I love this movie and it kinda gets me thinking that he knows alot about the body like its weak points and where to strike to get the maximum effect. So if you were a doctor wouldnt it help you alot knowing about the body. And i know someone who is a third degree black belt and said that one of those moves (the one where he strikes the ears) could completely make it so you couldnt move imagine getting hit with all of those.
Director of photography Philippe Rousselot used a special high-speed digital camera specifically to film the Punchbowl fight sequence. The key moment where Holmes punches his opponent's jaw, was filmed one second in real-time and turned into a seven-second shot without additional post-production aid.
In the stories, Holmes is described to be an expert in Baritsu. In the film however, the martial art that Holmes used is the Wing-Chun Kung Fu (famously used by Ip Man and Bruce Lee). Robert Downey Jr. is a practitioner of the art in real-life and the fight scene between him and David Garrick at Punchbowl Pit was coordinated with the help of his trainer.
Some people who I am not connected with have organised a petition that Jeremy Brett be posthumously awarded a BAFTA award. For those who don't know, this is the British Academy for Film, Television and Arts; and some people feel Brett was passed over for selection in his own lifetime.
First: Distract Target, then: block his blind jab. Counter with cross to left cheek; discombobulate. Dazed, he will attempt wild haymaker; employ elbow block and body shot. Block Ferreau Left. Weaken right jaw, now fracture. Break cracked ribs, traumatize Solar Plexus, dislocate jaw entirely. Heel kick to diaphragm. In summary: ears ringing, jaw fractured, three ribs cracked, four broken, diaphragm haemmoraging. Physical recovery: 6 weeks. Psychological recovery: 6 months.
@mogbilay That's the joke of it. He like the part where he hit the guy. Well, he hit the guy the whole video! So the humor lies in that fact. Subtle, but very funny. I lol'd at that comment.
That discombobulate move is pure nonsense. It leaves you open to a vicious counter. Who the hell does that? F'in guy ritchie doesn't know what he's doing.
@footballer010 That's because real fighting isn't very cinematic. Ritchie needed to make it a little bit flashy, so you got the old "discombobulate" move. Just be glad he didn't make Holmes assume the crane stance and deliver a spinning heel kick to the head.
@footballer010 actually, discombobulating someone in a fight is probably the best move you can make, and it doesnt leave you open depending on what u have done before the move. sherlock holmes both blinded him and fractured his jaw. by the time he cupped the ears, the guy was discombobulated already. so ritchie guy does actually kno wut he's talking about
