I like her interpretation better. She is an American woman. She polishes what males write. She has matured greatly as a musician. led Zep would not have promoted her and her sister then left them out to dry would they have?
By the way, where I come from, women are better musciaans than males.lOOK at the battles she is faced with vs. a male in a male dominated society.
Last summer I went to see Heart. Maybe it's a chick style thing or maybe it's a singer thing but SHE BLEW THE LID OFF THE PLACE singing this song!!!!! it's a FABULOUS interpretation with just the right Heart instrumental flavors, some quirky, unexpected sounds and of course THAT VOICE... There are an awful lot of covers that don't work well but this isn't one of them.
I LOVE THIS VERSION. Reminds me of The Beatles. What a great Artist you are Ann. I love you. You give me goosebumps every time. I'll be adopting your version for sure...THANKS......

The Ann Wilson solo album is one of the worst albums ever made. All remakes , loaded with guest star duets. This cover version is a sample of how bad it is.
Insane...what a great cover...what makes a great cover is one playing it right, then playing it YOUR way and making it YOURS...and she does all that perfect with Nancy
how fateful , and yet, how masterful .... o´ye .... sons of the Gods ... those with might roar and fierce to strike upon alongside the thrash rage of golden the tracks of yesterdays himns ....
""Anything Ann Wilson does is better than Led Zep ""
I'm sure Ann wouldn't agree with you. Zeppelin are her biggest influence. Ann Wilson is wonderful but nobody can say she is 'better' than Zep. Even Ann would laugh at you for that.
When bands choose to cover songs, I don't think they strive to "copy" the original song flawlessly. I don't think any band out there covers a truly amazing song with the hopes to perfect or master it. I'm assuming they want to change it up a bit for the sake of innovation.
Making a similar-yet-different version of a piece is like a band paying homage to another band...
So, even though it doesn't mold perfectly with the original, this is a very, very good cover.

This is horrible because it sounds nothing like the original song. Have you ever heard the Original? Like come on, this is really bad. Theres nothing wrong with changing parts to a song when you are doing a cover but this is too much. I like Heart there a great band but this has to be there worst song (in this case cover song).
Master, I think the idea was to revive the song. If she kept it original it would have been dated. Her singing is true to the original... and the production is trying to incorporate the sounds of now.... high compresson on the vox..and short reverb, the guitars in back and squished with compression..it puts her vox on top and though LOVE Zepplin, you could never hear his vox over the guitars. The remake is contempory and keeping true to spirirt of song. no DJ would play this or old way even now.
I want to see Ann and Heart sing a cover of Dazed and Confused.
Please Wilson sisters?
I didn't even know she'd already done a cover of Led Zep, but I thought that if anyone could match Plant's range, style, and power, it had to be Ann Wilson!
This is good. Very twisty, if one knows the song, this version takes some turns that one doesn't expect. Several good (unexpected) chord substitutions. It's a good song, good remake, and it still stands on it's own.
I'll bet Plant & Page were flattered the way Annie did their song. If she were only to copy the original, what would be the point? She could sing the phone book and I wouldn't care.
I'm liking Ann's version better the more and more I hear it! Why? Well, #1 I can actually understand the words and 2) the pacing. It's still hard rock, but you get a better sense of what the impending apprehension was felt when the Vikings encroached on all those lands. I like how in this interpretation Ann Wilson turns the concept of "cock rock" on it's "head" as it were. Ann's version is a great demonstration of the female power in Rock.
Now I'll admit I prefer the Led Zeppelin version, but this is a very interesting interpretation. It is clearly feminine voiced but definitely NOT 'girly.' or prissy. Besides, there were women Viking warriors .The Viking Sagas and Saxo Grammaticus' "History of the Danes" mention many warrior women, and an English Saxon Princess led an invasion of Jutland in the 6th Century.
but i dont reali like this version. As i already said.. Ann & Nancy version together sounded sooooo much better. But this ones not bad. LOVE YOU ANN <3333333333333333
i LOVED this song better when Ann & Nancy sung this together. The part where they go ... UHHAAAHHH .. is amazing. i saw them in concert when they did this song n they did it jus like Zep but Anns voice was so much more powerful and with Nancys voice n their harmonies BLEW me AWAY! ESP the Uhhaaaahhh part. lol it was SOOO powerful. i cudnt even handle it! haha <3 i FUCKIN LOVE Heart <33333333333333333
Estrogen? I understand your words, but not your logic. If you're implying that she made the song sound "girly" or "feminine"...well, I'll have to disagree with you.
Yeah. I think you do understand my logic, though you disagree with it. I feel like she took a song with very masculine themes and feminized it, and it's not to say that women cannot be talented musicians (because there are just as many great female musicians as there are male).
I just feel that the song has very clear themes based in the style that it's originally performed in, and those themes are eliminated by covering the song like this.
I'm not lying. I still don't understand where you're coming from. If you mean that the song is "feminine" because of the tone of her voice, or her vocal style, that's not really a legitimate complaint. If a woman sings a song, she's going to (in pitch and tone) sound like a woman. Must a singer have a "masculine" voice to portray "masculine" themes?
As somewhat of a feminist and an Ann-fan, I predict a spat coming on...
I don't want to be disrespectful, so I'm goin to drop the subject ._.
Oh no, I didn't mean to say you lied. I'm not trying to offend you, and I apologize for that.
The vocals are not the problem. It's the speed of the song, the instruments chosen, and the overall "calm" sound of the song. It's not visceral and loud like the original, and that is what bothers me.
I'll put it this way:
Immigrant Song in its original form was "harder" than Barracuda, but Barracuda was still a very hard rock track. It had some awesome riffs. This is not at all like that - it's soft.
I've always loved the Wilson sisters. When I listened to this the first time, I thought."This is soo wrong! Not rowdy enough!!!" That's 'cause I got Zep's DVD and disc 2 of that starts out with "The Immigrant Song" pasted together with assorted concert footage and audio from '74 and it kicks ass!!. But watching Anne sing this makes me appreciate what Plant did in his prime.
The more I listen to Anne's version, the more I like it.
i love ann wilson, but you can't compare to her to robert plants vocals. his range is ridiculous and his sound is classic. she's probably the closet though :)
Wow, the original doesn't really sound that good after listening to this, does it?

it's not ann's voice that ruins this cd it's the dumbed downed freaks she keeps employing out of sympathy who like negro delta blues and grunge.
she is only hurting herself by bothering with these throwbacks.

This is supposed to be a song about VIKINGS JOURNEYING TO DESTROY A VILLAGE.
Ann Wilson injected this song with so much estrogen it sounds like the opening of a daytime TV drama or a Folger's commercial.
It's disgusting that she soiled such an awesome song like this.
