i see you keep the peat moss in your containers. I was interested in getting some as a form of decoration in their containers. But some T Keepers told me that it could cause fungu/mold.. any tips on housing with peat moss?
@pizzaisfuntoeat Lmao, this was my first video with a crappy camera. I since then have been using my iphone 4 hd camcorder and if you see other recent videos from a year back they are better quality.
They range in price. G.rosea (rose hairs) are usually found in almost ANY pet store with a reptile department. They usually sell old wild caught adult females for under $30.
B.smithi (red knees) are much more expensive. $30-50 will get you a well started spiderling, but the prices are high if you're getting adult females ($150-200 is average price for one). In my honest opinion, B.smithi are far better choices than G.rosea
Wow, I'm terrified of spiders (not sure why lmao) but In a few years I'm probably getting one... I think the one at 2:33 is really nice looking. I hope that I can get over my fear, and eventually get one
@deathbyaangel No! And you should never try. Without their fangs they cannot eat and will die. Their venom is as mild as a bee sting. There has been no record of a person dying from a tarantula bite. Most tarantulas(including Salmon Pinks) would rather run and hide then attack. I've been in this hobby for 5 years now and never have been bit.
@ihagtafuith k, Everytime I try to pick him up he jumps at my hand, trying to bite me, He's straight from the wild so maybe this is the reason, only bout a year old, is there any way to get him to become tame
@deathbyaangel Hello, if my memory serves me right I believe you have a Salmon Pink Birdeater? Ok, these t's are not really handleable, they are quick and can be defensive. I would not hold him if he is wild caught, he is not used to human interaction. As far as I know no one can tame a tarantula. I would suggest getting a beginner species like a mexican red knee, they are pretty docile and you can handle them.
Your Enclosures are too small.... They Should Have about 5x its length and about About 50 Cm min height... as they are Spiders... they are made to climb!
@MarkMck1994 5x?? That's a bit extreme. Tarantulas have poor vision, they can't see well past 6 inches. You're telling me you'd stick a 5" B. Smithi in a 25" long enclosure? That's ridiculious! The T would have a very hard time finding it's food, not to mention it won't feel secure. Most tarantulas occupy a space max 3x bigger than themselves, most just use their hide. I've kept my tarantulas this way for 5 years now, they grow very well and are very healthy.
@piewackit444 Hi there, I only use a heat lamp in the dead of winter, I'm talking about when it hits like 50 degrees in san diego, other than that I use heat pads or usually we keep out house temp at 75 in the winter. Tarantulas do not require uvb lights, those light sources are for reptiles.
I got my enclosure today, There's about a 2" substrate below and about a 5" substrate where the hide is, is that ok? Can I use a bottle cape for water bowl?.. Check my video out if you don't understand my crappy speech :P
k excellent video man!! I a Tarantula lover and have 8 as of now have 5 more on order in the next week but any ways ! your enclosures are welfare lol no display at all large critter keepers are 15-20 bucks and gives them a better place to live!! but excellent collection!!
@Hadsatriani This video was made over a year ago, now I have only 6 tarantulas and 3 scorpions. My 3 female Baumgarteni's have 10 gallon tanks but the male is in a tupperware. I'll make a vid soon.
@ihagtafuith LOL dude I was just messing around!! welfare I say!!! wait a little bit k ill do a video on all mine!! and youll see some welfare set ups!! i took tupper wear and drilled 1/2 inch holes and sho glued 1 inch brass screens on the air holes!! it looks terrible lol i was just fucking with ya being an ass!!! sorry i was bored!! sweet collection!!!
@illy711 Not really, tarantulas have poor vision, they can only things real close to them. In the wild they stick to one burrow almost their entire life and may go explore a bit. Alot of people use really large enclosures which 1) makes the tarantula uneasy and unsafe 2) not be able to see prey items. Sorry for the rant lol
@lazyericzilla No tarantula is out to bite anyone. There are a few that are pretty aggressive and if cornered may strike but in general Tarantulas are calm animals who would rather run and hide than "bite" you, gotta love them.
@haijeo I used to hold a few of them but they don't seem to really like it so I stopped. Tarantulas are not meant for frequent handling, once in a while is ok and with the right species.
@ihagtafuith do all scorpions try to sting you does yours at least and where can you get some nice tarantulas and do they bite you? lol im new to these animals and what should i feed them?
@Bakusaiga1311 Well neither scorpions or tarantulas try to bite or sting you only if you provoke them. Most will just run and hide. If you want to buy a scorpion I would suggest getting a Babycurus Jacksoni(Rusty thick tail scorpion), they are good for beginners, if you want a tarantula get a Brachypelma Smithi(Mexican Red Knee). You can feed them crickets, they love those.
nice collection man does anyone know about dyskinetic syndrome in Ts, my juvinile red knee has it and im trying to get him through it but i need more infro. Pls help??
Hi, well dyskinetic syndrome is not something I'm very familiar with since none of my T's have had it. If you google it you will find many helpful threads about it but it is a very hard disease to cure, good luck.
i want a scary looking reptile/ arachnid thing, and dont want to have a huge cage and bulbs, message me if you know anything like that?(i want to play with it too)
Lol, don't worry I didn't release her, she went to another home. Besides like I said in the video one of my friends wild caught her, so she was originally from the wild, but decided he didn't want to keep her so I took her.
Not really, they can be pretty defensive. May give lots of threat displays and won't hesitate to attack. There are alot of docile beginner tarantula's that have great colors for example some brachy's, I would start off with those until you get some experience then go for more defensive T's.
Tarantula's must molt their old exoskeleton periodically in order to grow. Arthropods/Inverterbrates wear their skeleton on the outside therefore they grow from the inside, when they get too big from the inside they shed their outer layer hence molting.
I handle a few, more docile species. When you first get into this hobby you just want to handle but you slowly learn these are not really handlable creatures so then they become just for looks, thanks for the comment.
Well I just pick out the leftover food and scrape the poop but I don't clean the cages as often. But if it's a whole cage maintenance I'll put the Tarantula in a deli cup and clean it out.
Umm that might be a bit difficult considering I live in California, USA lol. On Sept 5th there will be an expo I'm going to, I'll see what they got, I really want more Pamphobeteus, they are badass.
great video, I want to get a Tarantula soon too, but I was just wondering, whats a good starting tarantula, I want one thats not too fiesty and is quite calm.
Thanks, I would definately suggest a Brachypelma Emilia(Mexican Painted Leg), very docile and calm. You can also go with a Brachypelma Smithi(Mexican Red Knee) also quite docile, might kick a bit more hairs than the Emilia but both are great beginner T's.
brazilian white knee is either nice or meen im not very sure on that one but the rest i can tell you
the rose hair is the cheapest spider in the hobby usually very docile and handelable but they tend to have mood swings and there bite is painfull lol but its a good starter
indian ornamental (my favorite by the way =] is a genaraly defensive but kinda but more docile then agressive
Yeah like regalis420 said that list of taratulas are not great as beginners except for the Rose Hair but he's right again they do have mood swings. I would definately suggest Brachypelma Smithi(Mexican Red Knee), Brachypelma Emilia(Mexican Red Leg), Lasiodora Parahybana(Salmon Pink Birdeater), these are great beginner species.
ide say it was ok but the venom is something to watch out for like i said the indian ornamental is misunderstood lol its my fav and wen i get one ill handle it
for a tarantula its strong but you wont die but you will definetaly feel effects but i will take that risk anyday to expierience holding one
and they are over $200 for and adult female but its well worth it
ide rather get a baby becouse they grow very quickly you got about a year in a half to mature but it will get bit within 3 months and the younger ones are like $30-$50 dollars depending on how big you buy it
the effects would be profuse sweating pain around the bite area and your hand would get stuck lets say you got bit and about 15 minutes later you decide to flip someone off it would get stuck like that unless you move it with your other hand but that doesnt alwast happen if you dont gett medical attention the pain will be a little worse but if you go your just wasting money cuz you would be ok anyway but the pain would be a bit more intense
hmm im not familiar with the UK try looking up the name and maybe something will turn up lol im looking for one as well =] oh and if they have like reptile shows or like a pet flee market around there you should catch it they usually have the indian ornamental since it is the most common ornamentel
like i said despite the effects of the venom this is a very good spider to have =]
well if your not into pain then yea you should go but i wouldnt becouse i dont want to pay for getting help from something that wont kill me or have any long term effects but if you are alergic you should go but even then there is a slim chance that you will die ...noone ever died from a tarantula bite
i know but stay away they are not begginer species i dont want it to escape on you when u transfer it and it bites u i would get a few more t's and experience before getting it i would go with any avicularia if u like arboreal and brachypelma for terrestrial believe me bad choice very bad choice for begginers that is the one of the worst decisions i have heard to get a pokie as a first t ask anyone they would reccomend else
thank you for listening believe me its worth waiting for tho...i reccomend u get a A.versicolor if u like arboreals they are REALLY nice very pretty purplish red and blues thats what i would go wit
I'm getting into acrylic enclosures, I made one a while ago for my big Baumgarteni, I will be making another acrylic enclosure soon for my Phamphobeteus, I will video it.
Yeah, there's an article on zootoo(dot)com about pet tarantulas being seized. The article itself and the fallowing comments really ticked me off because it really shows the ignorance people have about spiders. >:-(
LOL I think its a little to cold for the T's to be out. I'm just starting my T collection all i have right now is a pink toe that i got at LLL reptile Bu im going to the reptile show next month so if i don't see any reptiles i want ill be buying T's instead.
u shouldn't release her cuz she is now use to eating when u feed him/her so pls don;t release it cuz u seem like u know what ur diong in caring for it
Thank you for the gesture. She never really like it in captivity. She was given to me by a friend who caught her somewhere in the mountains near Anaheim, he couldn't take care of her anymore so I took her in. I'm still thinking about it.
My friend caught the California Ebony near Anaheim, I forgot what location exactly. I heard at night the males are out looking for females around san diego so take a flashlight out and follow the males to the females.
Well I was just at the right place at the right time Jon. I picked her up as a 1-2 inch juvie marked Brachypelma Emilia, she did have that black upside down triangle on her carapace but as she grew she of course changed. So I would say the was the luckiest day of my life lol.
I go to LLL Reptile in Escondido and Oceanside. Unfortunately they stopped the $10 sale, if you go to them and tell them you didn't have time to pick one up they might honor the $10 price, wouldn't hurt to try.
Wicked vid and nice setups man, good stuff :)

i know but stay away they are not begginer species i dont want it to escape on you when u transfer it and it bites u i would get a few more t's and experience before getting it i would go with any avicularia if u like arboreal and brachypelma for terrestrial believe me bad choice very bad choice for begginers that is the one of the worst decisions i have heard to get a pokie as a first t ask anyone they would reccomend else
knifeguru350 2 years ago
alright, I wont go for a pokie, thanks for the information and advice :)

do you need a LICENCE FOR TURANTULAS
LethalMX 2 years ago
No, I don't think you need a license to own tarantulas. Maybe in other countries.
ihagtafuith 2 years ago
nah
biglarry345 2 years ago
As far as I know, tarantulas are illegal as pets in Sioux City, Iowa but I haven't heard anywhere else being illegal or needing permits.
KawaiiKemonomimi 2 years ago
Really? I didn't know that any state illegalized them, that's weird.
ihagtafuith 2 years ago
Yeah, there's an article on zootoo(dot)com about pet tarantulas being seized. The article itself and the fallowing comments really ticked me off because it really shows the ignorance people have about spiders. >:-(

nice collection of brachys. I'm trying to do the same as you with avics. that baumgarteni is a true beauty
fdw412 2 years ago
Thanks. Avics are cool but I'm not really into arboreals as much as terrestrials. I want to get a P. Metallica, that would be a sick arboreal.
ihagtafuith 2 years ago
yeah no doubt

u shouldn't release her cuz she is now use to eating when u feed him/her so pls don;t release it cuz u seem like u know what ur diong in caring for it
crazypetkeeper1999 2 years ago
Thank you for the gesture. She never really like it in captivity. She was given to me by a friend who caught her somewhere in the mountains near Anaheim, he couldn't take care of her anymore so I took her in. I'm still thinking about it.
ihagtafuith 2 years ago
where did you catch that Tarantula in san diego,
sunsetreptiles 2 years ago
My friend caught the California Ebony near Anaheim, I forgot what location exactly. I heard at night the males are out looking for females around san diego so take a flashlight out and follow the males to the females.

Louistogies 2 years ago
I know, it was nuts. But of course I didn't know it was a baumgarteni, just at the right place, right time and right purchase lol.
ihagtafuith 2 years ago
OMG!! baumgarteni!!!! Damn dude NICE!!!! And i must say very nice T collection! Keep the vids coming!
XGCPR3D4T0R 2 years ago
Yeah I had the same reaction when I found out it WAS a baumgarteni. Thanks and I will keep posting.
ihagtafuith 2 years ago
How on earth did u get ur hands on a baumgarteni?
Jon3800 2 years ago
Well I was just at the right place at the right time Jon. I picked her up as a 1-2 inch juvie marked Brachypelma Emilia, she did have that black upside down triangle on her carapace but as she grew she of course changed. So I would say the was the luckiest day of my life lol.
ihagtafuith 2 years ago
you lucked out. I'll be posting a T vid shortly
Jon3800 2 years ago
Awesome, I always look forward to your vids, you have an awesome collection.
ihagtafuith 2 years ago
I'm on my way to getting a male baumgarteni, so I will try this breeding project, hope for the best.
ihagtafuith 2 years ago
I live in San Diego too and where the was that pet shop that you bought the pink toe?
FireGuyX 2 years ago
I go to LLL Reptile in Escondido and Oceanside. Unfortunately they stopped the $10 sale, if you go to them and tell them you didn't have time to pick one up they might honor the $10 price, wouldn't hurt to try.
