OMG discharge!! My dad is the lead guitarist ! andy green, or mouse as he was called! Only the other day when we were clearing out the loft together i found his ponytail that he had kept in a bag, now hes a skin head and works in an office, and we live in a 3 bed! they were offered to play with metallica but the singer refused and thats why dads getting up at 6 every day And i only just found out about all of this properly ! im so impressed with what they did wish he was still playing now!
props to you and your pops..I'm sure he had plenty of oppurtunity in his time to become a sell out rock star, but raising you and staying with family was more important...I loved Discharge back in the mid 80s as a punk rock mowhawk kid..I'm just glad bands like Rancid have carried on the true spirit of punk. So much overproduced sugar coated mindless garbage that's passed out through the record industry's lower intestine that is considered good music these days....
this sounds pretty punk to me, but i just cant rock the vocals yall. it throws the rest away. thats my opinion tho, however my taste goes from metallicA, SOAD, Dethklok, KoRn, to Cake, Live, candlebox, and RHCP. but for ME personally, i dont like anything ive heard by discharge mainly cause the vocals. but ive also only heard a few of their songs so i cant say altogether i dont like them, however, MetallicAs Free Speech is alot better to me.
this is a fucking shame.......i had just left school when the fight back ep came out...now all the yrs later discharge have turned into this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The best statement I've read about this issue....The fact is people invent a lot of terms, names, trends, and styles, but Discharge was ahead of the time in the 1980's ... 25 years later, things changed, including the band....!
discharge is the king of hardcore for a reason. asking alexandria if shes a whore is shit compared to discharge cause this is what hadrcore is supposed to sound like. NOT tuning your guitars low with gutteral vocals cause thats ripping off death metal
This is so funny to watch. They were an awesome Punk band but really shit when they tried to do a DRI type thrash thing.....but with the same songs. Glad to see that somebody had the sense to tell them as they are Punk again.
metal is a spiritual thing?...punk is more day to day issues?....everybody stfu, stop pretending u know what ur talking about and listen to cal sing like a woman....
@fourshadesofgreen if Cal hadn't had the daft idea of singing like a castrated cat, selling out to become some third rate metal band, stuck to the raw, energetic and original D Beat punk yes the vast majority would have been happy. This is dross, you can't compare it to the punk period.Original band where embarrased by this whole period (read Glaspers book). Punk to me was all about challenging ideas, the whole movement was abrasive, confrontational.Metal is shallow and corporate in comparison.
@cloverleaf164166 Saying Metal is shallow and corporate in comparison to punk is about as ignorant as a metalhead thinking punk music is shitty noise.
@ThazuaBlackarrow maybe, maybe not. Punk began as a social/political movement and some might argue the apex was reached with the anarchopunk bands - crass/conflict etc.I have never heard a metal band speak so forcefully or eloquently, the point is the whole movement was/is trying to make a statement about the people and organisations that shape our lives.I just don't see that Metal stands for that, it's probably a good thing, the world would be a boring place if all music had the same message!
@cloverleaf164166 Metal is more of a spiritual thing, dealing with shit larger than life where punk is more day to day issues. They both excel on different playing fields.
No thanks, but don't get me wrong... Discharge are obviously talented muscians. It's just that I don't find them creative enough.... for all their raw talent.
I know if I listened to them again and again, it might get additive.... I think my sister had their earlier stuff
Y'all are idiots this song actually is a punk song it came out before they became metal or tried to be. Look at the other never again vid live with the classic lineup. This one is shit the other one is fucking dope
You know what? I'm really fucking tired of going on discharge videos and seeing braindead retards insulting Metal, I'm both a Metal and Punk fan and have been for years, all you fucking little turds picking alliances are nothing more than filthy little posers trying to find a scene to fit into.
Fuck all of you. Go dye your fucking hair, and spike it up, be as anti-corporatism as you want, just remember something, at the end of the day you're a snotnosed little brat buying hair products.
Sned! stop watching this!... Cal singing 'Never Again' through the guitarists legs is pretty amazing tho' mate, really brings the songs message home (yeah right!) Coots
I like both Grave New World and Hear Nothing...etc and I treat them both like different bands. Besides Disensitise and Societies Criminal...etc are both fine recordings as well. Never liked Shooting Up The World much, too doom laden. On the whole a band which takes in a lot of influences and influenced so much more. WOuld love to see Cal with them one more time
how the fuck are people on here talking shit on a pioneering band, saying what their sound is "supposed" to be. did they ever say they were trying to sound like a desert or bombed out building? they're supposed to sound like the band they are in whatever form they want to be. yeah i don't like this as much but it's not about what any of us want them to be. hail discharge, broken bones... whatever. it's all awesome.
Sonically this sounds fine, however if you’re going to have guitarist that looks like John Sykes, you better make sure that he can play like him. I believe this is Andy Green on guitar & he’s flat out wretched. Both his guitar tone & leads reeks. Having said that, I rather see this line up perform than the current one. I saw Discharge during their 05 US tour & they were fuckin’ brutal, I even bought the tour edition CD which was worse. This is 11 years after Decontrol & people change! BFD!!
I remember hearing in the mid 80's that Cal, the singer, was attacked and castrated by ultra right wing goons representing The National Front. He refused to take hormones so his voice went way up. Even so, Discharge ceased being Discharge as we knew them after 1984. Too bad.
@ChaosGnek, Did you ever hear their 1986 album "Grave New World" ? Cal sounds like a mouse on helium. Listen to him in this video. Sure doesn't sound like he did in 1982. Not even close. I'm not saying the castration story is true. In fact, I've never been able to confirm it, but I heard the story often in the mid 80's, and on the next album "Grave New World", he sounded like a freak. From 1982 to 1984, Discharge were fucking great.
Fair points about crossover, metal influences etc, but this song works best as a horrendous violent rush that grabs you by the throat and shakes you mercilessly until you promise not to like war.
By playing big venues and singing instead of barking they lose their subtle lack of subtelty.
They only had a couple of musical ideas, but they were damn good ones, and when they started farting about they lost a lot of their power. Cool that they experimented, pity it didn't turn out too great.
@groinhat exactly, man. d-beat is supposed to have a real doomy, chaotic, post-appocalyptic feel. the sound of it is supposed to describe a world turned into an endless expanse of desert and bombed-out cities from international nuclear war. it's not really supposed to sound polished... which this does...
i also think it's cool how discharge added and experimented with different elements of metal. but, cal just took it too far... he forgot where they came from...
well, i do not think that this is really bad. i think his voice is ok. only the stage is a little to huge ^^ to me, there always was a little touch of metal in the music of discharge, wasn't it?
Well knock me down with a feather! Much better in the late 70's early 80's.I've seen them play at least 6 time's but then again I was pissed most of the time, so I apologise for not reconising cal! With his long hair!!.
Weak as piss and fucking awful vocals! I grew up with Discharge ( the band not a medical condition!) and I was so fucking pissed off at this metal thing they went through.
I'm not against metal, there are some great bands out there but for fucks sake! Discharge were never meant to be fucking metal!!!!
I actually enjoy all eras of Discharge. They had a pretty metallic sound even back in the beginning. A lot of bands did this in the mid to late 80's. Trying the Crossover/Grind sound. This era they sound much like DRI/Nuclear Assault. I understand how you feel though. GANG GREEN and SSD, should never have gone METAL, but it is the artists choice. How long can you keep sounding like LP friggin ONE.
@RomliIronfist Well when you really think about it what is considered 'metal' today has been ripped off from the hardcore punk sound from the early 80s. Heavy Metal was so bankrupt with it's sound and relevancy that bands had to latch and steal from the local punk rock scene from the early 80s. A lot of people into metal today have no idea that this is the case.
@RomliIronfist they are great! did you know ratos de porão? hardcore band from brazil, they go to the same way, some trash metal influence, but they still punks!

@RomliIronfist
