  • @TSquared2001 You know what?...I believe you're right...lol...Southern University, Jackson State, Norfolk State and a few others been goin' ham lately...lol...it will be lovely to see a battle...wouldn't you agree?

  • CHILLS

  • Hey the kid from "Christmas Story" plays the trumpet

  • @cdonon321 KEVIN!!!

  • although we didnt get to finish drill for this in time for POC, it was pretty awesome to perform it today.

  • I'm in high school, and I was at POC yesterday, and I will say this: the Marching Royal Dukes' performance made my freaking year! You guys are AMAZING!

  • I'm in high school, and U

  • I WANT TO GO HERE!

  • I'm so proud to be a Marching Royal Duke!!!! :)

I can't believe we're going to play this again for our closer for show 2!!!! I'm so excited!!!!! :)

    We're not just Virginia's Finest...We're AMERICA'S FINEST!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @SSBBgrl Naww dont know about that. Northwestern state in louisiana would kill yall. Even if they marched with 100 holes.

  • @RABBITBACKER I don't think they would kill them. I say they're about even given the fact that JMU has it's pros and cons, and so does Northwestern state. I think it's kinda hard to compare them, when in the end, marching band in college is about fun. =)

  • MRDs are doing this again for the 2010 Show 2 Closer.

  • @orangeraider07

And it sounds amazing! It's going to look hot this weekend at POC :D

  • this is a serious jaw dropper. WOW!

  • WOW O.O.

    I hear boo's at the end :\

  • @Rudysetgo Those aren't boo's - the crowd is screaming "DUUUUUUUUUKES". JMU's mascot is the Duke.

  • @Rudysetgo Those aren't boo's - the crowd is screaming "DUUUUUUUUUKES". JMU's mascot is the Duke.

  • does anyone know who the drum major in the center is? it looks like someone i know, but i'm not sure.

  • @wannaplaytrmptjmu he actually did march corps. Blue Coats for a couple of years.

  • Best marching band song to play. EVER. 2006 was an AWESOME year for the MRDs and I'd give just about anything to play this song again like we're doing to Malaguena.

  • i think we're doing Firedance for the 2010 season along with a bunch of the other famous concert tunes from years past

  • These guys can park and bark on me ALL DAY, and wouldn't be mad about it at all...LOL

  • Those trumpeters have a nice THICC sound...I am applying what I see here to my baritone...I'll take a thicc sound over a thin puny one any day!!! GREAT CHOPS and I LOVE the finale to this song...

  • GOOD SHIT!!!! I've ALWAYS loved this video!!!! This is MY SHIT!!! lol...

  • the guy that hit the double c would be bender if i'm right

  • yea, dude that guy is ridiculous. He's a scream machine.

  • @bradlovesreskins yep, he's a beast, I still wonder why he didn't go play in a Drum Corp.

  • Tears - man - wow.

  • i love JMU i went to the game when this song went on

  • u guys hav great chops.....especially the guy that hit the clean double c

  • it sounds fine to me too

  • Firedance is not a song to be marched. It's rhythms are too hard and too pure for such a huge an full sound such as the JMU MRDs. But Malaguena on the other hand is a different story.

  • sounds fine to me... but I'm biased. lol. being in the band 'n all lol.

  • JMU is fantastic. They really did a nice job with this song.

  • WTF ever...that shit sounded good...

  • Got....

    Damn....

That gave me that grit face you get when you know something sounds good... you know the one that urgh face.

  • I want to go here!!!

  • No one will ever match Chris McGee "The Trumpet Messiah' of JMU in the earl 80's. :) ... the dude was a complete trumpet monster.

  • Amen to that! I just recently in the trumpet professor's surprise concert and McGee popped a dub C at the end of the last song with all the alumni and current students...sweet

  • 29,999 views....=)

  • I had the privilege to hear the JMU MRD's live in 2004 and 2008 as I am from Montana and we play them in football every now and then. Let me tell you, the Montana marching band holds its own, but no one, not even Michigan, can hold a candle to JMU. They are top notch, among the ranks of Notre Dame and USC

  • Holy crap, that's good.

Maybe I'll go to JMU and be in their marching band. I'm currently in marching band and love it!

  • Oh man.....I miss being in the MRDs so much. This was definitely my favorite song out of all the ones we performed.

    and the crowd's reaction that night........sick :)

  • i play 4 a hbcu but this band go so hard

  • my art teacher is the conductor

  • Great as always JMU

  • OMG! That was outrageous!

  • I hated I came in a year after this show. Malguena was a very close second but I just don't think A Mis Abuelos did it this year. It sounded like a failed attempt to fuse FD and Mala. together. I wasn't there but if this show was better than marching Macy's then it must have been one heck of a show.

  • While I agree that their performance of A Mis Abuelos was as good as this, if you hear the original recording of Arturo Sandoval playing it, A Mis Abuelos is fucking LEGIT.

  • i agree with your thoughts on the excitement levels of each song but there was no "failed attempt" at fusing Firedance and Mala. A Mis is a song of it's own and we do a latin song every year for our concert tune. A Mis was this years. rumor is that FD might be coming back in the 09 season though ;) cross ur fingers...

  • oh my gosh, that last part gave me goosebumps!!!

i've seen them perform live twice. the sound is insane!! love this band

  • JMU is, as usual, ridiculous legit. I love them.

  • That's a huge band! Not bad for the size of the band. I couldn't imagine trying to get a band that size to balance!

  • Oh yeah....and that crowd was SO MUCH louder than what you hear on the video. The noise was literally deafening.

  • yeah man. i heard this in 2007 and the "tried" to fit them on a high school field. loud as HELL!!!!!!!!

  • I've got some awesome memories from being an MRD this year, but for those of us that was in this show, I have to say this was the most unforgettable moment of my MRD career. Macy's Parade 2008 can't even top this one.

  • i hate this arragement, lost everything from the original

but it was still a good performance. why did it sound like the audience were booing?

  • They say duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuukes. It does sound like booooo.

  • oh thanks! =p

  • haha..bender

  • i saw them at Hanover competition 2 weeks ago and they are incredible just not by the sheer number of a college band but just the pure sound this is what i join band for to be in a to produce sound exactly like this

  • i saw them yesterday at an exhibition it was so awesome!! ^.^

  • did u see them at the oakton high competition?

  • yes, it was so beautiful it took my breath away. Simply amazing.

  • i saw them yesterday too they where so cool but some idiot in the stand where booing them even though they where pure genius

  • lol they're not booing them, I saw them yesterday too and they're saying "DUUUUKKKEEEESSS" hahaha

  • i saw them at the parade of champions last week too, they were amazing. their drumline is so good, it's ridiculous.

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I gotta go poopie.

  • that is awsome!!!

  • They sound great...The Sound Machine will be there to rep this weekend!!!It's great for both schools....EAGLE PRIDE!!!

  • GO DUKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • duuuuuuuuuuuukes

  • I could've sworn...this was the biggest crowd reaction I had ever seen in my marching band career.

The crowd was so loud that the trumpets were playing to the mike and I still couldn't hear them play. And I played tuba in that video.

That was seriously the highlight of my MRD career. I don't think Macy's can top this one.

  • wow si que estan peleados con el ritmo y la buena musica jejeje

  • MAAAN! them kats bringing that HEAT! Did you hear that first note! I wonder how they would hold up in the stands against a SWAC band like Southern, J-State, or Bama State.

  • I'm sorry. I marched for NSU, but I'll be the first to say that there isn't an HBCU that could matched sound or clarity with this program.

There is no comparison. I will build a program like this one.......someday

  • I marched in a SWAC band. Not gonna say which one but just know it is ne of the three on the list. Now as far as clarity goes, I don't think a SWAC band could get quite as clear as JMU based off this performance. Volume wise though, a few HBCUs can get with em.

  • if you could hear the Marching Royal Dukes live, you would understand.

  • ALL I KNOW IS NCCU is gonna get theyre ass whooped at this game!!!

  • woo! go trumpets!

  • Now that is what you call BLOWING!!!!!!

  • WHOOOOOOOOOOOAAAA!!!!

  • YEEEEESSSSSSSSSS...ballsy

  • DUUUUUUUUUUUUKES!

  • ohh I miss playing this piece :(

  • I saw them last night at my highschool and we met the 4 drum majors ......AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! We got to see them warm up! And they have fun with it. If I was into band JMU would be where I would go! OH YEAH I love them!

  • MUSIC is my LIFE/SOUL/PASSION/HEART/LOVE.

  • we dont move because it is our concert tune. we move alot in the 2 other songs, which are on youtube as well. the 30 seconds is just a visual in order to move and have a good time. The MRDs do 3 shows a year, this is our entertainment piece. And all of our concert tunes have 2 moves.

  • Park and bark.......

Although I do applaud with the trumpet soli

  • virginia's finest...haha

  • I can't wait to hear JMU play Malaguena and Firebird this year!!!!!

  • Goosebumps!!!

  • woot =D i love that song

  • wooot!!!

  • our band has to play this this year. It is AWESOME!

  • The trompet Chase is te best the the best

  • wat are the susa's doing at 1 55

  • Dancing.

  • this reminds me how much im gunna miss playing in a marching band....holy crap that was amazing

  • Virginia's Finest

  • yeah my bad i thought i heard a different cord structure

  • *Throws baby*

  • Even with the 300+ people we have in the band you can still hear the pit. We must have been playing outrageously loud!!!

  • Yeah, this is at the JMU football stadium.

    GO DUKES!

  • Does anyone know where this is? Is it at their stadium? I'm asking because this field looks familiar.

  • 3:12, 3:12, Good God 3:12!!!

  • DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKKKKKKKKKESSSSSSSSSS! Fantastic! love the MRDs. Go see them if you ever get the chance!

    ~T're

  • Good Lord!!! AMAZING sound!!! Powerful, yet CLEAN!! That's what's up!!

  • This was one of my favorite concert sets when I was in the MRD's... it's in a close tie with Robin Hood!

  • Yeah guys, sounded balls. Too bad I couldn't do section leader again this year, Bender way to get that feature tight as shit.

  • I love this so much. The chords were hit on the mark each time by the upperbrass members. Well played JMU.

  • get it bender. was that a double B i heard?

  • Actually it's a Mega C...a Double B wouldn't fit in the cord right

  • It's a double B natural...

  • OMG one of the best trumpet featuring marching band pieces out there and you guys were friggen AWESOME! Those are some pretty sweet high G's you bust out there, im thuroughly impressed and im gonna suggest to my band director if i can get my range up in time for my senor season! From a future trumpet soloist at Battlefield High.

  • i watch this and i think to myself... i hope they move at least once rofl

    wheres the drill >:(

  • REAL college marching bands do multiple shows in a season... the middle tune has few sets in order to make multiple shows possible without a stupid amount of rehearsal time.

  • uhh... college marching bands do multiple shows... this middle tune is always lacking in movement to facilitate this.

  • they dont move much...

  • This is one of our "concert tunes" in which the Dukettes (Dance Team) perform with us. We don't move a lot in order to keep the focus on them.

  • they sound great

  • I WAS THERE...with Broad Run High School...Great time!

  • this is the greatest thing i have ever heard in my life

  • DUKES!

  • amazing

from your 8/10 AA Briar Woods High School

  • good stuff

  • O_O

  • great!
