  • The western sheets have thickened tremendously recently. Check it out.

  • Things are never that simple alas.

You are missing one crucial point, because it is warmer, there is a lot more snowfall in Antarctica (due to more humidity in the air), which acts as an insulator for the ice in summer, which in the short term means less melt.

  • Why would such a mechanism be "short-term"? Even the most alarmist warmist prediction will still see average temperatures over the vast majority of Antarctica well below freezing. Hence this increased snowfall will be a NEGATIVE feedback mechanism of INCREASED importance. Ruling out the catastrophic sea level rises, we are scared with.

  • For one thing, the massive ice shelves people worry about are floating on the sea, which sits at a fairly steady 1.8 degrees below freezing. Not a lot of wriggle room. Even slight changes in temperature can make the land based ice move at hugely advanced speeds out to sea also, which again in the short term would equate to more ice coverage...

  • Melting of floating ice does not affect sea level. This massively-increased glacial speed is speculative, and would be counteracted by the increased showfall you admit.

  • Ha ha - somebody obviously didn't do experiment with a glass full of water with ice cube in it... in play-school :-)

  • nice theory. when the scientists stop lying and manipulating data and gather an analysis of warming trends with some meaning (i.e. from 5000 BC to 2010 then we can share some actual data. Until then, these are just arrogant humans thinking we can control the planet. funny

  • good one!

    Thanks mate :-)
