Not all lyrics have to be taken literally, nor do they have to be about personal experience. Also, it doesn't make the songwriter(s) "emo" if they just had a bad day and felt like writing something really dark. I'm not saying that you're wrong, but there's a possibility that this album (yes, the whole album, since all the songs are rather depressing) may be about a fictional depressed person, or a friend.

For example, Dream Theater's 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence is a 6-part song that deals with variety of different mental disorders, some of which are told from first-person perspective. However, none of the band members has any issues. The disorders is just the theme of the album, and it's message is for people to understand individuals who suffer from such disorders.

Also, even songwriters who actually are depressed don't necessarily write depressing songs. For example, the guitarist/songwriter of Stratovarius who has bipolar disorder wrote only one dark album, while all the later ones had very positive messages.

I want to give you 100 thumbs up for that comment. I personally hate COB, since I'm not a fan of growling vocals, but I really love Alexi's guitar solos and riffs. I'm also a huge power metal fan, so Sinergy is a very good band for me. All those COB fans who don't like more melodic singing should just fuck off. Sinergy is power metal, not freaking death metal.

In answer to commanderg7650, Children of Bodom originally came about in 1997 and Sinergy had their first album release in '99.

I think Sinergy did about four albums before Bodom started to get really big. It's a shame Sinergy don't do much anymore. I would have loved to see them live.
