Impressive technology, I would love to have this for long trips on the freeway. But when it comes to parking, learn how to parallel park! It's not that hard with a little practice...
oh yeah like somone would need one those Intelligent Parking Assist people should be intelligent to backup somthing thats 5 ft wide and 11 ft long. cars are so small you need to do it by yourself ive backed up truck+trailers before, if you would need one of whose things have it on semis.
But I personally hate it, as well as most automatic stuff, like automatic gearbox!
I'm not interested to pay extra cash for stuff I like to control myself, because it is by controlling those what gives me pleasure to drive in the first place!!
Hmm, Prius', manual-stuff and pleasures to drive... Na, you don't buy a Prius as a 'drivers' machine, it's techie through and through, so 'Bring on the Gadgets', I'd say!
I think I have the best of both worlds: 2004 Prius for the family, 1996 MGF for my driving pleasure :)
@carlover2013 i agree,,,and toyota's parking assists is very complicated, i'd rather park it my own..for Ford its so simple just press the parking assist button then it'll park itself, no more centering or pressing Ok button whatsoever...
@TJPewter. Thailand is the manufacturing place for ASEAN Prius. But in Thailand version which been announced on Nov 16, this option was not included. Including Solar Roof and GPS Navigation. That why most of Thai friend I know will NOT buy this stupid version.
Is it available in the Prius III? Does it cost extra? How about the cameras on the sides of the mirrors that help you stay in the lane is that extra and is it available in the Prius III?
@bedfordv Hang on you can get better, you can get all Lexus hybrid models with these features as standard, you can get the camry hybrid or a skoda yeti which is a vw and you'll need to know you're driving a shit mobile that copied everything from toyota and honda.
@gamer7790 i find it very offending that you say that asians can't drive; even though my parents drive mercedes Benz's and that they both have clean driving licences
@subzero92MK you're right specially for women, but it still needs command and use of the gas and brake pedals and for that thing they still needs little more brains. ;)
this is pretty innovative... but honestly, i think people should be able to park in for themselves... they should just have a warning alert if your are too close to another car to discourage parking accidents...
So if turning a wheel to parallel park is beyond some people they can instead choose to buy this car with a feature that'll further automate their lives. Fucking ingenious.
@stevenwhite2010 I AGREE. I WAS IN MY FRIENDS MOM PRIUS AND SHE WAS PARRALELL PARKING AND THE THING WAS GOING "BEEP, BEEP, BEEP!" IT GETS SO ANNOYING!

think of all the people who have to wait behind you because you are preparing to park, gotta set coordinates of wheel landings, verify directions blah blah all this crap u can just park yourself...
Prius is much better than other cars. But I agree with some folks out there. Drive should always practice parking whenever there is chance. Technology is for just assistance only, auto pilot mode in plane. They can takeover your steering. That way drivers can learn from the system. Remember, we can't rely on tech 100%
unintended acceleration kills, protect our childern and know the facts about toyotas unintended acceleration and what too do if your toyota races out of control, god bless the usa
If you can't park a car, you don't belong in the driver's seat. It's a cool application of technology - great flash factor. But the thought that a driver would actually rely on this is frightening. We're creating a new level of moron.
This car has some great features, and I think this is one of the best features to come to a car. I am a person who is a good parker, but there are days were I really don't feel like doing the work of parking, so this system would be great. For those people who say this system sucks well just don't buy this car and don't waste your time watching these types of videos. At least this car maker is trying to ease driving experience
It's far older than that - it was an option on the japanese market Prius back in 2004 allready, then it came to Lexus which brought it to the western world with some success. Several different makers have had this on the option list since then.
Real cool for the ladys but iam still not sure if there will be less damage to my truck or more if some dummy dosent break when showing off to there girlfriends ~~~~
Isn't the point of this vehicle to preserve fuel? Fuel is best preserved by reducing weight. Automatic systems like this silly self parking weigh a lot. Before people buy into this, they should learn how to drive properly - incl. parking - and drive smaller and lighter cars with FEWER gimmicks.
20 years ago there were cars on the market in Europe that had the same or better mileage as a prius without all the high tech. The industry would stop cater to lazy people, incapable of any manual task.
The point of this vehicle (along with every other production vehicle) is transportation. This gimmick is no worse than cruise control or any other OPTION.
Why don't you start walking and quit your complaining.
Yeah, leave away the OPTIONS. Learn how to do tasks yourself. You will be surprised how it stimulates the brain. Walking is a good idea once in a while, too.
For fuel efficiency every kilo counts. I once removed all the little "helpers" from a car to weigh them (I'm a mechanic). In my case it was over 150kg. Stuff like power windows, power locks, parking system need more stuff then you actually think.
Also, If people would learn how to manually shift a vehicle another 200kg could be saved.
If you can't park a vehicle yourself you should seriously think about giving your driver license back.
The whole "automatization" is slowly getting ridiculous.
also, i think that automatic shifting is great because of the fact all you need is one foot and one hand, instead of two feet and two hands. its just a lot less work when driving especially in traffic and when you have to accelerate and then slow down
Anybody who can't even park their vehicle shouldn't even have a license.
It's incredibly easy.
And you think when you get stopped behind someone about to parallel park NOW it's slow? Wait until someone in front of you stops to p-p then has to push a bunch of buttons and let the car do the work.
So, the computers in this thing can steer, they can accelerate, decelerate and brake (the dynamic cruise control), they can tell you when you are leaving your lane. I suspect it is only legal liability left as the last hurdle for "Auto Drive."
When I first heard about this, I thought it was a great work saver, but looking at this video, its way too much work. I agree that its a lot quicker just to do the parking myself. Anyone who thinks that this is easier than parking the car themselves, probably shouldn't have their license.
Yes, but it is cool to show off....but I do not believe that it is worth paying a few extra thousand for a show off feature. I rather put the money towards the built in GPS, sound system, etc.
Very useless feature. I can park my car, get out, and lock it instead of messing with all those buttons. And if you park any quicker than what is "safe". It'll just cancel the whole sequence.
I have to agree, this is a novel idea but if I were to use this to paralell park in center city Philadelphia I would have traffic backed up for 2 blocks by the time I went through all the settings to make sure I parked correctly, easier to just park it yourself.
what a strange and unnecessary feature.
