I used to work in Buckingham Gate (Not the GATE, it's a road that runs through Victoria, I used to see this pretty much everyday, never get's boring and makes you feel very patriotic. This has to be done just for tourists. If an actual guard could take a terrorist or luny down with a huge fur thimble for a hat and a dueling sword, then props to him.
You should talk to your G. Uncle before stating then. The guns are ONLY loaded when the alert is as a threat state. Otherwise the guns remain unloaded because the guards don't actually defend the palace. If there is an intruder they notify the police on duty at the palace. So no need for ammo--with the exception of high alert situations.

You can try your luck on eBay. A good bearskin that is well kept, groomed, have no broken canes and in excellent condition can fetch anywhere up to a thousand dollars.
Bearskins with broken canes may cost about four hundred dollars.
The MoD spend about 900 acquiring the fur etc.

While I respect Great Britain, her history, and her traditions, as an American, I think that the changing of the guard at the tomb of the Unknowns is cooler. But like I said, Great Britain is an awesome country. Seriously, they controlled an empire larger than any other in history. While I think that the US has surpassed her, still, they settled us so you gotta give the UK some cred.

Its tradition mate, goes back to when the guards defeated Napoleons Imperial Guard at The Battle of Waterloo. They took the Imperial Guards bearskins as a final humiliation to a defeated enemy.

they aren't loaded. No guard has or wields an armed weapon. Same for american ceremony guards with the exception of the 21 gun salute.

You should talk to your G. Uncle before stating then. The guns are ONLY loaded when the alert is as a threat state. Otherwise the guns remain unloaded because the guards don't actually defend the palace. If there is an intruder they notify the police on duty at the palace. So no need for ammo--with the exception of high alert situations.

All rifles have live rounds in them, This is ceremonial and a show but they DO have live rounds always. My Cousin is an officer and I can confirm this. At all royal households in the UK they are armed.

As for voting pools etc. that's domestic politics, the stuff I do is international; foreign policy, diplomacy, warfare etc.

I've travelled to various places in the world, and I study Intl. Politics so know a lot more about the way the world works than you could ever aspire to; you can't even spell basic English words...
As for the Taleban, the US supported them through the 90's (encouraged oil investments, tolerated Pakistan/Saudi relations with them etc). The oppression never bothered them (they support plenty of other oppressive regimes worldwide), it's just an incentive to get the thick kids to fight them ;)

I still call Americans, Yanks. Also, learn some of your own history, mate. The Brits were thrashing the Colonials until France and other foreign powers came in and bailed your arses out with supplies, money, and troops.
Secondly, maybe learn some of our history before you go claiming that. There was a long period where 'the sun never set on the British Empire'. That was AFTER the American War of Independence. Losing the colonies was not that big of a loss. Learn some history, mate.

I suggest you re-learn your own history there, mate. We still dominated the war at this time but yes, you were finally managing to win a battle here and there. Washington's victory at Trenton was of course brilliant! But overall, the war was still in favour of the Brits.
You are welcome. :) I should add, however, that your rise came from arriving late in wars that we had been fighting out, mostly single-handedly.

Being not so much as a smear on a guardsmans boot, you wouldn't be asked to wear the uniform.You say 1700s, presumably because you don't know your own history well enough to name specific battles without first googling...In that particular campaign the guards fought and won many battles, albeit whilst losing a war. For info the uniforms you see actually mostly date from the 1800s, with the bearskins, for example, dating from 1815...a battle honour related to Waterloo...think before you post...

Its a well known fact that Britain falling to Nazi Germany would have been near impossible, being an island it meant Hitlers only method for invasion was a sea based assault this would have been difficult as Britain had one of the best Navies and Air Forces of the period, yet it was close, but we still kept the German forces back when we where outnumbered by their aircraft during the Battle of Britain. I also recall hitler attempting to strike a deal with both Chamberlain and Churchill.
