Awesome! Perfect cure for a bad mood, you can't help but be laughing by the end of this. Best of all is, almost 50 years later its pretty much just like the original recording. In 50 years hand Lady GaGa a guitar and a mic and see how she does. I hope I can play like this when I am their age.
Like it? I WORSHIP it! My crew and I are about your ages, scattered all over the country, and I WISH we could get together and whoop it up this way. Wunnerful!
I met these guys at a party in Flint Mi in the early 60s they were playing at Contos Lounge back then they played Fender Guitars hence Fendermen, this is a take off
One of the great rock-a-billy songs. The guitars are mind-boggling. I understand mule skinners don't skin mules but drive mules and take care of them.
2 years ago this only had 2k views! 85K and climbing! This is a classic!!!! Yes these are the boys that made this big in the 60's!!! Who can't at least chuckle a little on this tune!!!
I grew up on this song, although I was only born in 1970. My uncle and my dad knew what was cool. He had this in the jukebox. You guys still sound great.
YOU GUYS STILL ROCK! I want all my old pals to see this amazing video. Whoooo-Hoooooo.... You make your mamas proud! I'm a great-grandmother, and can still rock out to this song.......thanks to you!
Just two guitars, one voice, and a great rendition of an old country standard. Mule Skinner Blues was never quite the same after the Fendermen made their recording. It became the gold standard for any cover that followed.
What a great "discovery". Bought this record when it came out and it started me off on a musical career that still continues. Mad, unique version that most of my friends (way back) THOUGHT was a joke. Never magined I'd ever see the ORIGINAL again - thanks Jim and Phil...
This video is the coolest and I remember when the original came out. I'm glad to have found this on you tube and have played it for my 2 grown sons who love it as much or more than I do!! Even my little granddaughter was dancing around with non-stop laughter!
Fantastic! You guys didn't miss a note! One of the very best guitar based songs from the 50s. I had the 45 single in my collection. Now how about recording "Mule Skinner Blues 2010" and releasing it?
back when rock-n-roll was really just about kids having clean fun &dancing. It ddint have to be dirty, or tech enhanced or multi-tracked. Wow what the heck happened?
Really wonderful! I have the original italian 45 rpm and I listen to them and other great songs of the 50s and 60s in my youth for so many tomes...Great! I thank you so much! I put it in my blog for the joy of my friends!
Is my mammas favorite song.. I can remember this being one of the first songs I listened to.. I wore the 45 out I played it so much... I recently found a 45 at an atique show and purchased it to give to my mom for her birthday.. she is now 64 years ol.. and listening to the Fenderman Play this song took her back to her young years for a little while.. Made me feel good..!!
Its my favorite version as well but, it was written by Jimmie Rodgers and first recorded by him on July 11, 1930 / Victor Records 23503 / Los Angeles, California.
The first verse the song is similar to Tom Dickson's 1928 recording "Labor Blues"
try out the cramps version which you can find if you type in "mule skinner blues" into the search bar, ie with gap after mule: its different but in keeping w/the spirit!
I first heard this song when I was in the army stationed in Ft. Bliss TX. in 1960...It played on every juke box in El Paso TX...It helped me get thru that time of my life and I enjoyed it a lot! thanks Guys...you still sound GREAT!!!
This was my all-time favorite song. I went to see you play 3 times at the Monteray Ballroom
in Owatonna, Minn. with Bill Diehl from WDGY. I totally wore out 3 original 45's. I wish someone would post your original version of 'Don't You Just Know It'. Thanks again for the incredible sound of a memory. You still sound GREAT!!!
What a GREAT song !!!! Every time I heard it, starting way back in the early sixties, it brought a big smile to my face and watching you guys for the first time brought an even bigger smile. Thanks for all the smiles guys!!!!
Thank you for posting this vid! Now I can die in peace. Total classic, one of a kind song. I would love to know the history of how it came to be. First heard this when I was 14. The other neighborhood guys thought The Fendermen were car repair guys. Not me boy, I knew freekin' immediately Fender meant a guitar! and probably a 3 pick up Strat. My friends were sooo lame. Wolfman Jack used to howl along to this on XERF in ole' Del Rio. Well, thanks a bunch. GL

I met Phil at my end of enlistment party at the Great Lakes naval base 20 years ago. He was with the bad that was playing at the club. When he got up and did Mule Skinner I nearly fell out of my chair. He's a great entertainer and one seriously cool guy. He was even kind enough to write to me later. Needless to say finding this video was a thrill.
