i have a fully built 2000 R6 with a Yoshi shortened pipe. it shoots flames out the exhaust... and will go 174 :).... and it gets there way way way faster than this.. lol

@danielridesbikes2010 I bought a 2000 R6, with the exhaust off of an '06 it's loud as all hell and flames come out, hoping that's putting excessive wear and tear on the engine. You have any idea if it's a terribly bad thing to being doing to it?

@shj6yzf That could be it, I wish I had a bigger back tire, almost slipped on mud going on my driveway, it was a pretty close call and I just replaced the chain, make sure to tighten your chain so there is about 1 inch give up and day, too lose and it wont work well, too tight and it wont work well and keep your chain greased and higher octane gas will help aswell.

@shj6yzf Generally it doesn't make too big of difference as long as it wasn't TOO loose. I'm not sure what to tell ya. From 270-290~ is a long crawl and will just gradually accelerate. Maybe check your carbs if you have a '99-2002 because 2003+ they got fuel injection?

Yes it is stock except for a D&D slip-on pipe. I put my camcorder on a piece of styrofoam on the gas tank and taped it there. It's not me driving cause I don't ever really want to go that fast. My friend Scott is driving it. Owens10101 I have no "speedo mod thing". 2000 R6 with a D&D slip-on exhaust with a Sony Hanycam on a piece of styrofoam all taped to the tank.

i got the r6, 2001, with a tooth down on the front sprocket, it gets to speed alot quicker than this, only taken it to 148mph in 4th so dont know bout top speed......

yeh u right i had it on a dyno the speedo is out when it hit its actual speed of 151mph it was indicating 175mph! an indicated 160 in your case is probly incorrect thou, not as out as mine but still not an actual 160

@mjm9536 Actually, most bike manufacturers produce speedos that read up to 10% higher than the actual speed of the bike. This is because it is illegal for a manufacturer's speedo to read under the actual speed of the bike, therefore they try to go a little higher. So it is true that he may have been doing less than 160 in actuality, due to the % error inherent in any motorcycle speedo. Get a GPS that records top speed and "tape" it to the tank, then youll know for sure.

oh yes, the gp is a great sounding exhaust. I have the Devil high mount with a pretty big pipe. It is pretty damn loud at full throttle, and u can hear me from like a mile away. I LOVE IT! I'm trying to make it louder :)

If its a cold engine, its a good idea to let it choke and warm up alittle before u go out.

I have a 2000 r6 as well and ride it like an old lady since i just started riding and its my first bike.

But i must admit for a 600cc carburated engine, its plenty quick and handles really nicely. I was a bit worried when i thought about buying a 9 year old motorcycle but im glad i got an R6.

i ride it to school almost every day and its about 40km each way. Its honestly kind of jumpy on the highway cuz you know you have so much power. Im trying to pretend i have cruise control around slow drivers.

But back wise its not painful at all, im 22 and im fine after the ride. I even came back through the rain the other day.

I didnt wanna waste money on a starter 125cc so as long as you take it slow and drive it like a car, u will be fine. Afterall you want to arrive alive :)

I just bought a 2000 Yamaha YZF-R6 a week ago and it is amazing. I got it registered and I have to replace the brake pads to get it to pass inspection. But it is insane riding it. I'm only 17 and I bought it for $2800. I agree with you, ppl said not to buy a crotch rocket but I did. Also, buy some sliders on it because YOU WILL drop it when riding. Be careful and have fun!!!

stock r6 2000 120hp max speed 260kmh official yamaha specifications!!! and for me the one most important is the light weight you will fell more secure with a light sportbike than one bigger like a 1300cc busa or cbrxx1100 just changue the exahust geaders and other stuff and you will have a powerfull 600cc xD take care ride safe!!!

small bikes freak me out when i see those thin tires. They look like mopeds/scooters which are supposed to travel no more than 80kph.

I would never ride anything smaller than a 600cc, over that is just useless to me. Saving gas is a fun part of owning a bike too :)
