  • @wwarehousee One reason why I also own eattheweed as well.

  • I am learning what I most need to learn.

    Thanks Green Dean. You're keen!;)

  • Hey, I have been looking on online for weeds that are in Georgia. If I take a picture, can you tell me what the plant is?

  • @firebrandsgirl Sure, if I know it.

  • This is not a comment on this video, but a comment on why you haven't done any knew videos for awhile. Please do one on something like Yarrow or Purslane or something. Thank you

  • Thanks for writing. I've done a video on purslane. Yarrow doesn't grow here and even though this is Florida many edibles die back this time of year. I do have three I can work on but I am waiting for the plants to cooperate. I can't do videos when there aren't edible plants. The next ones will likely be pyrachatna II, palms, then hollies. I've also been doing a lot of foraging classes as the season wraps up. But I do have more in the works.

  • can't wait for your next video :) we're just getting into winter and im already ready for spring again.

  • oh how i miss your videos, green deane. when's the next one due out?

  • I'm working on two. Season is an issue.

  • Thank you for letting us know! I was getting more than just curious. Thank you for all that you do. Your a great teacher and I rate you with most of the greatest of memorable faces. Its better than tv and really reminds me of the feeling you get from watching old time quality television. I love what you do with your videos.

  • Green Deane,

When you say "locally," what area are you referring to?

    ~Peter

  • Two vines found in the southeastern U.S., bitter gourd and maypop.

  • Deane? Is this related to Asafoetida? The Indian spice? And/or could it be used in place of it in recipes? You said that uncooked its a condiment...

  • There is no relation between the two plants. When I said it is used as a condiment, its more along the lines of how a scallion is used (though the flavor is very different than a scallion.)

  • amazing .....great vid

  • Thanks, always trying to make them better, some times I do, and some times I don't.

  • are they in ontario canada

  • No, that's too far north.

  • Thanks I've has this growing in my back yard for a while and never knew what to do with it

  • Hold your nose and enjoy....

  • Great work! You really outdone yourself this time!

  • Thank you.... finding a portable toilet I could borrow wasn't easy, and then I had to use it early Sunday morning... and I forgot to close the door and move the occupied sign over.

  • Fun video Deane--nice job!

  • Thanks.... the suit was a bit overboard but ... got to do stuff different now and then.... the only irritation was I grabbed the wrong suit!

  • LOL please don't take this in the wrong way but is skunk vine any relation to "skunk weed"? As in Cannabis? Not that I would know anything about it.

  • No problem, actually it's related to coffee.... the problem I have with coffee is that it can smell fantastic and taste awful.

  • So you will not see it up here in the NYC area?

  • No, though it can live in flower pots and the like,

  • Able to stop a cnidoscolus with his bare hands

  • Knowledge is power, and you thus are a powerful person in my eyes. Thanks. :-)

  • Able to leap tall plants in a single bound... (wow, that dates me....the old Superman introduction....)

  • Faster than a speeding honey bee

  • Did you just add salt and vinegar to boiled greens! Nice. You are indeed in the South, where that kind of thing is acceptable. I find people look at you like an alien creature if you do that out here in California. I love turnip greens boiled down with salt and vinegar. Love them!

    Great video, again.

  • Yep, salt and vinegar and pepper... but it was balsamic vinegar so that might save me some face in Calirofnia.

  • Passiflora sure does stink!

  • Thanks Deane... I wasn't sure I liked these videos all that much (I'm at 7,000 foot elevation, so we don't have TOO many of the plants you've been speaking about) until I didn't get one for a while!

Thanks for taking the time to fill them up with information!

  • Thanks. 7,000 foot where? The majority of the plants I do are found even in Canada. More so, learning about other plants still hones ones skills and you never know when you will be in that area. As for schedule and new videos... seasons and plants kind of dictate that...

  • the music at @2:20ish is the same used in the Steve Spangler Science vids xD It's probably public domain or something.. just funny to me since I watch both channels obviously.. great vid as always.

  • It comes packaged with MAC Imovie, rights paid for in the purchase price.

  • WOW... 105 videos... Grats man...

  • Missed you Green Dean

  • Much appreciated... having to find good edible to feature.

  • You talked about the vine growing from lower right to upper left. I don't know if you've ever heard of this, but when talking about twisted rope we call that "S" laid rope. The other direction is "Z" laid rope. (look at the shape of the middle line of each letter). I don't know if you'd find those terms useful or not.

  • Yes I do. Thanks a lot! I'll use them in the future. You in the merchant marine?

  • nah, I just like knots.

  • Good to see another vid from you deane.

  • Haven't been keeping up but love all your changes, better sound quality and creativity you've added. I personally don't think bitter gourds smell bad at all. I like their scent and didn't even know passion vines smelled bad. So this plant probably will register as no smell for me as well. Now a direct link to your articles in the description would be wonderful.

  • The gourds don't smell bad but the leaves do... I've been trying to smooth out the sound... and add more scenes ... As for direct links, I've tried to put them in but when I do You Tube somehow deletes them.

  • There is no reason for it do delete them. Look at the description of this video for example fjcNKFryAA8

It's simple. Just copy and paste the link from your page and include the h t t p in there as well. I can send you a PM and you can see what I mean.

  • Yes, I know... but for a year now it has not been possible. Every time I do it, it gets erased. I'n not sure why and I"ve just kind of ignored it like a wart.

  • I love the inserts with the nutritional information and then the historical information. They are a definitely plus. 5 *'s VERY well deserved!

  • Again, thanks... I'm trying to put more of them in.

  • Five Stars!!

  • Thanks for tolerating my wanderings....
