Sri Lanka was known as Tambapanni and was established as a kingdom by North Indian prince named Vijaya in 543BC. The Chola empire from South India invaded the kingdom about 338 years later and ruled from 205BC to 161BC. And from then on there had repeated cycles of terrorism from these South Indian monarchs; and after the fall of monarchies in both countries (Sri Lanka and India), the skirmishes continued with the civilians.
