Fantastic job!!! For those who say it's too literal, the fact is the song tells a story and this video follows that story. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, that's the best way to shoot a song such as this.
@motrinman19 At least that's our take on it. Adam is mum on the subject as far as i know. Sure wish I knew what he thought of it. That's the only reason the wife and i made it.
Guys well done!! first on song choice and secondly on the amount of work and thought gone into this. Simply great. How did you do the the bottle like effect in 0:21
Just a wide angle lens...and a poor one at that! The vignetting in the corners of the frame are not necessarily desirable. You like em' though, so I guess I'd better keep my "filmmakers" prejudices to myself. If the audience likes it, I'm doing it!
So far, I think the likes vs. dislikes are running like 100-to-1. Thanks to everyone who watched it, whether you liked it or not, because after all... isn't that the point?
I've been watching this video for nearly two years and am blown away by the comments of it being too literal. I still think it's a brilliant interpretation. Did you watch until the end? Or do you just disagree with things that you typically don't agree with?
I really like this vid. Anyone who thinks this vid is too literal doesn't understand the Crows' music. Clearly a video is an extension of the song's meaning and putting it into pictures which this does very well.
Thanks, Deltaguy767400! I appreciate your comment. And as long as I'm on I'd like to mention that the "copyright holder" of this music liked this video so much that they let me keep it up in spite of the fact that I am not legally entitled to do so. Kudos to them!
That seems to be a recurring comment. Some like it, some don't. That's why we call it art. I'm curious as to how so many people "like" it but still think it's too literal. If it's too literal, shouldn't you NOT like it? You see, it's easy to create a music video that does a complete visual disconnect with the song. It's MUCH tougher to make one that tries to take advantage of the mental images in the music and dramatize them visually, without going all MTV-80s cheesy. I took a shot at it.
Just cause I find it a bit to literal doesn't mean I can't enjoy it. I like the fact that you went out and did it. You took the time and put together a nice video. It's shot very nicely and has great editing. I even like all the stuff that is very literal. They look great. I just think there is to much of it. Plus for me not liking the fact that is very literal is the only somewhat negative thing I have to say about it. The pluses greatly outweigh that one minus.
We saw it this way and we shot. Too literal? That's for the audience to decide. Most like it OK it seems. Any suggestions as to how it should have been done?
That was beautiful. I thought about doing something similar, but now after watching this, I don't need to. Your video is all that I would have done and more.
Wow... you did an awsome job with this song. You must have put a lot of work into that video. In my opinion, your interpretation of this song was perfect, congrats
Thanks, LEClarke. That really makes my day! We worked hard to make this quickly and cheaply while still tellling it the way we wanted. I'm just sorry that no one with the Crows gave us any feedback...
That's too bad. I felt that the "last light to turn out" scene with you closing Maria's eyes probably set the tone of the video. And the concept that Mrs. Potter is Maria's mother gave the song a nice twist. And of course it all led up to the last few seconds of the video. Just brilliant and touching. Thanks for your time and a great effort.
Thanks, Motrinman19!

This is one of the best videos I've seen. It is a greet interpretation of this song, not many people can do that to counting crows songs.

Though I think it sometimes gets a bit too literal in the interpretation of the song, the intent shines through. Overall, a job well done. ;)
