Well, BG & Pierre Gauther REALLY believe in this kid because they kept him. I guess we'll see how Price responds to this next year. The question isn't his talent but it's his attitude/mental game. However, it seems like the veterans put him in his place and Price finally realized he has to work HARDER to have success at this level. The expectations are so high on him because we've seen him play at an elite level (0.920%+). He actually had a decent save % (0.912) without even trying.

Bob Gainey rushed him into the NHL. He wasn't ready at all. The kid got overwhelmed playing in a big city and didn't have a proper role model. He had WAY TOO MUCH PRESSURE on him and he should've been in the AHL for a longer time. I'm glad Gainey finally brought in character guys like Gionta, Cammy, etc to help him.
I'm happy that Price finally realized he can't coast on talent alone and that he wants to have success at this level (the NHL), he needs to work a lot harder.

Carey Price is a talentless dumb kid who will never amount to nothing in the NHL. He is a weak minded failure who looks like a shrimp and who does not belong in the NHL. Price is overrated and by far one of the worst goalers in the NHL also stats don't lie.
@athlete705: Carey Price has accomplished more in his young career in the biggest hocket market in the world than you could ever dream of. He has the size, the skill set, the composure and the winning resume to be one of the best if just have some god damn patience. His lateral movement, rebound control, his reading of the play are excellent for the most part but of course still needs to work on his consistency and 60-minute focus. Don't be mistaken, the kid knows himself how good he can be.
I feel bad for Price. He makes 40 saves on 42 shots against a top 5 team in the conference (Buffalo) and STILL loses! He went head-to-head with Ryan Miller, the best goalie in the league, and I thought he was even better than Miller. It seems like whenever Carey is in net, they are either shut-out, or only score 1 or 2 goals. It's almost impossible to expect him to win every game 2-1 or 1-0. That's too small for a margin of error.
That's why his W-L record is very, very deceiving.

I hope you Price haters watched him play vs. San Jose last night. He made two highlight-reel glove stops on Dany Heatley and another beauty save on Pavelski's breakaway (note that Halak never stop any breakaways!).
There's a reason why Price was drafted 5th overall. The kid's raw talent is unreal! Basically, on a whole other level when he's confident.
I also hope you Price haters watched Halak's last performance against Philly. He gave up 5 goals in regulation (mostly on terrible rebounds) before being pulled. Halak is honestly more streaky than Price ever was, it seems he either gets a shut-out or lit up like a Christmas tree. A goalie who flops around with poor technique/rebound control (like Halak) can be hot for a season or two, but his game will usually go down the drain in the long run (see Tim Thomas).
I hope you Price haters just watched the preliminary Canada-US game. An "elite" goalie like Martin Brodeur let in 4 goals on 22 shots! How pathetic.
If Price had a decent team in front of him, his numbers would be ridiculous. The guy knows how good he can be when he plays to his abilities. When Price is giving the opposition the stare-down and doing his cocky celebrations, that's when you know he's confident!
Confidence makes a big difference in the goaltender position.

Prior to his injury, Price was SO COCKY. You saw all his arrogant celebrations (usain bolt) and the swagger about him. Price knows how good he can be (his technique and fundamentals are VERY GOOD!), and even the biggest Price haters realize how much raw talent the kid has. The RDS announcers admitted when Price is on his game, he is amazing.
@empreur84, Halak is playing relatively well at the Olympics, but guess what? In the biggest game of his life (bronze medal game), Halak felt the PRESSURE and he and the rest of Team Slovakia had a collective melt-down and blew the bronze away. Surprise surprise. i.e. Halak hasn't proven himself in big games. It'd be a mistake to trade Price at 22.
If the anti-Price haters get what they want and Price gets traded, I def. think Halak will crumble. I seriously think he was already feeling it...

Price stood up most of the time (wasn't down on his knees early), challenged the shooter, fought through screens/traffic on the PK (two 5-on-3's!), made a great save on a 3-on-1 odd-man rush and even had to time to hurdle jump over an incoming player on a breakaway. He looked very relaxed and confident out there.
Why are people so hung up on Price , i will never understand , the guy is simply not NHL material ... a team like Montreal , cant afford to wait for him to "MATURE" , its just insane , to think that after 3 years in the NHL , that he will suddenly become a franchise goal tender , i just dont see it !

Amazing game by Price tonight against Nashville, 53 saves on 55 shots. Set a franchise record with that performance. He's a great goalie, if only he had some help in front of him, his stats would be much much better. He's gonna be one of the best goalie ever, no doubt

It also means Gainey was DISGUSTED by how the Canadiens' played in the 2nd half of the season. He realized it wasn't the coaches, it was the players themselves. All skill, no work ethic or heart. Let's hope his free agents pay off.
It looks like Bob Gainey totally changed the face of the team. He got rid of his "core" players. He stripped Price of his buddies, Komisarek and Higgins. He wants to see progress in the Kostitsyn's, Price, MaxPac, etc and wants to surround them with players with a better work ethic (Gionta). He's taking a gamble by overpaying via free agency. This means Gainey LOST FAITH in his core of players. It's too bad, he wanted to do it the right way: draft and develop but they let him down.

Halak gets beat up high a lot because he's small. I do recall he replaced Price in game 4 last year against Philly and he didn't really do much better than Price. Montreal still lost that game despite outshooting Philly. Biron was just unbelievable that series.

The guy is 21. Of course he's inconsistent. He still has a lot of raw potential. Everyone was raving about Steve Mason and his numerous shutouts for Columbus during the regular season but guess what he faltered in the playoffs against Detroit! Let in a lot of soft goals too. Some goalies need more time to develop than others. Mental toughness is another underrated aspect of the playoffs and it is also important for playing in a Canadian market. Montreal is BY FAR the biggest stage in hockey.....
So the Habs lose the series... you need something to blame it on...right? so you blame the kid that actually carried them through the season last year... and that had to deal with his lazy defencemen this year. What did you expect this kid to do? Miracle saves one after another while his offensive players do sh*t all on the other side of the ice? He struggled just like Price did this year and last year. Goalies take time to come into their own. Yeah stats don't lie. Like his WJC title and Calder Cup and MVP. Those don't lie. Plus, his first two season in the NHL, not bad at all.
You're judging him based on one bad season.
If Pitt had judged MAF so harshly, they would have dealt him after his first 2 shaky seasons in the league.
He's one of the best technical goalies in the league, easily.

I hope you Price haters watched him play vs. San Jose last night. He made two highlight-reel glove stops on Dany Heatley and another beauty save on Pavelski's breakaway (note that Halak never stop any breakaways!).
There's a reason why Price was drafted 5th overall. The kid's raw talent is unreal! Basically, on a whole other level when he's confident.

I also hope you Price haters watched Halak's last performance against Philly. He gave up 5 goals in regulation (mostly on terrible rebounds) before being pulled. Halak is honestly more streaky than Price ever was, it seems he either gets a shut-out or lit up like a Christmas tree. A goalie who flops around with poor technique/rebound control (like Halak) can be hot for a season or two, but his game will usually go down the drain in the long run (see Tim Thomas).

I hope you Price haters just watched the preliminary Canada-US game. An "elite" goalie like Martin Brodeur let in 4 goals on 22 shots! How pathetic.
If Price had a decent team in front of him, his numbers would be ridiculous. The guy knows how good he can be when he plays to his abilities. When Price is giving the opposition the stare-down and doing his cocky celebrations, that's when you know he's confident!
Confidence makes a big difference in the goaltender position.

The biggest thing with Price is his confidence.
Prior to his injury, Price was SO COCKY. You saw all his arrogant celebrations (usain bolt) and the swagger about him. Price knows how good he can be (his technique and fundamentals are VERY GOOD!), and even the biggest Price haters realize how much raw talent the kid has. The RDS announcers admitted when Price is on his game, he is amazing.

@empreur84, Halak is playing relatively well at the Olympics, but guess what? In the biggest game of his life (bronze medal game), Halak felt the PRESSURE and he and the rest of Team Slovakia had a collective melt-down and blew the bronze away. Surprise surprise. i.e. Halak hasn't proven himself in big games. It'd be a mistake to trade Price at 22.
If the anti-Price haters get what they want and Price gets traded, I def. think Halak will crumble. I seriously think he was already feeling it...

Oh and Price's last game against Philly....he finally started looking like his normal self and the version we saw just a few months ago in November!
Price stood up most of the time (wasn't down on his knees early), challenged the shooter, fought through screens/traffic on the PK (two 5-on-3's!), made a great save on a 3-on-1 odd-man rush and even had to time to hurdle jump over an incoming player on a breakaway. He looked very relaxed and confident out there.

Syllandry, you must be BLIND. You can't see Price's great technique? Good rebound control? Great lateral movement? Patience on odd-man rushes/breakaways for the most part? Size advantage? Puck handling? Do you really think it was a fluke that he stopped Alex Ovechkin on 2 breakaways in the same game? The raw talent is there.
Of course, Price has to work on his 60-minute focus, 5-hole and glove hand (which has improved recently) but his technique/skill set >>> Halak's.

Syllandry, how old are you? Did you watch the game tonight? Halak was pulled, he allowed 5 goals on 17 shots. He's now had 3 sub-par outings in a row (which is the reason why they went back to Price against Washington!). Halak's terrible rebound control/lateral movement was exposed by Philly.
I think Halak is a decent enough goalie who was simply on a HOT streak for a few games. He does NOT have the physical tools/technique/size of Price and never will. No amount of "hard work" will fix that.

I'm old enough to look a the stats Mr. know it all , and not base my opinion on a few games, just look at the stats... since Halak vs Price exist and notice that Halak has slighty better numbers and a better offensive"support" play , Price does show more potential but it's lagging a little to much for comfort !!! and that reflects also on overall team performance .

Sure, Halak is playing good right now but can he keep this up? He's a smaller, unorthodox goalie like Tim Thomas who gives up a lot of rebounds. Thomas is now being outplayed by the younger, bigger and more technical Rask (sound familiar?)!

Trust me, if the MTL media run Price out of town at age 22, and Gainey is stupid enough to trade him, we'll be losing a franchise goalie.
Then you wonder why we have no stars in Montreal. And worse, if Halak proves to be another Huet (Halak is SOOO streaky, he either gets a shut-out or gets lit up like a X-mas tree!), the franchise will be screwed. Or if he bolts to the KHL.

It looks like Bob Gainey totally changed the face of the team. He got rid of his "core" players. He stripped Price of his buddies, Komisarek and Higgins. He wants to see progress in the Kostitsyn's, Price, MaxPac, etc and wants to surround them with players with a better work ethic (Gionta). He's taking a gamble by overpaying via free agency. This means Gainey LOST FAITH in his core of players. It's too bad, he wanted to do it the right way: draft and develop but they let him down.

the guy is only 21. give him a few years to come into his own. MAF took a while before he became legit in the playoffs too and that was in pittsburgh. meanwhile, carey plays under the most pressure in montreal and ppl are expecting him to be patrick roy at 21. it's a tough league. if habs fans run him out of town, they'll regret it. he has a lot of potential, he proved it at the world juniors, AHL, etc. now it's a matter of him proving it in the NHL playoffs. Halak is composed with pressure? How would you know? Did you not watch him yesterday at the World's tournament? He let in 5 goals and then got replaced. All goalies have strengths and weaknesses. Halak gets beat up high a lot because he's small. I do recall he replaced Price in game 4 last year against Philly and he didn't really do much better than Price. Montreal still lost that game despite outshooting Philly. Biron was just unbelievable that series.

The guy is 21. Of course he's inconsistent. He still has a lot of raw potential. Everyone was raving about Steve Mason and his numerous shutouts for Columbus during the regular season but guess what he faltered in the playoffs against Detroit! Let in a lot of soft goals too. Some goalies need more time to develop than others. Mental toughness is another underrated aspect of the playoffs and it is also important for playing in a Canadian market. Montreal is BY FAR the biggest stage in hockey.....

Chris Mason is old. You mean Steve Mason from CBJ. And guess what Steve wasn't so great against the Red Wings either this year in the playoffs. He struggled just like Price did this year and last year. Goalies take time to come into their own. Just ask MAF....ppl (mostly French media) were saying he was a bust for years and he finally turned it around and led that team to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Sure he's inconsistent,but he's also 21 years old. Every player has slumps.The thing with Carey is that when he's on,and he'll get it back, championships happen.Has for the going down to early that's a confidence issue. He doesn't feel fast enough to react so he's cheating.There's a young goalie out there who had his troubles when he came into the league,then he took his team to the finals last year.Give the kid a break and some support. The fact is he WILL lift the cup one day,lets make it here

AS a die-hard Habs fan,I can honestly say that Carey Price is not the answer for our team.He's way too inconsistent.Everybody know,shoot high on Price,he goes down way too soon.

I'm getting sick of everybody trashing Price. The only reason he's playing so bad is because he wants to be traded. I don't blame him considering the lack of dicipline and support they show for the guy.
