It would be great to have a DVD of instructional lessons on These Moments, Cold Day, and En T'Attedant! Or really you could just do all of your tunes, they are all incredible.
I would like to know the technique that you use on ashes in the sea when you hit the slap harmonics then do a pull off on the strings and still let the harmonics ring out. That is so sick!!!!! Thanks.
If you are going to do a dvd, i would like to see wapus, existence, development, naissance. Those are verygreat songs. I think just going over yourfundamental techniques would be great!
hi... i'm from Argentina... and the thing is that we don't have teachers who plays this style on acoustic guitar... and is very difficult to find a dvd teaching step by step how to develop your stile of playing and others like andy mc kee... so teach us please...

If you made an instructional DVD with techniques (as in proper form, along with slap harmonics, etc.), exercises, and a few songs, I'd buy it and I'd encourage every guitarist I know to buy it too. Just my two cents. Thanks for making such amazing music, you are truly inspirational.

today I'm gonna buy a thumpick and I will try this to practice first. Then, I would play 'jerry's breakdown' as you already showed in a video with gauthier =P really really thanks! you and andy mckee are my idols xP keep the good work buddy! =) cheers
What affordable ( I'm not wealthy ) guitar would you recommend?
I've got two acoustic guitars, a Fender Gemini and an Encore GS composite body, but I don't get the sound that I really want from either of them. One was a present and the other an impulse buy because it had built in pick ups ( now I'm showing my age )... they both sound thin and weedy, so if you cold suggest a good buy for around £250 I'd be 'all ears' .
There are some good art & lutherie (sp?) guitars that have really nice tone for around $300. They don't have any finish on them, so they're prone to scratching, but it gives them more resonance and makes the tone deeper and more unique. Try it out!
i have an art & lutherie CW semi electric, it is amazing i love the tone and play it like crazy. i've started to wear out the finish on the neck from all the playing i do on it. im going to save up for a stonebridge acoustic 23CR, they are the best acoustics i've every played.
Thanks Antoine! It would be great if you could have a double DVD. One with techniques and instruction on how to become a great guitarist like yourself and maybe an another which breaks down your songs so we can see your technique in practice? Thank you!
For an instructional DVD an intro to your style of playing with real basics of your technique and in depth breakdowns of the techniques would be good. Slowly getting more and more complex and advanced, its a dvd so people can always rewatch things. I play a lot of guitar and understand a lot of theory so this wouldn't need to be explained but i still admire your technique and i find it very difficult to pick up after years of a different style of playing, Love your work, keep it up, thanks, Matt
Hey Antoine. Would have been very nice if you added instructions and tutorials to the various techniques you use in your songs. Like the double slapping thing with your right hand, the gold rain, and so on. That would really help to understand the techniques completely. This will not only help me to play your songs better, but it will also help alot in my own compositions:) Thanks:)
Hey Antoine could you possibly do a little tutorial on Song for Stephen? That song is one of my favorites standing beside Andy Mckee's Rylynn and Tommy Emmanuel's Angelina. Funny how they're all dedicated to a special person ... :)
I really do appreciate you taking the time to post these instructional videos. I have always used my index and thumb fingers to pick. Not anymore! Do you ever incorporporate your pinky finger? Thanks
Thanks a lot for this video. Many instructional videos don't show you the stuff in a slowed down tempo which can be a drag sometimes since you have to play it by ear, really great that you do that. thanks!
About the DVD. It would be nice a instructional video of the Trilogie song. If it's not possible, just the harmonic parts in the beggining and the slapping in the end would be coooool.
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence books... Steve Vai t-shirt... Not to mention all the amazing music I've heard from you the last few years... Excellent!
These technics, how often would you say are used in your music, I have been already practicing all of them. Also are they in anyway in any combination, used in any of your music together?
Antoine,Greetings this is very helpful, it truly explains to me those certain tricks (or skills) that I would not have figured out on my own. thanks for the work you are doing, in helping others (beginners) like myself
Hey Antoine, recently discovered your music right on You Tube, and it's great stuff, not just good but really great stuff. I am seriously interested in this fingerstyle (or tapping) of playing. I also am a novice at best, but, would love to learn your music, one in perticular is "Catch The Light", my favorite so far! Would you consider putting that song on your DVD tutoral? thanks for your endeavors to teach others!!!
Rather than lessons on how to play your songs like many ask, I really dig the techniques you use. I've been playing a lot of Andy Mckee songs and some of yours now too. All these different tunings! It would be helpful to know your creative process when dealing with these tunings. Thx for the info you have given thus far, it really has helped.
Awesome lesson. Many thanks. I noticed that you played a lot in open tunings. When your DVD comes out I will be one of the first to purchase one. Keep up the great art.
Love the stuff so far, but perhaps some more indepth stuff on good tone production and close ups, maybe some excercises for the RH as well to exercise better tone as well.
I know it's very late, but if you are still taking suggestions for your DVD, the parts of "A Hiding Place for the Moon" using tapping and harmonics would be great stuff to add.
Hey, Antoine how old are you? Are you like 30? And you started playing guitar when u where 15? Then I can be just as good as you when I' m your age! =D I' m 15 now and I can play For my Father (Andy Mckee) and Glimmer of Hope (Antoine Dufour) and it wasn't hard at all! =D Yay! I see my future!
hey Antoine, if you ever get around to making your guitar DVD or if you're already in the process of making it, I hope it's not too late to ask for some instruction on your rhythmic tapping sections to both "Inspirations" and "As in the Sky". Both songs have some really interesting tapping sections.
Heey Antione.. big fan of your music and i recently bought a guitar myself!
Though all the ''expirienced'' guitar players would like you to teach them cool stuff and all, i would really appreciate it if you took some time for the really beginning guitar players, couse i'd say a large portion of your fans are still beginning and we would love for our hero to give us some biginning excercises and stuff.
I'll deffinetly buy it if it has some ''beginning'' guitar stuff on it!
Beginner guitar lessons can be found anywhere. Just search around youtube
The main reason people would be buying antoine's DvD would be to gain a little of his expertise, hes very very talented in playing the guitar in somewhat obscure ways. We're looking to learn his songs and techniques, not chords, stroking patterns, and scales.
Correct, the main reason...to gain a little of his expertise. Though the original point remains. People with heros have a passion to do what they can to emulate. Beginners have an unclouded if somewhat naive passion. To quench that by sending beginners all to the same schooling is absurd and unforgiveable. People who WANT to play like Antoine want to do so BECAUSE he plays DIFFERENTLY and EXPERTLY. A good demo so far Antoine! Some good basics and pic angles. I recommend broad scope-from easy up.
Dude i have a really dificulty time with the timing of Ashes in the Sea, i can't do the bass line and play at the same time, yeah its rythm, wich i dont have lol
Another song i would like to see instructions in your DVD is Song for Stephen, the palm mutes (i think is this the name) sometimes its hard to control, i mean, how you do the palm mute and still let the strings surronding?
If you could show how to do those slap harmonics, and the ones where you just press your finger on it and it makes a harmonic. Show us how to do that!
Since you guys seem pretty tight over at Candyrat, when you make your instructional DVD, could you possibly include some examples of Don Ross' more challenging pieces? Also, I've been working on "Development" for a while and have it down pretty well, but a few parts get sticky. Maybe if you included a slowed down version of several of the main bars that would help. Also...what kind of thumbpick do you use? Thanks.
THANK GOD YOU MADE THIS VID! I have a bunch of your sheet music and love your tunes, but the thumbpick upstroke has always been the adversary. This helps alot.
When you make your instructional DVD I would love it if you included a whole section similar to this on thumbpick upstroking.
Hi Antoine, love your songs, love your videos. For the instructional DVD, I personally would like to see more fingerpicking basics. Something on your first video that was helpful: plucking the strings in such a way that they vibrate parallel to the guitar rather than against the guitar. Something I wouldn't have thought about! More stuff like that would be great for a beginner like me.
I can't wait to see your instructional DVD. Please add plenty of beginner videos :] Being an beginner, I have an idea of what types of things newbies struggle with: Smooth chord changes, bar chords, achieving even tone, etc. I'm excited to see what other ideas you come up with.
thanx for the exercises antoine, they've really helped me with some of the songs that i do from u, and also i've put the upstroke thumbpick into some of my own pieces
hey antoine i guess i can say that a lot of your fans out here (including myself) would really appreciate that instructional DVD, i sort of have some problems especially with my right hand jaja... but sincerly man, thanks a whole lot... you have inspired a lot of us who play guitar :D
can anyone help me, I;m trying to learni how to use the thumb pick but i've bought two now, a metal and a plastic and both of them just kept moving when i picked up strummed, it would either slides around my thumb up around it.
Have you got to grip the thumb pick with the index finger as well? Or should it stay still?
if you're still wondering, no you shouldn't grip it with the index finger as well, you've simply got to go out and buy a smaller one. seriously, just find one with a nice fit around your thumb. and i'd recommend plastic over metal. hope that helped.
it would be nice to have an explanation about how to play Memories of the Future with the whole four capoed string and two open ones and working from both sides of the capo. anxiously waiting for some new music from you
I would really like to see some instructional material on the slaps and drumming you do on both the strings and the body! :) I never seem to get them as clear and groovy as you :/
Hey Antoine, can you please update us about the progress your making with your instructional dvd? did you start with it yet? when is it finished? i think you will have lots of buyers!
I'd love to see an instructional dvd. Particularly the main riff at the begining of Ashes in the Sea, and that great stumming technique in 30 Minutes in London.
I would love to see the technique shown for heart of the matter especially right index finger "slap" harmonics. Thank you for your insight into music.
my suggestion is to show us things and exercises that would make your songs come to us with ease, and if you wanted to actually teach the songs, i would suggest reality and scratch
but if i were to heavily suggest anything that would make me very pleased in what i learn from your dvd, it would be exercises that are very challenging that will make fingerstyle songs come with ease if you understand.
you should spen a lot of time teaching us exercises that teach us things that are in your songs, but the exercises should be harder than your msuic parts so that when we learn your songs it comes much easier
im pretty sure u can show us stuff like that, anything u practiced to amke you better adn at the skill you are at now from picking, haromics and tapping the acoustic, etc...
independence between fingers and different rhythms, etc etc
DEQR - Thats a magnetic pick-up he is using to amplify the guitar through an amp. It looks like a Fishman Rare Earth pickup, but I maybe mistaken as there are a few with the same design.

A lesson on 30 Minutes In London would be helpful, as well as a lesson on Memories of the Future.

suggestions for a dvd...some more advanced fingerstyle technique stuff...and how you come to use different tunings and such...
t3rdtp 3 years ago
hey Antoine, if you ever get around to making your guitar DVD or if you're already in the process of making it, I hope it's not too late to ask for some instruction on your rhythmic tapping sections to both "Inspirations" and "As in the Sky".

Chupster91 3 years ago
Beginner guitar lessons can be found anywhere. Just search around youtube
The main reason people would be buying antoine's DvD would be to gain a little of his expertise, hes very very talented in playing the guitar in somewhat obscure ways. We're looking to learn his songs and techniques, not chords, stroking patterns, and scales.
Dgc2003 3 years ago

I love harmonics in guitar playing. :D

Thanks.
johnjkeidel 3 years ago
THANK GOD YOU MADE THIS VID! I have a bunch of your sheet music and love your tunes, but the thumbpick upstroke has always been the adversary. This helps alot.
When you make your instructional DVD I would love it if you included a whole section similar to this on thumbpick upstroking.

I HAVE THAT SHIRT! hahaha
love Vai. he's the reason i became a guitarist.
Fender52604 3 years ago
Hi Antoine, love your songs, love your videos. For the instructional DVD, I personally would like to see more fingerpicking basics. Something on your first video that was helpful: plucking the strings in such a way that they vibrate parallel to the guitar rather than against the guitar. Something I wouldn't have thought about! More stuff like that would be great for a beginner like me.

I can't wait to see your instructional DVD. Please add plenty of beginner videos :] Being an beginner, I have an idea of what types of things newbies struggle with: Smooth chord changes, bar chords, achieving even tone, etc. I'm excited to see what other ideas you come up with.

thanx for the exercises antoine, they've really helped me with some of the songs that i do from u, and also i've put the upstroke thumbpick into some of my own pieces

can anyone help me, I;m trying to learni how to use the thumb pick but i've bought two now, a metal and a plastic and both of them just kept moving when i picked up strummed, it would either slides around my thumb up around it.
Have you got to grip the thumb pick with the index finger as well? Or should it stay still?
TwirlingWood 3 years ago
if you're still wondering, no you shouldn't grip it with the index finger as well, you've simply got to go out and buy a smaller one. seriously, just find one with a nice fit around your thumb. and i'd recommend plastic over metal. hope that helped.

I think maybe a tutorial section on harp harmonics and artificial harmonics, theres a phrase in trilogie that's really difficult to get in time.
Thanks antoine your playing is awesome.

Hey man, thanks for this excellent technique. I will probably use this a lot when messing around. Seriously thank you.
I really want to learn Ashes In The Sea, it's my favorite song of yours. Just anything to help us learn that song would be excellent.
GuitarLife09 3 years ago
my suggestion is to show us things and exercises that would make your songs come to us with ease, and if you wanted to actually teach the songs, i would suggest reality and scratch
but if i were to heavily suggest anything that would make me very pleased in what i learn from your dvd, it would be exercises that are very challenging that will make fingerstyle songs come with ease if you understand.
TruNikkaz 3 years ago
you should spen a lot of time teaching us exercises that teach us things that are in your songs, but the exercises should be harder than your msuic parts so that when we learn your songs it comes much easier
im pretty sure u can show us stuff like that, anything u practiced to amke you better adn at the skill you are at now from picking, haromics and tapping the acoustic, etc...
independence between fingers and different rhythms, etc etc
TruNikkaz 3 years ago
Thank you...you are an awesome player and very, very helpful to those of us starting out:)

DEQR - Thats a magnetic pick-up he is using to amplify the guitar through an amp. It looks like a Fishman Rare Earth pickup, but I maybe mistaken as there are a few with the same design.
MHardez378 3 years ago
on your dvd you should do a step by step on how to play each song. with few camera angles and tabulature on the screen.

I am an idiot for asking I know,...but what is that accross the sound hole?
