  • Arrhh, I haven't smoked the stuff in years but I find meself reaching for the the passed jay...

  • Da Shiznit-----

  • This song starts to suck at 4:40.

  • @DekeRadio you suck

  • 5 people think the song Jump is better....lol

  • the most epic tune from the classic boys of VH !

  • @MenaceDemENACE I'm with you...one of the most underappreciated, yet best songs in their history.

  • @LT9856 It's the harmony break that gets me every time, it just...arrives.

  • @drogheda1966 I hear ya! When you think about it, they really didn't have another quite like it. Unless you can think of one?

  • Should have been a hit single

  • Guitar solo @4:19; WICKED!!!!

  • It's really cool to have an occasional reminder of what a truly amazing Rock band they were.

Arguably the best American band ever. (Maybe next to Dream Theater!)

  • THIS SONG IS SO FUCKIN KICK ASS

    IT'S SOOO UNDERATED!!!

  • Cford i aggree Great tone i think he was using the old Ampegs.

  • David Lee Roth = the KING OF SWAGGER !!

  • Ahhh!!! Intro is AWESOME !!! \m/

  • One of my all time favorite Van Halen tunes. As beautiful as David Lee Roth could do. Perhaps his song Hina off Skyscraper is close to this or better.

  • Simply the best American band in history!

  • @gc1able curious because ed and alex aren't even american

  • @thejokealive Ya but they formed in California so it still counts.

  • @gc1able You mean the Portuguese Russian, the two Dutch guys and one American?

  • @sexpistolsdaz ahah, even in Mike's real name "Michael Anthony Sobolewski", sounds like from East European.

  • 3rd album and they really nailed it. it blew me away when i first heard it. great solo in this song.

  • Damn they were good. The harmony is great!!! I miss them and those times...

  • Joe Satriani? whatever...

  • Ed Van Halen,doesn't,compare to Joe Satriani,Here's Why.Joe run's up 1,4,5,7,9,11,13,.Ed Goes opposite.13flat11flat10,9,8,7,6?major minThe only person better,is Alan Holldsworth

  • @dipshit776 Dipshit's a good name for you. Allow me to be the first (of undoubtedly thousands) to congratulate you on such an appropriately chosen nym.

  • @dipshit776 Guess you prefer Joe over Ed? I like them both for different reasons, acutally Ed was listening to Holdsworth during the Fair Warning days. I acutally like Ed's style over Joe's.

  • i use to rock this album everyday on my way to school always got me pumped really creative and different album that was a lil more unique than the rest of the first five albums...but i would agree this song was always my top favorite.. it not becoming a hit or single made it even better

  • The raw, unproduced sound of this album MUST be SOMEWHAT of a response to punk being so popular at this time. Their best.

  • my favorite vh song, saw them play this in houston in 81, the ticket cost 8 dollars and i had to borrow it from a friend....most awesome show ever! Tenth grade!!!

  • @couch63 Absolutely, man. And I agree with you about Michael...

  • this song is just beyond mind blowing

  • The undisputed KINGS of Rock n Roll ! Eddie is a fukn song writing genius.. MIchael Anthony is a good bass player too, people don't realize that.. You think that playing with the greatest rock guitar player of all time doesn't rub off on you after years? come on

  • The ending "Growth" sounds almost like an Alice in Chains song! haha. yours in a Simple Rhyme is great!

  • 1982 - driving with this cassette permanently burned into my Clarion tape deck... great memories! Thanks

  • @verbalizerone my buddy had a crankin stereo in his truck. when this came out he popped in the cassette and said "you gotta hear this" and proceeded to crank up Romeo Delight. Those days were bliss in southern califonia

  • One of their best songs for sure. Way underrated and underplayed on the radio.

  • WACF: Greatest Album of All Time. This song needs to be played on the upcoming tour. Should be a classic rock radio staple if radio didnt suck.

  • No one knows this and its all time fav vh song!

  • classic!!! probably one of the most underrated songs by THE BEST!!!!

  • Band is FUCKING TIGHT on this tune ---- they just let it rip like bad asses

  • this song has one my favorite Eddie solo - he just let loose and let it flow.. fuckin amazing

  • AMAZING, doesn't get any better!

  • Anyone else think the new album should -finally- open up with that riff at the end of this song? ;D

  • Great rock and roll from an incredible album. The original, late 80's Van Halen was the stuff.

  • my favorite part is 0:00 to 4:40

  • This whole band is tight!!! FUCKIN' A!!!

  • my favorite part 1:31 to 1:35

  • till hagar every VH song is underrated.

  • @bingrasm Except Jump.

  • I agree. Michael Shreads on Bass. And it was his back up vocals that really added to that one of a kind harmonizing that is one of their trade marks. The higher pitch back ups are MA. I am major fan from way back-1979. Every one in that band for better and worse made it magic not to mention Eddies outside the universe guitar techniques when they first became big, there was nothing like that in existance. And Roth, love him or hate him was/is an entertainer.

  • Its never lost as long as me and you keep playing it brother

  • all time favorite van halen song this song never seems to wear its self out

  • GUITAR SOLO AT 4:18 KICKS SERIOUS ASS!!!

  • Bring back Mikey, listen that bass, it's fucking righteous!

  • till 1984 album what these guys wrote/play was gold, this is another exemple.

  • Easily my favourite van halen song but not my favourite van halen record!

  • @iplayguitar83 No. Just the Diamond Dave era, Hagar's a hack

  • @iplayguitar83 you suck ass

  • you see mike is a great bass player he sounds amazing in every song the problem is with bass players they're always turned down to make them seem less then the guitar player but see the band must have ben like so no ones going to like this song so turn mike up and that just seems not rite!!!! so this is my favorite song cause u can hear the bass!!!!

  • M.A.! Van Halen's missing master plan. I love his bass lines here as well. And, as kchez mentions, his backup vocals are like-whoa! Mike always sang excellent alongside Dave and Ed. Who do you think was the icing on the cake for this band?

  • Eddie Van Halen is God.

  • Holy fucking backup vocals!!!!!

  • CRANK THAT SHIT!

  • I would call this VH's tribute to The Beatles, harmony wise.

  • This is the best VH ever. Best harmonies and riffs

  • Eddie was always dropping some little one-off riff into his licks, so many which went unnoticed. Take that tasty little one that only lasts from 3:24 to 3:27; it's a pull-off AS he's pushing his fingers UP the guitar neck. Try it -- it's damn tough to do. Yet his guitar playing was always peppered with little goodies like this, not every one fully noticed.

  • Proof that Classic Van Halen is the ultimate force for partying in the known and unknown universe!

  • @RAV52 I'll drink to that!!!!

  • GREAT BASS BY MICHAEL ANTHONY, THUMBS UP IF YOU AGREE!!

  • @cford1992 HELL YEAH!!! NO ONE CAN PLAY BASS LIKE MICHAEL ANTHONY!!!

  • @1962drob Dude is a fucking MONSTER on the bass, fuck all them motherfuckers that say he sucks, in my opinion he's right up there with John Paul Jones, and John Entwistle, he's a fucking INCREDIBLE bass player, perfect match for Van Halen, and let's not forget his iconic Jack Daniels bass, who else has a bass like that? Every time somebody says that he sucks I always say: "If Michael Anthony was a shit bass player, he would NOT have been in Van Halen."

  • @cford1992 WHO IN THE HELL WOULD DARE SAY MICHAEL ANTHONY SUCKS? ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS? MICHAEL ANTHONY OWNS!!! AND HIS JACK DANIELS BASS RULES!!!

BY THE WAY, AS YOU WERE SENDING ME THAT REPLY, I SENT YOU A REPLY ON "EVERYBODY WANTS SOME" THERE ARE 3 DUMBASSES THAT DISLIKE THAT VIDEO NOW. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?

  • @1962drob Believe it or not, a couple people have said to me that he's not a solid bassist. Don't worry I no longer know them

  • @cford1992 I don't blame you man!!! Those people are losers anyway!!!

  • @1962drob More dumb asses

  • @cford1992 THOSE 3 LOSERS CAN'T RHYME LOL.

  • @cford1992 Fine work indeed.

  • @cford1992 Totally agree dude!!! Michael Anthony was a great bass player. No one plays bass like Michael Anthony. Big Thumbs Up.

HIS JACK DANIELS BASS IS BAD-ASS!!!

  • @1962drob Not many sing like Michael Anthony either, he still has it,He should be in VH not Chickenflop, VH totally fucked him over.

  • @cford1992 And, it's no reunion without michael

  • aMMMMAAAzing stuff!!

  • Your right.but.it is a total disgrace not darn.

  • NEEDED A GIRL TO CALL MY ONE AND ONLY ----- IS THAT YOU ??

  • I just love how he says "darn disgrace" I don't feel he says it like it was really bad, actually I kinda feel he's saying it happy. but I love it!

  • One of Edward's greatest, period. Why radio doesn't play gems like this rather than "Panama" or any of that Van Hagar shit is beyond me....

  • @AnnihilatingAngel Panama is a great song. But yeah ii really dont like the hagar stuff. Just not Van Halen without Dave. BUT Thank god hes back with them. I heard i guess there making a new album with dave and going on a huge tour CANT WAIT!

  • michael anthony plays his ass off in this one, fucking amazing!

  • the last 10 seconds or so of this song sounds a lot like the entrance music for Demolition from the WWE....

  • The breakdown in this song is one of my favorites.

    Can't beat it!

  • This song kicks my head in! Awesome!

  • and i heard bells ringin........

  • If you look up sucks on line-Van Halen won't come up!

  • gewoon vet

  • they really don't make music like this anymore and its a fucking shame

  • @lolZEPPELINrules Actually, good music and good bands still exist. It's just those bands don't get signed. The good bands that did get signed got signed years and years ago. Like Van Halen, for instance.

  • Van Halen World Tour 2011-2012

    Dave,ED,Alex and Wolfgang,

For VH,2011's Tour is 1979 allover again,HELL FUCKIN' YEAH!!!!!!!!

  • @jlr41877 You are forgetting someone, aren't ya?

  • Love the lyrics in this tune, DLR did a great job with this one.

What an under rated tune, maybe I am just an old man, but I just don't think anything released at the moment can even touch songs like this.

Amazing what happens when you let a band develop their own songwriting skills instead of having everyone record songs written by Diane Warren and Desmond Child.

  • The album contains a hidden track at the end of "In a Simple Rhyme," a brief instrumental piece entitled "Growth." A longer version of "Growth" was supposed to start the band's next album, Fair Warning, but this did not occur. "Growth" was a staple of the band's live shows with Roth and often used as the start of their encores. Several outtakes from these sessions exist, including an unreleased instrumental titled often referred to as "Act Like It Hurts"

  • @phatboy90210

Hell yeah. I remember them playing this on the Fair Warning tour. We went apeshit!

  • i bought this album for 4$ in 1983 and fell in love with it.I wore the tape out and my sony walkman ...this is the best song on the album pure magic.

  • I like that little riff right at the end there... that's cool.

  • Van Halen at their peak no doubt!

  • you think you got the interest? come on and take the time....

    growth

  • This, in my opinion, is one of the most underated rock and roll songs of all time. This sounds like something the Who would put out. Every member of the band is at his best in this song. I'd swear if I heard the drums and didn't know who it was I'd say that's Keith Moon. And this is by far Mikey's best bass playing. Listen to the bass duringEds solo. It's a crying shame this stuff is forgoten in favor of the shit record companies spew out now faster than diahrea coming from a sick person's anus.

  • @wimpyliberalbuster32 Dude I was just saying basically what u stated back in 80 our local stations only played the obvious two ATCWR and EWS this one is far FAR superior

  • @wimpyliberalbuster32 Hell yeah man, you hit the nail right on the fkn head....awesome song and yes most of whats out there now is so generic and sad.....and yes micheal is jammin his ass off on this one!!!! Band as a whole is just rippin...THESE WERE GOOD DAYS!!!

  • @wimpyliberalbuster32 too bad i didnt see your comment 4 months ago when you wrote it but i agree this song is one of their best

  • @wimpyliberalbuster32 you are one of the few people who's opinion is not completely full of shit! maybe because I agree!

  • David Lee Roth = GREATEST ROCK GOD EVER

Sammy Hagar = AVERAGE IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE

  • Yep. Best song on the album, definitely.

  • definitely the best song on the album. possibly my favorite van halen track

  • Forgot how much I love this song-Takes me back to a pretty face I knew in 86

  • This song just kicks ass

  • Comment removed

  • I could sit here for hours and listen to that snare intro. It's so god damned amazing.

  • Second greatest Van Halen song this one kicks ASS man i love this song so much it is my babby!! Dance the Night away is #1!

    Long live VH

  • First heard this while cruising around in my friends 55 chevy on the 8 track in the mid to late 80's. Friend is gone and the 8 track wore out but I got the 55 and this on my MP3. brings back some great memories

  • @danielfamily1966 nice,i could easily picture doin the same, man.just goin through some cool old V.H. stuff tonight.i cant even listen to the radio these days.i wish i was the program director of my own radio station.id play all the good OBSCURE shit!

  • Absolutely! One of Edward's finest.

  • Epic !! jeebus! checkout 4:16 !!!!!!

  • @tetekofa Hidden track, called Growth

  • Oh man, I wore this cassette out. I must of replayed this song over and over 20 times per day. As a drummer and songwriter, I gravitated to this cut the most from this album. Cool arrangements, harmonies, lyrics, feel and vibe.

Damn miss this period in my life, 17 years old and free as bird.

  • @LeBigMoneyShow I hear ya bro.

Summer 1992 I had this cassette in my car day in and day out. Every song on WACF is a classic IMO. This song is such a rocker.

  • @LeBigMoneyShow feck you must of bin my eira mate do we still have any cssette i know i do and good sound tec nics stack system ya that free of a brid we can fly they just missed the gig landing a bastarsd mind

  • women and children has got to be thier most creative album

  • @bradthepro4rac969 Fair Warning is much more creative

  • I bought this record when it was released at the age of 14 on a family vacation in Portugal ( thoughts i could only hear back Home .. :)

Now hear it for the First Time again .. Never realized how much WHO there is in this song.

  • @zebonaut That is an awesome comment! I was just listening to this tune and thought the same thing about the WHO influence, then I scrolled down to your comment...those were my thoughts exactly, bro!

  • @bareknuckles2u

You´re welcome, pal! I appreciate your appreciation :)

No wonder VH covered the Who´s "Wontbget fooled again" years later!

    Greets from Cologne, Germany

  • Well back in the past......when I was treated so coldly.....my love life was a DAMN disgrace!

  • @Hunkola i think hes saying dying disgrace

  • I've always believed a big reason behind their success was their harmonizing, which they don't do anymore. C'mon you guys- SING again!

  • @Roggiedodgie Agreed! Michael quit farting around with Chicken Foot and mend fences with the guys and get back to kicking b. u. t. t. ! Rock-n-Roll needs you!

  • Eddie i didnt want radio songs this is why i love VH

  • Well, aint life grand when ya finally hit it ??

  • Whomever thumbs down this should have their head examined.

  • Comment removed

  • Christgau and Marsh gave this album a black box....No rating.....Not even one star.......

  • This was one of my favorite VH albums. I saw them on their first three tours and as a garage band in the San Fernando Valley. Good times.

  • This song is a prime example why VH should never record without Michael on backup vocals. He was so awesome it's virtually a moot point.

  • Van Halen, fuckin' amazing!

  • I hear bells ringing I think it's my time to die, guess I was treated so coldly, that 's the reason I was so out of place. (The Wedding march )I am going to be your very a simply mind. tell them Dave love is blind.

  • God I'd love to hear something new to see if they still got it

  • at the end of the song it sounds like they started playing some metal then it stops, that would have been a great tune

  • the intro reminds me of slippin away by dokken. vh kicks ass

  • Great album, I used to stare at this cover with Eddie and the "Shark" and wonder what the hell kind of guitar it was.

  • @TallonIV776V That ain't no guitar it's a machine that rips the flesh off your bones then sometimes gently puts it back.

  • great hamonys and hard rock

  • This album will knock you down help you up then strap you to a rocket going a million miles per hour.

  • Just like Diamond Lee once said --- put a Van Halen album in your collection and all the other records will melt

  • hear beatles in there.

  • I want to be yours in a simple rhyme!!!!!!! Perfect.

  • One of VH's best songs along with lighting up the sky

  • I must say that this is the most enjoyable Van Halen's albums, especialy the last ones. Really good work in this one.

  • Been that way for a long long time

  • not bad

  • Oh man - I remember we were still jerkin' off on Kiss and AC/DC back in Jr. High when they released this record and we were like - WTF?

Who the HELL are these guys??

Then they RULED the radio and our minds for the next 4 years.....

This was their 'Break Out' album - Romeo Delight, Take Your Whiskey Home and this song have become my favorites off this one.....

Thanks for a great post VanHalen765!

    Many great memories here.....

  • My Favorite Album of all time.

  • van halens ultimate underrated song! and one of there best out of many

  • a Van Halen love song -

    14558

  • This is one of the coolest "unknown" VH gems of all time.......all the classic Halen signatures are showcased in this song........Eddie's fiery playing and gentle interlude, Mike & Alex holding down a thunderous rhythm, and David Lee's brilliant use of imagery and vocal acrobatics........the mighty Van Halen at their best !!

  • no music like this anymore ,,,BUT WE LIVED IT !! WERE A LUCKY GENERATION!!

  • Great tune from a great album!! VH at their best. I 'd like to point out that both solists Eddie + David were excellent, but in my opinion it was the rhythm base Alex + Michael who made VH really great. Not being a musician myself I find the bass lines simply superb and original, mostly carrying the harmony whilst Eddie was busy driving his guitar crazy.

  • Michael was a musical rocket booster. His soaring vocals and rapid fire bass lines were unique and always distinctive. Imagine VH without him back then? Would they have made the grade in quite the same way?

  • @NYVoice I think not... Good looking out on giving MA his props. (Think about VH then without him??? I am unable to TOLERATE VH without him :(

  • @19franken95 Eddie plays all music (including drums) on every studio recording VH ever did.

  • @vastplumber Eddie never played drums on VH albums but he did play bass on a few of the older and the entire VH3 album and the 3 new ones they did with Sammy.

  • @vastplumber Nope
