Im just your everday drummer who wants to play drums. The difference is i dont have a drumset at home so I study these rudiments at pillows, notebooks, etc. Im planning to join our school marching band. I took lessons before, and I plan to take lessons again. When I have a drum set, I think I can apply these rudiments in some cool "after song" fills. :)
When I first started playing Percussion a few years ago most of my class was using SD1 General, but then we swtiched to IP - LD, there a little heavier and have more of a barrel shaped head. They have nice strokes and roll pretty evenly
I am a mid lifer who is getting back into drumming after 25 years on the sideline, and this time around I want to do it right. These posts really help a lot. I still have my old copies of Stick Control and Syncopation, and I've bought a couple of DVDs as well. Thanks for posting these rudiments. When I was young I was too impatient and didn't realize how important it is to learn the "alphabets" of drumming before trying to form "words" and "sentences" on the kit. Thanks!
For a person of limited ability like me, they're hard. But, it's still fun trying to learn them and trying to play them well. Like Jim Chapin says on another post, it gives you a feeling of accomplishment. There are so many different sticking patterns it's almost endless. And it's endless fun learning and practicing them. They're like little gems.
I Totally Agree I Have Been Practising Doubles(a Technique Used To Get Double The Amount Of Stokes in, If You Didn't Know) For A Year They Take So Long To Get The Hang Of But Once You Get Them It Feels So Good When You Can Go At Pretty Awsome Speeds AND I'M ONLY 12!!!
SINGLES everything evolves from there you can do paradiddles one on each hand than two more on one....
Mostly Singles, Paradiddles, Triples, Flams and drags rarely ever use double paradiddles or triple paradiddles some times u use double hand to hand thats it
I don't think so.. some rudiments help, yes, but some of these I just don't see the point of. And I think that the idea of a "good" drummers is a personal preference anyhow
What you really need are singles, doubles, triples, buzz strokes and the flam. All the rudiments are essentially combinations of these. It's much better to master these and go about developing your own patterns and ideas based on your own creativity and musical needs.

Ehhh... He's okay. When he gets up to his top speed, he accents the first three on his left hand. This is not what he started out doing. You are only supposed to accent the first note in the beginning of every hand. His top speed is pretty weak too. Although I don't like show-offs who try to play as fast as they can and think they are the best drummer in the world, I think this guy still needs to work on all his rudiment videos and get his playing tighter.
To see it slow and high speed is very useful, and great to get an idea of how it can be used. This is an instructional video to help others learn, nothing about showing off, you seem to be totally missing the point. You say, ''Ehhh... He's okay'' as if the videos purpose was to impress others. Its clearly stated 'drum lessons'. Critics arent needed here, unless ofcourse you can offer alternative video lesons and constructively correct these methods opposed to spouting random comments on youtube
everyone here who talks crap must suck at drummin...VK all the way.....hes just showin newbies, so piss off people, we need more like him to teach the young ones the basics...hes great at teaching in my opinion
@punkcab28 Except for the fact that he uses all arm and downstrokes for every thing he plays and no prep strokes in anything involving a paradiddle-like rudiment.
single strokes...im gonna be the best drummer in the world...this shit...fuck lol

This is a DOUBLE drag paradiddle. Or Drag paradiddle #2. A regular drag paradiddle only has 1.

nope
the alphabets is all the different techniques used wen hitting the pads such as all these videos
then words are putting these techniques together to make beats
then sentences are putting beats together to make songs
his problem was he started off too fast trying to learn and make songs rather than learning the right techniques first

Unless you plan on marching.
If you wanna march, you best know ALL the rudiments. Even the hybrid ones.
zeppelinfreak51 3 years ago
what is the point of rudiments though? why is there need for so many? I tried to find my answer on wikipedia but I failed.
MrSpanky87 3 years ago
You use rudiment's..to build your patterns and later use them in things like drum fills, licks, build up's etc.
It's like why do you learn to crawl and then walk. You cant walk without crawling first; you learn to crawl then you walk.
