They have pulled this forward to the present and are presenting it as a badly orchestrated operation. It really started in 2006 under George Bush. Thousands of guns were traced by Mexico to the US. It also started about the same time the cartel wars started, in which over 40,000 people have been killed. The ATF seems to have let gun go south to supply this war for a reason that we'll never know because they are only studying the present. A five year mistake? No way.
@mpg827 Tracking guns started under Bush yes, but the guns being tracked were never allowed to walk. That only happened under Obama. This has been brought up in testimony several times.
@Carrie3570 As of Oct.1 2008 Mexico claimed that 29,000 guns from the US were recovered from crimes in the two preceding years, but the best numbers the US could come up with was about 9,000, which is still a large quantity of firearms that went across and were recovered. That means lots more went that are still in use. Doesn't sound like the tracking was working very well.
Lets not forget the 80 Branch Davidians that were murdered by the ATF/FBI/Clinton, based on fraudulent reports that Koresh was selling full auto weapons.
Here we have the government doing exactly what they accused Koresh of doing, but times X 10!
It's sickening that the Liberal media doesn't become more responsible and investigate the perps involved. Heads should roll, charges laid, and Obama impeached.

@terraturq I think everyone knows it boils down to gun control. You don't need to be a rocket surgeon (lol) to figure that out. What I am curious about is did this come down from the ATF, DOJ, or somewhere else. Just seems to me that the ATF was not where this operation started.

Does everyone know that it all boils down to our gov., or at least very powerful elements of our gov. do business with these cartels on a day to day basis and are profiting enormously from the so called war on drugs? He has lied, mislead and falsified things in the past (runs the Chicago office) to make things positive on the gun banners side. This appointment needs to be opposed, there are others who could be fair and be in the middle of this debate.
failed operation how do they think they can 100% track everything, that's stupid. the whole operation was doomed to fail to the point it makes me feel it was done on purpose to open a window of opportunity to skew it in ways to pursue personal agendas. it is like no one ever questioned "how" is this going to work like they just hear the idea and not think about it on any level, is this a bad case of "feel good do nothing" gone horribly wrong?
