Racking up the highest rate of spending when compared to GDP is invasive. Slaughtering 6 million pigs and paying farmers to destroy good crops while people starve is invasive.
@robnaro Still not as deep as true socialism would have been. I think the New Deal was more of a compromise in order to save capitalism. Especially when we consider that during the first years of the Roosevelt administration there were rebellions and the communism to worry about.
@robnaro Not really preventing it. More like trying to lessen it's negative affects. Not to mention trying to remedy the negative effects of Capitalism (for example, a little thing called the Great Depression). Capitalism was not going to pull us of that slump cause no one was gonna spend any money, since they didn't have any. It was up to the government to pick up the slack on economic activity. It isn't about preventing capitalism since capitalism.

The historian doesn't address the role of centralized banks or the Gold Standards. Brenton Woods Agreement was dissolved in 1971 by Nixon.
Keynesian economics is not possible without a Centralized bank. It has lead to government growth on a unprecedented rate.
No great Nation historically has remained great by using fiat currency.
Not one. Fiat currency (Obamonopoly money), when people loose faith in the currency (not real money) destroys societies.
