  • great picture.better than the others uploaded

  • Robinson-"Your eyes are like limp pools of..."

    Olive-"Clam chowdah!"

    Robinson-"Your lips are soft as..."

    Olive-"Livawusht!"

  • @TheRealThreeP If you had that for dinner with your girlfriend and you were going to say those things, youd been in trouble

  • How come no matter how many times Popeye is ship-wrecked (some sailor!! ), he never uses his spinach (which he is carrying on him) to save himself??? lol lol

  • @ 0:36 to 0:39 isn't that Herman from "Herman and Katnip" one of the Famous Studios/Harvey Animation stars of Paramount?

  • @bigg34691 -you can also see another version of herman in the paramount screen song-gobs of fun

  • @kayfowler1 What interesting is both Popeye and Herman were stars for Paramount Studios in some of the Herman and Casper cartoons they show the gates of Paramount Studios. 2012 marks the 100th anniversity of the founding and opening of Paramount Studios. I hope that Paramount comes out with a DVD With all of the Animated stars of Paramount including Betty Boop,Popeye, Superman,Herman & Katnip,Casper and many of the other animated Paramount Stars.

  • Bluto should spy on a supermodel who has long blonde hair, perfect figure (shaped like an hourglass) and natural big funbags (breasts) 'coz Olive's too ugly...end of story.

  • LOL! @ 4:31 Stompin'! :-)

  • ggkngglijgćjoguj

  • imo, Popeye's Pappy is the #1 rarest cartoon

  • Lol, What doez Turner use to edit these episodes to restore them/edit out stereotypes?

    Windows Movie Maker?

  • PopeyeTheSailorTV has the unedited version but it has a different tone.

  • Hmm Friday I believe was supposed to be a comical, if not stereotypical, version of Rochester (Eddie Anderson) from the Jack Benny show.

  • @Cattaneo1590 That is absolutely correct

  • Why isn't Jack Mercer doing Popeye's voice in this one?

  • @starwarsfanboy3 he was in the navy at the time

  • Doesn't Friday sound like Buzzy Crow?

  • @TeamRocket2010 -jackson beck did both voices

  • Doesn't Herman the Mouse appear in this one?

  • this cartoon is a little rasict but I understand it was just the time at that time

  • Its airing on Boomerang right now but edited :)

  • *sigh* I suppose Bill Tytla was a better animator than director. I was not impressed by this cartoon.

  • I'm pretty sure I've seen it uncut dubbed in Italian. Italy is a strange place... I've never seen "Pop-pie a la mode" or "Popeye's Pappy", but I've seen others unedited and dubbed. For example Tom & Jerry's "His Mouse Friday" airs pretty much regoularly

  • 1:16 THE WOLF HOWL is from a halloween sound effect record that I bought in the 1980's

    NIGHT IN A GRAVEYARD

    HAUNTED HOUSE

    RIDE OF THE HEADLESS HORSEMEN

  • this is terrible

  • Popeye Is Revoiced By Brian Doyle-Murray On Boomerang Airings

  • How come Popeye didn't use

his spinach to save himself & Olive when they

were shipwrecked in the middle of the ocean

    on that raft. lol lol

  • wow, bluto is really fast

  • 3:10-3:12

    Oh snap!

Pluto is going waaaay out of hand xDD

  • popeye captured every animel even

    the lochness monster LOL

  • @s275ironman Where's The Part With Merman The Mouse?

  • @johnnieRad -in the beginning sweeping the rug

  • Oh, HELL no! I love Popeye, but that was outta line with the "stooge." it's easy to not want to worry about "political correctness" when u aren't holding the short end of the stick. U can't deny that at the time these cartoons were made, blacks were still considered 2nd class citizens, so yes-it's still offensive to see & be reminded of that, even in cartoons.

  • I wish all the people hollering about racist stereotypes would actually show these cartoons to some kids. . .I doubt any of them would think there was anything offensive in them.

  • i love these old cartoons,, didnt have to worry about being polictically correct

  • I love the song Friday sings at the beginning "No one needed a gal like he did, he wanted to wooso!"

  • I don't care if this rare short doesn't have the original titles. I can just make an edit of them or something if I want them like that. What's important is that we can even see this short still in any form.

  • Jackson Beck supplied the voice of Bluto as well as his stereotyped servant Friday.

  • Along with the fight with the alligator, Tyer also does the scene with Olive, Bluto and the food. But as with his cartoons with Kneitel as head animator, Tytla put limits on Tyer's animation in the final two cartoons the two worked on ("Rocket to Mars" being the other). Moving over to Terrytoons was actually a half-step down from the head animator position at Famous, but allowed him freer reign on his own style.

  • what was the name of the third perfume Bluto had?

  • @andoykids

"Schlemiel #49" schlemiel is Yiddish for victim or loser.

  • that is kind of.... racist.

  • Thank you for the unedited video of The Island Fling.

(Interesting how Friday was edited out in some showings, but Bluto/Crusoe's amourus overtones to Olive were left in.)

  • IINM, Friday is voiced by Jackson Beck here too, doing the voice he'd later do for Buzzy the Crow.

  • Jackson Beck is Robinson Crusoe (bluto )

  • Jim Tyler huh? I thought the scene with Popeye pulling the Alligator inside out looked familiar.

I saw Mighty Mouse of Terrytoons do the same thing to a Lion.

  • Friday is soooo cool...

  • LOL! @ 4:30

  • hope and crosby chest.this cartoon is classic

  • who is it?

you know there is just the two of us on this island.lol

  • The mouse is Herman of Herman and Katnip.

  • @Johnffrey87 where i can see him?

  • @Dewitt4ever At :37 seconds in.

  • @Johnffrey87 now i see him but to my curiousity he was there in sinbad the sailor .

  • God-damn it! I was trying to find this one!!!

  • I wonder why Robinson Crusoe had girls on his walls?.

  • They ran this cartoon for years in syndication. Then Ted Turner aired a cut version.

  • Look closely at 4:53 and 5:57, it looks like Popeye's ankle is bleeding.

  • Thats because thats his socks or underpants being exposed, because his pants are worn out from being on the raft for so long.

  • Mr.Jack Mercer doesn't do "Popeye's"voice for this movie

cartoon. "Popeye's"voice is performed by Harry Foster Welch.

  • Great ep!

  • doesnt have the original beginning paramount logo..has the AAP sleeve

  • As rare as this cartoon is, it really don't matter if it is an a.a.p. print...just as long as the body of the cartoon is complete.

  • @s275ironman This Will Be Aired On Boomerang To Remove Island Native Sterotyping

  • @johnnieRad TBS, TNT and Cartoon Network used to air this cartoon exactly as you had described. Boomerang aired it once back in 2003, but has never shown it since then.

  • @s275ironman A Redrawn Version Will Air On Boomerang & A Black African Island Native, Called Friday Is Replaced By A Thin White Man & He Is Revoiced By Jim Cummings.

  • @s275ironman Every episode of popeye (including that one of alpine for you aap copy)that aired once like this one and others,i take them as creepypasta :))

  • @s275ironman This is one of the cartoons where Herman (look on other paramount prints [non-popeye]for it)makes a appearance on Popeye The sailor.IT'S THE ONLY PRINT WHERE HERMAN APPEARS IN POPEYE

Another factor that makes it rare.

  • @s275ironman Can you find the paramount one?Please..

  • @s275ironman Wasn't there another Popeye cartoon that came out in where Popeye was stuck on a island with a group of hungry cannibals including a small cannibal who tries in vain to "eat" Popeye throughtout the whole cartoon. I also remember the same small cannibal in the cartoon "Wotta Knight" where he was a "gong" or "ringside bell" during a jousting tournament..

  • @bigg34691 -one is popeye ala mode.the other is wotta knight

  • @kayfowler1 Thanks!

  • Wonder what this will be like in anime?

  • @TheStephenShow Nah! It's good as it is.

Check "Popeye vs Anime" on YouTube.

  • this is fantastic!! thanx for the upload!!

  • Herman the mouse makes a cameo appearance in this cartoon.

  • i have never seen this episode

never now here it is right in front of me

finally been waiting for ever for this popeye episode.

  • Thank You So Much

  • Jim Tyer is the animation directior and animator. He is uncredited because he has already told studio's heads that he is going to Terrytoons.
