This music touches my very soul. It tries to reach something out of me that has been hidden for hundreds of years. I feel a very wide range of emotions when this happens.
I noticed some people complaining here that the organist pulled out all the stops, but I must say I really like how the sound continually sounds, reminds me of the chant... The stops in organ pieces always feel to me as if the sound was abruptly cut from its flowing.
He has not pulled out all stops for sure. He just uses principal choruses coupled on the manual and a 16' Reed on the pedals. I also can't hear any reeds on the manuals.
The organ is fantastic. It is so great to hear that the Basson 16'' is not just a sharp high-frequency yorkshire terrier but it is very round bombastic sound. Today's organ builders should learn from their predecessors.
this is played on an actual baroque organ? wow, didnt know those thing could sound that powerful back then, i always thought that came with the romantic organs
@HyperJN The organ actually comes to us from the ancient Pharonic courts of Egypt - yes, it is THAT old! The air pressure was sustained by water, and so it was called Hydraulis, twasnt until the dawn of the Greek Empire under Alexander that the word 'organos' was used and transported to the west. Ctesiphon in the 5th century BC describes it's sound as " thunder"!! THerefore, the Baroque version of this most ancient of instruments could not have been less than it's ancient antecedants- THUNDER!
This organ, this church .. has to be one of THE greatest works of art EVER created in human history. I am a metalhead, I listen to the hardest music known to man, but this instrument .. can reduce me to tears.
Definitely my favorite instrument of the whole entire world. I wished I could play it and learn it well. The sounds this instruments make, it's just simply amazing. I love the bass in the background. WOwwwwww, just amazing music
To RocKnBlooD - I was 15 years old when I bought an LP of Bach's organ music played at Notre Dame, Paris. I would like to encourage you to cultivate a wide range of musical styles, as no doubt, you are already doing. Go for it!
To wedrownik - I live in New Zealand, and your posting of this spine-tingling, glorious organ so masterfully played was a welcome revelation. I've been an organ buff for over 50 years and I'd never heard of this one!
I'm a bach scholar from England and i whole-heartedly disagree with the last comment. The emphasis was placed on what Bach did best which was bass lines. What a fantastic use of stops for the pedal work plus the coupling was fantastic. Also the stoic melody with only phrasing not intonation was well thought out. A great piece of musicianship as i like to think just as Bach would have intended. Listen to some Lionel Rogg or some Daniel Roth to appreciate my meaning!
Finally - a recording of the BWV 546 that I can sink my teeth into! Truly wonderful, amazing instrument, amazing playing. Well done. I wish I could hear the fugue too!

how beautifully dramatic. The very low pitched notes, along with the higher notes makes my soul tremble with pleasure.

Rejoice, hopefully everyone will stop those large scale brickering on politics, drink coffee/teas and listen or play Bach.

@ferretboy1187 I'd say he has literally pulled out all of the stops and coupled everything to one manual. And he's opened all of the shutters. Lol!
