In a perfect world, this song should have been huge, if not huger than Electric Avenue. This song died WAAAYYYYY too fast midway through the summer '84.
Michael Douglas produced the first film, Robert Zemeckis directed, I can't imagine why they distanced the song from the film, ultimately. I taped the video when the scenes were in the clip, so I didn't know anything about any controversy, to be honest. Alan Silvestri credited with the score, Dean Cundey (RIP) the cinematography
@ChrisBDinomite I was thinking of someone else, who was a cinematographer and passed away. However, a lot of great actors and professionals did die in recent years. The Show Must Go on.
There was a snippet of this song in the scene at the marijuana baron's mansion, but that was the only place it was in the movie. They could have had it on the end credits, but it wasn't appropriate for the opening. But Eddy was really angry at the movie company for shorting out his thunder--even though the song was a radio hit and sold records. I still have my 45!
Also on Friday Night Videos, the NBC version of MTV for a while...miss that most! I just got the LaserDisc of it, and I noted the credits...COULD have faded into it, actually
My distinct pleasure in being the first to post. Been wondering about this one whenever I see the movie on the grid. I saw it once back in the day before the song was cut from the soundtrack(legal issues? politics?) and the video reconceived. Thanks.
