  • where are the chills that should come from phrases like "Risparmia lor piu' lunghi pianti ancor"?...

Bad imitation with a potato in her mouth

  • I was in the audience for this performance. I was very impressed by Sass, from the moment she came onto the stage with her red veil covering her face menacingly. I thought then and still do think that she sang well and made a stunning Medea. To everyone who, like me, worships Callas: if we compare everyone who sings this part reflexibly and negatively to her, the opera will never be performed. Let Sass be Sass, not Callas. The work is what counts, ultimately.

  • Agreed. Let Sass be Sass.

  • I am nuts about Callas, love Medea, but Sass does a very good job.. She has a very dramatic voice and instincts for this stuff.

  • Powerful, expressive and beautiful voice : Sass is a great singer, obviously...

  • I saw her in Gluck's Alceste in the early 80's. She was a magnificent singing actress.

  • she is quite good - but once you have heard these pieces sung by Callas.....Nothing else will do.

  • I agree, there aint nobody else but Callas as Medea. Wish I still had my old LP's of her with Scotto as Glauce and Picchi as Gisaone. Have CD but it's a pretty ropey oldlive recording. The studio version was far superior.

  • With that attitude it would not be anyone else either.

  • Sass...la piú brava!!!!!!!!

  • Perfect!!!

    I Love the Opera Medea!!!

    Brava Sass!!!

  • This is very good! I would like to see her on stage! She´s not a Callas, but close!

  • here she doesn't have chest voice, she is afraid of high notes, she doesn't sing all the notes in the final "Furie" invocation...

    This is not Medea.

Great intentions, but very mediocre results.

    Pity.

  • Intense!

  • She was born in 1951 so is quite young here, for a dramatic soprano.

  • Great clip. I didn't know she was so good so late (the CD is from 1978). What's so interesting about Sass is that her voice reminds me of cool singers such as Sutherland and Anderson, but her demeanor reminds me of great singing actresses. Thank you for posting.

  • I made myself the same reflexion : I didn't know she had been so good so further on in her career. Simply hieratic and impressive !
