this was the tune that attracted me to pan. A nigerian walking up from Piccadily to home in Jerningham when I got to the panyard, I stopped on the road and could not move.
I am an All Stars fan till I die, but this tune for me is the highlight of pan. I don't think there will ever be a better arrangement. How they lost I don't know!
Yes it was in 1992: I was there, helped pushing the wagons on stage. Bought myself a Tenor Pan from the maker and tuner of Renegades' pans. Brought it back to Denmark. My first and until now only visit to Trinidad - one of the "Big Fives" in my life
Thanks for the memories! Wasn't that '92? Exodus won that year with "Savannah Party". IMHO, they should not have made it into the top 6. I would have given the nod to Phase II with "Jam meh up", with a close second to Jit with "Bees' melody". I had a video of that competition which was a treasured favorite for many years, until I lost my whole collection due to hurricane damage.
I've listened to this countless times from just an audio perspective. WATCHING them actually play the arrangement adds sooo much! Without question they should have won that night. Jit in my opinion is a musical genius. He arranges like no other. The music is constantly in motion with countermelodies throughout, always in sync. His addition of the 'flight of the bumblebee' is absolutely amazing.
Incredible. How in the world did they lose that night?!!
