  • Society of the Spectacle

  • @Eksynyt salvadore is right. Your off subject butthurt rants just make you look like a douche.

  • I would love to fart in the crowd.

  • Gee what fun. Almost as fun as a zombie walk or painting silver and walking around nude - two other northwest past times. In every other city in america people are actually enjoying themselves.......YouTube "Bay To Breakers" for a REAL party.

  • the flash mob we had today was pretty fun but it wasnt intricate at all, it was planned last minute and only 600 people came hahah. we did it in the salem mall and the first one at noon we all stood up and started clapping wildly and whistling and shit then we ran to hot topic and did we will rock you for like 7 minutes hahaha

  • i'm in portland, give me a shout when one of these are going to happen, would love to participate!!

  • This is so cool!

  • lol at 1:30 what da FUCK

  • This is why Portland can't keep a bush league baseball team. This is such a pathetic city that is such a wannabe west coast city but just cannot compete. Get a sports team and keep it. People are too obsessed with hating "evil" corporate America and they aren't enthusiastic about sports...boring and trite. Sorry Portland, but you fail.

  • @Eksynyt screw you man this is what makes Portland awesome and no one likes baseball you idiot so go screw youreself

  • @Eksynyt OOHRAH SPORTS!!!

yeah, bet sports got you real far in life. Now go bag my groceries.

  • @Eksynyt wait, let me get this straight... portland is a pathetic city because we freeze in the streets.

where your argument maybe valid in another video it makes no sense here.

  • Lame

  • Wow this is pretty retarded

  • Liberalism is a metal disorder....

  • Hey, I recognize that city! It's Portland!

    Portland SUCKS.

  • I promise you, if I ever run across one of these groups in downtown Portland, I will punch each and every one of you in the fucking face for blocking the sidewalk. Women too.

  • @BusterHymen22 That would be a big mistake on your part. Remember, there is one of you--these are usually done with 50 folks or so at a time. 50-1 ratio is not a good # in your favor.

  • @skylarportland I think I could handle it. Especially with all of the pansy-ass men who populate Portland and do stupid shit like this.

  • Lame!

  • I understand, this word art means that something in this world is in own way like this can be art,if you crash your window,I hope you understand what I mean

  • God this is badass. I totally woulda stolen those quarters that guy was goin for though xD

  • What a waste. This shit isnt art!

  • mate art has evolved since painting and sculptures, anything is art these days just coz it aint art to you doesnt mean its not art.

  • It might be art but damn, this idea is overplayed.

  • Your definition of art is probably some piece of shit song by Justin Moore. Or, if you aren't a redneck hick saying this aint art; you are probably the emo who thinks art is sadness and depression. Which some is, but get over it and appreciate inventive and new pieces.

  • Hey dipshit, look at my profile and tell me if Im emo or not there. I guess you didnt check me out and Im awfully horny.

I stand by my opinion, I dont care for this freeze art type style. I remember one time where I wanted to read about the TRUE Seattle freeze or watch a video on the TRUE Seattle freeze, and all these students stand frozen, I didnt wanna watch it.

  • More often that not, I have seen people like that in my class. They make me want to hit things. Maybe not that severe, but I generally hate people like you who crave attention. Most crave it by turning emo, "Look at my pain..." just so someone will acknowledge them. And I also did say you might be a redneck.

  • I dont cut myself to get attention. Your argument is awfully futile here.

NTM, I am a lovable little bear when you get to know me. You wont ever cuddle with me though from how it looks.

  • Anything is ART in Port-Land, O. (even retarded ideas) The hotttie with the banana in her mouth, at 2:12, NOW THAT'S ART!

  • Sweet! I have seen a freeze at the Fred Myer in Corvallis, OR and it looks cool in person.

  • What's the point? Is there a cause or anything behind this? Or is it really just what it looks like, a waste of time...

  • It's called contemporary art. Are you kidding with this question? Or is it really what it looks like, you are THAT dumb...

  • What's dumb is "art for the sake of art", What's your message? What's the inspiration? Are you trying to make people think or feel something? Or is it just shock value? People lying in body bags in front of a Tobacco corporation is this type of performing art with purpose, making a statement, this is just wasted energy. Saying "It's called contemporary art" isnt answering my question at all.

  • I think you need to read the definition of the word "art". What you described is a peaceful demonstration to convey a message to an audience. It was creative but not necessarily art.

"art for art's sake", as it's properly written, is as old as Roman culture and it is not dumb. It just does not serve a moral or utilitarian purpose.

  • @SplitRemi They're doing it for fun. Since they don't have anything better to do, I see it as a decent way to spend time.. verses what your doing, searching things on the internet and bad mouthing people.

  • awsome!!

  • LA ROCKS!

  • if i had been driving by, I would have stopped and froze my car.

  • everybody in the world is doing freeze...it's so awesome..wish i can be one of the participants too...

  • lolo me too but you need like super pro training

  • NO you dont...Ive got a friend that is in this and it doesnt require "super pro training" :)

  • i miss portland, but i never saw them doing this, i saw the every one wheres boxers on the max but not this

  • Making pictures of people that are not moving!!!! lmao

Like that is going to show the event...

  • Haha .. thats exactly what i´m always thinking when i´m doing a freeze flashmob in my town and the people are taking photos of us xD

  • how do you do one of these?

  • what do you mean? .. sorry..how do i do a freeze? I'm just not moving .. or what do you mean? :')

  • i mean how do you organize such a large event, and get all the people to stop at the same time?

  • ahh:'D .. well.. first of all we need infos for the flashmob,(day, time) then we send everyone we know a message with the information.. and they send it to everyone they know...and so on..in internet communitys like "myspace" for example you can get the information .. like in "flashmob groups" or yo can get them on internet pages about flashmobs..in the end a lot of people know about it and come..(sry for ma real bad english it 06:00 am, i'm so tired and cant really think and i'm german):D

  • haha its ok. thank you very much!!! i will definatly see if i can join one of these somtime soon!

  • If you were to do a long exposure shot it will show the event very well.

  • WTF?

  • haha 4:18 looks like kristen stewart and nikki reed. haha. this was around when twilight was here.......so maybe........

  • OMG!!! I THINK YOUR RIGHT!!!!!!!!!

  • 0:31. Is that biker frozen? How?

  • He's got it leaned against a rail. Very clever!

  • must be the coffee beans out there.

  • Do people from Portland have an accent ?

    Just wondering.

People from Boston, Tenneseee, California, Texas and other parts of the country do.

Portland seems like an awesome place to live.

I think I would love the low-humidity weather in the summer and winters where the weather isn't sub-zero everyday....for several months.

    I hope to visit soon.

  • no actually most people from the north west have no accent at all. We might have an accent to other people but we are pretty much the plainest accent there is.

  • Well Everyone has an accent depending on where you live.. But I would say it is a west coast accent.. Same as californians and washingtonians

  • as far as american we are the cleanest speaking, and well pronounced. wheni goother placesi have no idea what people are saying to me

  • well to us we don't ive heard we pronounce stuff wierd

  • I dont think people from portland have an accent. But being from portland may change my opinion. KEEP PORTLAND WEIRD!

  • lol, only if they could make the dog freeze

  • I LIVE IN PORTLAND!

  • Is this outside Powells books? What was going on? I love Portland Oregon!

  • Me too! I live two blocks from here. This is so amazing.

  • You see the girl with the banana froze in her mouth. LOL

  • If that had been a Black Broad with a Banana, this would've been all over the news and Portland Mayhem Productions would've been shutdown for perpetuating racial stereotypes.

Whites Plant Negra on the Corner with Banana.

  • to answer your question,if there are big towers in the background the only portland it could be is portland oregon

  • Yatta!!!

  • keep Portland weird.i love this town.

  • Big guy @2:15 is hilarious.

  • they were most definitely a noob

  • The NYC one was was better. Way to make our city look original...

  • It's not just Portland, the Grand Central Station event started a movement. This has been done in about 70 places worldwide now. I think it's cool.

  • I LOVE PORTLAND!!! the culture here is frikin amazing.

  • of course this would happen by powells

  • so how long did they freeze?

  • Which Portland is this?

  • Portland, Oregon!

  • when did this happen? I missed it.

  • The NYC version was better... people moved to much in this one!

  • *too much

  • wouldnt it be cool if we got every in the world involved except someone funny like george bush or sumfin and watch him go crazy.

  • dude the guy on the bike is crazy how can you stay still that long

  • great vid! thanks for filming it. i loved that you were so enamored with the kissers across the street; they were so cute.

and i loved that you clapped and were so thrilled when everyone unfroze. :)

  • Actually the most famous ones take place in NY, where Improv Everywhere is located. I just dont see the use of pulling out a camera for still photos when that's all you get is a freeze frame anyhow.

  • Wow. You should close your eyes and just listen. You might be surprised with what you can hear - little rustling of papers, a car horn in the distance.

The same idea here - with all those frozen, you were able to really see the unfrozen things. Cars, litter in the gutter, etc.

  • I'm kind of mad they never crossed the street; I was theere!

You can see my back at 4:45. I was leaning against one of the bars.

This was hella cool, and I'm glad I was there. :]

  • Sorry, but I wanted to keep filming without interruption and crossing the street with the camera running would have been a little too dangerous. I'm still hoping to find more people who took video so we can compose a better video.

  • Thanks for the video. The camera person must have been right behind me. There are some shots of the back of my head.

  • Sorry! I wish we would have had a couple camcorders going. If you know anyone with video let me know. Maybe we can compile a video that covers more. -Rio

  • luve Fluffer's banana! Wish I could've been there- had 2 do a wedding.

    -Brat

  • This is so C-O-O-L! Thanks for posting since I couldn't have known ahead of time that I needed to be at Powell's Books at that time. I looooove it!

  • Haha, That's great :) At less i got to see what everyone else was doing, I couldn't see anything, beside a map!

  • felixzero--mind the description. NATIONWIDE EFFORT. last i looked this was performed in seattle, san diego, vancouver bc, atlanta, minneapolis/st. paul and boston as well as portland. but cool, criticize away. that's original.

  • That was so fun! You went by me and my mom so i didn't get to see myself but its so cool seeing everyone else because i was looking down in my position

  • We do whatever we feel. All kinds of stuff goes on here you don't even know most of which could not be done in Ny or SF due to stuff we have that you don't. We had fun with this as did people in a bunch of other cities, you should get over yourself.
