One of Australias Pioneer rockers, not necessarily the most talented or handsome, but with the get up and go that holds lesser people back. His unique style and qualities, fighting spirit to have a go because we were as good as and better than what was being played on the airwaves or brought in concert to our shores. He was Australias wild one J.O.K.
You say "Popular Aussie Singer 60's" if it wasn't for Johnny O'Keffe there would not be a music industry in Australia. Johnny is the KING. and he can sing a bit.
Hopefully MY autobiography Twice as Hard will soon be published and the REAL story about King & I is explained on pages 24 to 37. Please wait until then before you judge me.
I vividly remember playing this song when I started out as a DJ at 2VM Moree, a long way from home and my friends. Years later at Channel 10 I was in the studio to see Johnny's last televsion performance as a guest on Young Talent Time. He was sitting on a stool and Johnny Young supporting him as he mimed Counting on You. Two days later the Wild One was dead. Thanks so much for posting this video. This is how I will remember him.
Thanks for posting this - any JOK fans out there know of a song called Steady Game or Ready for the Steady Game - I heard it in about 1964 and havent been able to track it.
Great song and clip. I remember seeing another clip on video hits (classic) he did of this song where he kept turning towards the camera at the start of each line. Good clip also.
