  • serbs=fascist cunts that should be wiped out

  • this author is my creative writing professor at ubc :)

  • This book uses a trite story--the precariousness of life during wartime--and is awfully written. It goes on about the same point endlessly and uses stuffy, romanticized language that will make you gag. Don't buy this book. If you want to read a book about the war-stricken lives of a few, read The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini instead.

  • @gaeazadriel

I know this comment is pretty late, but your completely wrong. I guess you don't understand how to enjoy art in it's purest form. Steven Galloway's book allows people who may not completely understand the workings of war a deeper insight into what it means and what the people facing it feel. His writing uses themes and a writing style you may not understand. And I would like to see you do better. By the way Khaled Hosseini wrote a great review for The Cellist of Sarajevo.

  • @channels23456789 khaled hosseini is a kuss madar, khar kuss... did you know that?

  • i think this is the best book ever....WAHLAU! makes me cry

  • I'm sure the true hero, Vedran, appreciates you waxing lyrical about the event which he LIVED. Stephen you behaved badly by stealing this man's legacy. Shame.

  • really an amazing book about the resiliency of the human spirit.

  • Just show me a one single sign of a culture in all bad things serbs did to bosnians. You have no culture, maybe you should start from this book.

  • have you really read this book? how could you think of it as a garbage propaganda!?

  • @L4SD4S WOW where did you get that information from, I am pretty sure that you did not live in Bosnia during the war and you are not a Bosnian yourself. Most likley a Serb who thinks that what happened in Bosnia was not bad, or didn't have anything wrong with it. So please refrain from making comments about thing's that you do not know about. Your story and justification of Serb's attack is plainly wrong and it is desrespectful to the Bosnian people around the world, and the victims of the war.

  • it's interesting how people use other people stories and names without asking them, and it's sure really interesting that the man who never was in sarajevo during the seige uses it to gain money...

  • @madamesyrin Exactly... I'm from Bosnia, and it's even more sad that there is no people here who could use similar stories to say something beyond nationalism, or cheap proclamation of personal "right" and "freedom", based upon the written laws. No one to speak about the laws beyond the written ones...

  • @madamesyrin the stories he took were the Cellist's story, some specific bombings like the one on the library and the people buying bread, and the war in general. The majority of the novel was created by him. The Characters Arrow, Kenan, and Dragan were created by him and are not based on anyone who was in the city during the war. He is using his writing to discuss the ideas people have on civilization, and human life, not tell someone else's story just to make money.

  • @madamesyrin Of course one of the reasons was for money, but that is because he writes for a living. If you were a writer you would write for money as well. He based the novel around an actual event, but it is his artistic exploration into the the human psyche during times such as this. The only story he took with out asking is the Cellist's.

  • Just finished reading chapter 1. Best investment towards literature to date.

  • Just read this book. An amazing piece of literature. Not to be missed. You really get inside the minds of the characters. Enjoy.
