Does the unemployment rate depend directly on the number of jobs or must you figure in the number of persons who are not attempting to gain employment, cannot because of requirements like criminal background, illegal drug use, etc.
Taxing the rich won't help either, don't know were people get the robin hood mentality, steal from the rich and give to the poor, that's communism and we know that didn't work. The rich will always find ways to move their assets, and actually many of America's rich have been moving out of this country to avoid the heat that's coming their way. Heck, all Americans should march on hollywood and take back some of the money the actors make, million per a movie, outrageous ticket prices.
If our government quit over taxing companies and didn't over regulate them, the businesses wouldn't leave the US. If we didn't rely on all our goods coming from other countries and did our own thing we would have jobs......we've outsourced ourselves....people need to realize government is the problem, starting from the president down....

No! Drug testing for any recipients of benefits from local, state or federal agencies should never have ventured into the law. If they do,then we must share that rule from the President down to the woman/man on the street. Until then,I am with the ACLU- that's new for me.

@Mrepifany i bet 75 percent of all atlantans use drugs. i bet its like that in most the us. the italian politicians all tested positive for drugs at more the seventy five percent. when they were swabed by people poseing as a camera crew putting make up on them. did they loose the jobs?
Yes they should drug test them... I work in social services here in Atlanta, and I know for a fact MOST of my clients that are on welfare (75%) use some sort of drug or alcohol.
Regarding Detroit and welfare. Seems the idea is to get people to leave the state. Not only does the state save on welfare payments but the dealers have fewer customers, and the EMS system has a reduced load. Less need for buses and fewer police calls. Cold blooded but effective. Now, what happens to the neighboring states?
Thy should stop sending the EBT cards in the mail. They should make people pick them up in person at the welfare office so the whole world can see who comes and goes. And at the front door of the welfare office there should be a drug dog. If he sniffs something suspicious then do the drug test. It should weed some people out without having the expense of testing everyone so often.

I'm in FL and yeah there are A LOT of people out of work here, and no new jobs being created.
As for the drug testing for food stamps thing you have to also take in to consideration they set it up so if you have children, you can sign over to someone else to pick up your stamps for you if you feel you are going to fail the drug test, and also you have to consider how many people just flat out didn't pick up their stamps because they didn't wanna take the test.
they didn't try to stop traffic they were instructed to head towards the bridge then they let media take pictures and video of them in the middle of the bridge after the cops didn't let them leave it was all a setup and the 700 arrests were brought thanks to the 4.6million dollar "donation" by JPMorgan
The welfare thing doesnt make sense since Clinton changed welfare so no one could receive cash benefits for more than 36 months...these people should have lost their cash after receiving it for 3 years.
I get drug tested every time i go to a new job assignment, just as a matter of routine. I think drugs should be decriminalized, so im ambivalent about drug testing to get benefits. Lots of people who work also smoke pot. This is like saying even though you worked and were productive, now you must starve. But that "disabled" lazy cousin of yours can draw a welfare check because she knows how ot work the system? I haven't made up my mind.
i guess they ahve to limit welfare ESPECIALLY in a bad economy because A) fewer people to pay for it B) make room for the newly unemployed so there can be some resources left for them...
1,500 children with no food to eat and possibly no place to live. We cannot keep doing this, America. There is enough land in this country to open farming co-ops to feed Ameicans. Why doesn't congress pass a law to help the starvation of our population? Instead banks take farms away from family's. This is exactly why I went to Liberty Plaza yesterday and protested Wall St, because the madness has to stop.
starve the kids, and feed the rich cavier.think about how those pig politians eat.they throw away more food than i eat.take away benefits that people have had for decades is inhumane IMO.
end result the crime rate in those areas will soar no doubt.so sad!!!!
I have suspected for decades that all the misuse of the services. Would mean they would not be there when people were truly in need. This is happening. We all know the story. Skimming and misuse through the entire system. Now it is gone. It wouldn't occur to me to steal to feed myself or children. Band together not apart. Make stone soup. The brain needs exercising daily. 24 hours a day. It is the most important part of your body. It is in control. Keep it active.
The unemployment rate number is taken from those applying for the 1st time and those still receiving it, it does not show the number of people who's benefits have run out or those who are not seeking jobs through the State employment services, the actual number of unemployed in the US is Approx 23%
@ DEMCAD I think testing welfare recipients is just another way to target a demographic and use it to the detriment of the people. Like with anything statistical, once data is collected the information can be used to target a certain group. Who knows- maybe cartels will know exactly where to send there products and the government can recollect there welfare via drug use.
I agree with limiting lifetime benefits but there is also the problem of as it's a state law, there is nothing to prevent welfare recipients from moving to another state and being a ward of the state there.
I disagree with protesting a vague concept like "wall street". The problem is not companies like Coke or McDonalds, the real problem is crippling taxation, government regulation, and lawless banks that created these primarily financial derivatives and bubbles.
The CIA owns google, google owns both youtube and facebook. Occupy wall st was organized on facebook and the only media covering it seems to be on youtube. anyone else find that suspicious?
Great point, people who have the foodstamps don't always have the common sense to face up to their genuine plight. they spend like rich people - so called, as a means of denial. sad
Demcad,I think this where the collapse is gonna begin.? Welfare...Who else are you gonna take it from?We have passed the tipping point in my opinion more people are taking out than are putting in.When the sconomy was strong the goverment didn't care and added to budgets but now the economy is weak and its got to come from somwhere? The drug testing thing if i have to take one to keep my job and then maybe people need to take one to keep any benefits. What about my kids? then don't have them.lol
Seriously... what are those people supposed to do? There are no jobs and they will resort to the only thing they can to survive, crime! I see another Detroit riot on the horizon... and they have every right. We should be closing tax loopholes for the rich so they at least pay their share. We could use that money to help the poor. I recommend everyone that is effected by this attend your local occupy wallstreet and let your voice be heard.
@DEMCAD It is in my opinion a deliberate move to make the protests turn into a mess. That welfare cash pays at very least, their rent, tobacco, gasoline... last week Obama reportedly said, Americans had gone soft - This kind of mean minded commentary is social engineering taunting...aggravation. It's time to pray hard for our brothers & sisters that they will be protected from the worst mistakes... pray for safe passage out of the city, provision & help.
If you like Michigan's welfare cut off law, check out Washington State's new Emergency Room law signed recently by their Democratic Governor. The list of things that will no longer be covered as "Emergencies" include a laundry list of life threatening ailments that could potentially, and in many cases definately will result in the deaths of those suffering from them. You can find the list in a news article by KXLY TV station in Spokane
I guess Facebook realize what they were doing and decided to let people on Facebook see what comments and what they liked on Facebook and other activites their friends were doing on Facebook. It's now impossible to hide information or activites from other Facebook friends.
just watch and see what happens on monday when the welfare checks dont come in to the 41000 that just got cut now the people will be going to churches that they have never even been to begging for help and the city halls will be over taken with people that need the rent paid so the state might not be paying out the money but in the mean time the cities and local churches will be hit up hard
I love your ending quote and have used it a few times when explaining this stuff to my friends and family. They are ending welfare (as mythicist said) to create enough crime and chaos to suspend elections in 2012.. especially considering how much ron paul is coming up fast. I expect to see more benefits to be cut in the near future to push crime and rioting over the edge so Martial Law can be declaired..
how long can we fight a bunch of wars, raise the debt ceiling AND keep people on the govt t*t ?!? SHTF is sounding closer than ever. i'm in a major city with pan handlers everywhere, people living under bridges, bank robbing increasing and i'm actually attempting to move and work further out soon. wish me luck. also seeking bug out/wrol land.
Just a quick note concerning bank fees. A number of years ago the banks made a push to make it impossible for folks to join credit unions (notoriously low for fees they inflict on people) unless they had a direct link to the institution. For example, as the relative of a teacher I could join the teacher's credit union but if the banks get their way, then I'm compelled to go to them if my employer doesn't have it's own credit union.
That many people being kicked off welfare is going to be a local shtf for you there in Michigan Reginald. Get ready to bug out to a state in better shape like... um... um... well... um... Switzerland :P BTW I thought the peeping tom scene at the end was hilarious.
Reggie, alot of these protestors want a totalitarian goverment(total statis) and want Obama re-elected without an election. Their cause may appear to be good but deep down it really isn't
DEMCAD, that peeping thru the window part just slayed me. Only they could get away with peeping and not go to jail or get fined. But then again didn't their CEO say something to the effect that you have no right to privacy on Facebook? It was a statement he made a couple years back, can't recall the exact quote.
@DEMCAD I agree... they can't live off the system forever, but in the current economy would you agree that the crime rate will increase in the specific areas mentioned?
do you think that it matters what we do to the banks? even if we take all of our money out, the government would just refill their vaults with our money.
do you think that it matters what we do to the banks? even if we take all of our money out, the government would just refill their vaults with our money.
Crime is most likely going to skyrocket when welfare benefits stop coming. My heart goes out to the children that will suffer and the people that want jobs and can't find one.
Idk if i'm for or against drug testing for benefits but here are a few observations. You say it costs to drug test people, but how much does it cost to give out free money? Then, you say they only caught 2.5% of the people but you didn't say if there was a drop in the # of people applying for benefits. This would show if the drug users even bothered applying. There will always be ways around the drug tests. The small percentage that would be caught or deterred is such a small drop in the bucket.

@DEMCAD, the protesters did not "attempt to stop traffic." I'm tired of the misinformation. I watched it live. They were diverted there by the police and then boxed in. They were told to leave or they would be arrested, except they couldn't. That is why they were shouting, "Let us out!" They were trapped. A child was arrested for God's sake! The police say they were "unruly." That's a lie. They were reacting to being duped.
@countryjoke "They walked in thick rows on the sidewalk up to the bridge, where some demonstrators spilled onto the roadway after being told to stay on the pedestrian pathway, police said. " But that's the cops side of it.
LMAO Demcad you crazy. one of your best vids lol i like the addition of humor. As for your question, YES test the people on welfare! I hate that my tax dollars pay for their meth addiction! I would rather pay for a drug testing center which creates jobs, than pay for a fat slut to keep popping out babies and buying her boyfriends meth.
Ignore them, no. As for starting somewhere, I've found that most people take the path of least resistance when it comes to the perceived opposition, because it's a start. I say be a true hunter and go for the big game. If you start at the top then you are setting a true precedent. Remember, those social programs are a sign of our prosperity as a country. Keep doing away with them and hello Third World. But, I'm sure you understand all that.
About time! The government owes us nothing and we had better get use to it for most if not all states will follow Michigan's lead. O K now what do we do for jobs; mow lawns, shovel snow, baby sit, odd jobs, turn hobby in to money maker, trades, etc.! Help someone with your skill set and feel a sense of personal accomplishment, you betcha! A crook or a lie are soon found out.
My Grandmother supported 5 children thru the Great Depression by cleaning hotel rooms. She never took a dime of the taxpayer’s money because it would have been a disgrace and would have brought shame on her and her family. I never hear her cry or complain about any of her hardships. All her children became prosperous hard working taxpayers because she taught them self-reliance.
ALL welfare recipients (beneficiaries) have become Federalized Persons (US Citizens); the Federal government may dictate and tax their employees, under CODE and ACTS.
I got the Sunday paper today (I live in Florida) and no jobs in the want ad's except crap..luckily I have a full-time job now but we were just bought out by another company..so if I get laidoff again i plan on moving back to Chicago b/c the market here is dry and dead....
Seems like there is a war against the poor the top dogs wanna play watch dogs -once a man is crippled and starving he will do almost anything to change that educate yourself or get in line -
These wall street protesters are nothimg more than monkey see monkey do hypocrites, in which half of them don't even know why they're there. The same old nonsense spewing from their mouths, " end capitalism", but buy and use the very products they love to hate.
As far as the occupy wall st is concerned, they're arresting the wrong people. The crooks are inside the buildings, not outside. Police are nothing more than the muscle for the crooks inside those buildings. smmfh
WOW. When u say info was downloaded, are you speaking about keystrokes outside of fb as well as on the page? Or more than that like private files on your pc? How deep do they go and what kinds of precautions are being taken to actually confirm that they do not continue? It may be less headache for me to just cancel it. I'll do twitter and youtube until they slip up the same. smmfh...
WAKE UP AMERICA! The Republicans are going to KEEP GOING AFTER people's benefits, people's food stamps, and people's social security. Republicans made sure to save the BANKS, because the plight of banks worries them more than the plight of ordinary Americans struggling to survive.
@JonPaulPrime that ok they'll vote back in a republic again after look at the house they did it their. The fact is the dems suck just as bad down with them both.
@JonPaulPrime It's not limited to Republicans, Democrats are doing the same thing. If I recall, Obama was the one that saved the banks during his bailout blowout.
@Gallimaestro technically he didn't, Bush did it at the request of Obama. There was a post shoe-dodging interview where Bush stated he would do it if Obama specifically asked him to.
@JonPaulPrime Who made it possible for the bailout to pass? I guess this is where one would say both parties are to blame. The only difference between them is one fucks you straight up and the other uses a condom.
@JonPaulPrime It is not about Republicans vs Democrats, they campaign differently, but when they get into office they govern the same. The Left - Right Paradigm is just a way to get us little people to fight amongst ourselves, distracting the masses from the real problems, like rising government spending, rising national debt and inflation, less jobs & stagnant economy because of government regulations, invasive new laws, perpetual wars . . . its not left vs right, its Freedom vs Tyranny.
@ArgosSmith2009 Wrong, the masses are not distracted from the real problems at all. Like the fact that so many don't have adequate health insurance, or the fact many of them are having their benefits cut off (and, on occasion, literally held hostage) by Republicans. The silly "freedom vs tyranny" rhetoric is often seized upon by Republicans to thwart progressive egalitarian reforms. The Right also tends to play the "freedom vs tyranny" card to demonize sensible wealth redistribution. Wake up.
@JonPaulPrime If you think that the democratic politicians in office are magically different than the republican politicians in office . . . that they aren't there for their own personal gain to acquire money, power, fame, and the fanatic praise of thousands of people, then I have nothing to say to you. . . except 'have a great life, may you find happiness and satisfaction, and good luck in your journeys of the inter-webs.'
@ArgosSmith2009 Regrettable you won't let go of your cynical view of politicians. Why does anyone choose *any* career path? (people interested in "personal gain, or acquiring money, or seeking praise" are all eeevil motives, according to *your* comment) Newflash: some people who run for office are already super rich and super famous. There's this other motivating factor called IDEOLOGY. Your claim, sir, that the Right and the Left share *precisely* the same ideology, is dishonest. Goodbye.
I live on the Space Coast of F-LA. Unemp has deffinately gone up here. They shut down the shuttle and the ripple effect is being felt tremendously. I am a Harbor Master, and the 25' to 45' range yachts are NOT moving. My wife runs a Marriot here and she says only Gov contracts are staying and Harris co and DynCorp> On the Drug testing issue. Rick Scott's wife owns the major drug testing co. and it only targets Weed smokers, do you really think one would snort or shoot before a test? So...F-LA!
@aquaimage13 yes just another place for the u.s. too fall behind lol biggest building nope dubi, fastest computer nope china, fastest train china, even cool building china has. oh i know what the u.s. has meanest military lol. Will just take though thing from the country or level em lol.
5 dollar monthly fee for using a debit card? wow that sux. iv never trusted banks which is why i keep my money in a credit union and i use mostly cash anyways.
Who ever said the government has to be "fair"? People living off state benefits for a year or more now need to have the umbilical cord cut, and I say this as a guy who went through six months of unemployment myself. People survived the Great Depression because they took care of business, and we need to get back to where we take personal responsibility for our situations instead of thinking we'll forever suckle on the government teat.
Drug testing of recipients is a huge waste of tax payer money...for the small percentage of folks that have been found to be users...i think it's around 3% if I remember correctly....and to the guy who suggested Drug Dealers don't take EBT cards...think again...Drug Dealers have to eat too....and EBT cards can be spent at Fast Food Chains and Restaurants....

Lots of people who work also smoke pot. This is like saying even though you worked and were productive, now you must starve. But that "disabled" lazy cousin of yours can draw a welfare check because she knows how ot work the system? I haven't made up my mind.
Plum369 4 months ago
i guess they ahve to limit welfare ESPECIALLY in a bad economy because A) fewer people to pay for it B) make room for the newly unemployed so there can be some resources left for them...

The unemployment rate number is taken from those applying for the 1st time and those still receiving it, it does not show the number of people who's benefits have run out or those who are not seeking jobs through the State employment services, the actual number of unemployed in the US is Approx 23%
edarotag84 4 months ago

The list of things that will no longer be covered as "Emergencies" include a laundry list of life threatening ailments that could potentially, and in many cases definately will result in the deaths of those suffering from them. You can find the list in a news article by KXLY TV station in Spokane

They are ending welfare (as mythicist said) to create enough crime and chaos to suspend elections in 2012.. especially considering how much ron paul is coming up fast. I expect to see more benefits to be cut in the near future to push crime and rioting over the edge so Martial Law can be declaired..

The only difference between them is one fucks you straight up and the other uses a condom.
warfossil 4 months ago
@JonPaulPrime It is not about Republicans vs Democrats, they campaign differently, but when they get into office they govern the same. The Left - Right Paradigm is just a way to get us little people to fight amongst ourselves, distracting the masses from the real problems, like rising government spending, rising national debt and inflation, less jobs & stagnant economy because of government regulations, invasive new laws, perpetual wars . . . its not left vs right, its Freedom vs Tyranny.
ArgosSmith2009 4 months ago
@ArgosSmith2009 Wrong, the masses are not distracted from the real problems at all. Like the fact that so many don't have adequate health insurance, or the fact many of them are having their benefits cut off (and, on occasion, literally held hostage) by Republicans. The silly "freedom vs tyranny" rhetoric is often seized upon by Republicans to thwart progressive egalitarian reforms. The Right also tends to play the "freedom vs tyranny" card to demonize sensible wealth redistribution. Wake up.
JonPaulPrime 4 months ago 2
@JonPaulPrime If you think that the democratic politicians in office are magically different than the republican politicians in office . . . that they aren't there for their own personal gain to acquire money, power, fame, and the fanatic praise of thousands of people, then I have nothing to say to you. . . except 'have a great life, may you find happiness and satisfaction, and good luck in your journeys of the inter-webs.'
ArgosSmith2009 4 months ago
@ArgosSmith2009 Regrettable you won't let go of your cynical view of politicians. Why does anyone choose *any* career path? (people interested in "personal gain, or acquiring money, or seeking praise" are all eeevil motives, according to *your* comment) Newflash: some people who run for office are already super rich and super famous. There's this other motivating factor called IDEOLOGY. Your claim, sir, that the Right and the Left share *precisely* the same ideology, is dishonest. Goodbye.

People living off state benefits for a year or more now need to have the umbilical cord cut, and I say this as a guy who went through six months of unemployment myself.
