Geoffrey Canada and his Harlem Empowerment Zone have a quarter of a BILLION dollar endowment. Let me repeat that: They have 250 million dollars. Why cant such rich PRIVATE charter school organizations do what public Boards of Education did in decades past: BUILD SCHOOLS! Schools should not have to share space; it is a recipe for educational failure. When there is money enough in Manhattan to build high income luxury rental buildings by the dozen there is money enough to build a few new schools.

I just saw an interview with Mr. Canada on Fox Chicago. I was extremely impressed with what he had to say regarding education. I think what will likely fall on deaf ears is that his ideas should be applied regardless of race. What is often glossed over is education issues isn't just a race issue; depending on the community it may be an issue of race, class and/or athletic ability.
