So I did this; I removed a video card that I had in an old CPU and put it into another CPU (both PC circa 1999) and it didn't do anything. I started up the PC and got no picture on my screen. I removed the video card and the PC works fine without it. Did I do something wrong?

@uphill248 It all depends on the graphics slot you have on the mobo. Any card which has that type of slot will work! But remember: your power supply needs to have enough watts (and on some cards it needs power cables). Don't forget to disable your old card before doing all this. (in the device manager!)

right, basically your graphics are integrated.

integrated graphics don't count as graphics cards.

and when you put a new graphics card in, you only use the graphics card not the onboard graphics.

you'll either have 'PCI', 'AGP', or 'PCIexpress'.

AGP 4X or AGP 8X.

PCIexpress x16 1.0 or PCIexpress 2.0

2.0 and 1.0 are backwards and forwards compatible (motherboard>gpu and vice versa)

But there can be compatibility issues.

The black things are for AGP cards, white things are for PCI or most likely pci-e cards, i think u have the pci-express slots, so slide your card in there, but better make sure that your card is a PCI-E card not an AGP card when doing so.
