It's funny how many planes crash in the Congo and other impoverished places in Africa compared to everywhere else. Most of the time it's because of poor maintenance and also because they like to but really old planes that the western countries don't want to use anymore more obvious reasons.

The PILOT's a PRO! So much potential for disaster here. I like how after he sets it down, he coasts on the runway for as long as possible to slow the plane, enough to steer it in the dirt without breaking up. Glad he still had hydraulics for the flaps. Unless there was flying luggage, I doubt anyone even had a hurt feeling in that "crash".

@Jafromobile I agree. I remember when this happened. It doesn't say it in the description but I'm pretty sure it wasn't his fault the landing gear failed. The guy was very humble about it like Sully. This pilot made the 'textbook' hard surface landing and Sully showed em all how to land in water. I hope both of them can pass the knowledge on to the next generation.

This was Global International Airways B707-323B N8434 (I dont see First International written on it) and it had to make an emergency landing after a long takeoff roll caused the left main gear to hit an approach concrete ILS pylon at the end of the runway atr Brasilia Airport in 1983, it sheared the gear in two. It was ground crew error, listing incorrect of weight on cargo loaded on board. No one was hurt, plane was toast. I used to work for GIA when this happened.
