Not always true. Cowboy Bebop was good in English and Japanese. Trigun was good in both. And while Azumanga Daioh was better in Japanese it was funnier in english.

the only thing good about this is that i don't have to read subs, but the negative effects out weigh that by 1000. This is BS! You also have to realize that the Japanese naturally speak with a lot more emotion in their voices than English speakers do, so it isn't just the voice actors who are at fault, but differences in culture as well.

Haha I love how people just say they want a british accent and assume it means an aristocratic style one. You have to remember there are many different accents around Britain. I think that a good, formal English accent would work well for Shizuru, but I guess they didn't have the foresight to realise that southern belle shizuru just doesn't work

Shizuru's tone is right...but her accent! EGADS! BluexArcher is right, if they wanted her to have an accent, why not make it a BRITISH ONE?! :( Dangit. They killed her voice.

I'm from the UK. I'd like to point out that we don't ALL have elegant, 'upper-class' accents. Some British people have very rough-sounding accents. No offence intended. I just hate being stereotyped.

In response to the people mentioning the azumanga daioh accent of Ayumu Kasuga... Osaka.. was from Osaka. i think it matched the background... but Shizuru-sama is from KYOTO. A kyoto-ben is very formal and POLITE and NOT ANYTHING like a southern accent! I almost cried when i head her dub voice T_T

theres a rational explanation for this...Shizuru in the japanese version, she has a Japanese country accent, in the English version, they wanted to keep it the same...country *shivers* but I agree with most of yous, the japanese voice is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better.

I... cannot stand her accent. Hearing it makes me slowly die on the inside lol. It's just so fake :\ they need to not have her so DEEP in the accent (and get a real southern girl to do it), hell I'm southern but I don't sound like that... Just slightly.

I hate the southern accent on Shizuru. Well, I hate the southern accent in general on anime characters. Must be because I lived in the deep south surrounded by it. Fond memories.
It doesn't seem right. Maybe a slightly creepy accent. That would go very well with her character in Mai hime and okay in Mai Otome.

hey , i dont know you guys, i like shizuru's voice in english and in japanse alike. haha i kinda think its attractive in english to, kindaa sexy and classy, and i often dont think that of many country accents, so yeah i dont think its texan either does sound like carolinas. P.s im a born and raised new yorker

i have a friend fro Kyoto Japan, not exactlly sure where in kyoto. but they're voices to me sounded very similar, but i coulldnt quite pin point it.anyway she and i watch this anime together sometimes and i asked her and she says she does, so there you go, :)

They use the accent to match the flavor of her accent in Japanese. To people who speak the language, her Japanese speech sounds just as strange.
