I hate the fact that punk became a manner of dress and speech and a sound. It began as an idea and a movement. Then fuckin' kids and businesses get their hands on it, and like everything else, it becomes pop. Everything becomes pop. And pop is a horrible thing.
a band should be able to dress however the fuck they want, as long as they dont invest in corporations, designer brands or sponsor certain clothes. Bad religion choose to make a point by going by no 'look' whatsoever, but the fact is alot of metal and punk bands enjoy the look and the clothes and feel it creates their indetity. I knw i for one couldnt live without ripped denim, band t-shirts and ink
If you guys are really still trying to squabble over what is "Punk Rock" you have totally missed the whole idea. And seriously talking about Greg's clothing?!?!
@squidman86 Greg Graffin has said that most BR songs are written either on acoustic guitar or on piano, so this is actually probably the closest to the songs' original form.
Every site that i look at for lyrics of dearly beloved, it says that they say make no mistake, despite out traits, i've seldom seen evidence of genes. where do they actually say evidence of genes 'cause i can't hear them
The 2 handjobs who suggest bad religion is biting off Nofx clearly have no fuckin clue....bad religion has been around since those tools were in diapers
I don't understand the fascination with tatoos - why do people like to get permanent ink injected into their bodies/skin? Whatever - get tatoos - I don't give a shit.
So Graffin - isn't he a professor at UCLA? Is that just a bunch of garbage? I'm pretty sure he is, because my sister went to LA and she said his class was always hard to enroll in becuase it was so popular. But for all I know, he teaches upper division. Anyhow, can someone confirm this?
@blakepinder7 lol Mike and Melvin would be the first to disagree with you. I love NOFX, but while NOFX writes fun songs, Bad Religion writes deep songs - without betraying the raw punk energy.
If you're talking about the vocals, you can't really compare - both bands have entirely different vocal styles. That being said, listen to New Maps, listen to the harmonies. You don't hear anything that sophisticated on any NOFX album. But that's BR style, not NOFX style. Both styles are great.
@thebigsmuz NOFX - "we aint shit" ...... i know there both way diffrent styles ... personally i like NOFX's style a lot more .... Its seems so many bad religion songs are sooOOO!!!! similar .. ahha but we both know there both great bands..!
@thebigsmuz NOFX does a lot of vocal melodies. you can find them on almost all of their cd's, excluding their first few maybe.
but they dont necessarily rely as heavily on them as Bad Religion. i use 'rely' for lack of a better word.. I'm not sure who i like more. but i agree that NOFX would definitely be the first to say that they aren't nearly as amazing as Bad Religion, which to an extent it's true.
but BR doesnt have the decline, so... its a close call.
@hotpokets182 Yeah, I love both for different reasons. It's kinda like comparing apples and oranges - sometimes I'm in a BR mood, and sometimes I'm in a NOFX mood. Way different styles, but each awesome in their own right.
@thebigsmuz totally, i own a handful of CD's from each band. and if i hadn't been told about NOFX from a friend of mine, then i wouldn't have really been as into Bad Religion. I'm not so much into looking into different unless a different band or friend takes me to them. i had heard BR's name many times, but for some reason i assumed i wouldn't really like them. i was WAY wrong...
Because Punk Rock is not Tatoos or black clothes punk rock is a community of people were no one stereotypes everyone fits in and are allowed to be and wear what they want
who cares what they look like or dress like? they are the baddest motherfuckers ever! We could all learn from their lyrics. just do the right thing. its that easy!!!
Seems like they capo'd down a bit. I like that Graffin wail in a higher register. But we're quibbling now, eh?
Many have commented on the fact that Graffin makes absolutely no attempt whatever to look "punk rock." The man has no visible tattoos and dresses hiker casual. He simply is what he is.
What makes this band great is that they usually tour in support of an album, rather than relying on the oldies. I respect that. They have more to say, and they are damn well saying it.
@pitbull103 I'd say he's more punk rock for not trying to dress like a punk rock. Bad religion have always done things their way, and been exactly who they are no matter what people think, which is the most punk thing you can do
@nocomply27 totally agree !! punk rock it's not related about dress ! as you say BD always done the things in their own way ! - that's really punk rock ! not like POP BANDS of today - welcome to the new dark ages!
@nocomply27 Second off, punk isn't supposed to be an industry of cool so who gives a shit what you, him or I am wearing who the fuck is anyone to tell anybody what and who is punk just shut the fuck up.and enjoy music which refreshingly in this day and time has a meaning and logical lyrics which shouts the frustrations and concerns of the everyday man and besides, its fucking badass.
@pitbull103 "What makes this band great is that they usually tour in support of an album, rather than relying on the oldies." One album every 2 years, great band
@pitbull103 totally agree... but you know.. i consider that he "not looking punk rock" like a lot of people say is precisely being punk... there's no need in holding the flag up in the sky when you have it inside of you in your beliefs your mind and in your heart... i guess he's even more punk than a lot of those "check me out i'm a punk rocker" dudes out there... dont you think?
@pitbull103 Too all the ladies that even commented on Graffin's appearance....you do not deserve to watch this video or hear this bliss. Period. If you try to be punk rock you're missing the point.
@pitbull103 I agree with you on the supporting the new album touring part, but I think what really makes Bad Religion a great band - apart from their fabulous songwriting, of course - is mostly its fanbase. How many bands have you ever heard of that has fans that actually know how to write, or listen to music, or just plain and simple how to think? I don't mean to insult anyone here, I'm just saying let's be grateful for Bad Religion for giving us something to use our intellects on.

Please stop me before I do it again... going to see BR again, november 2010... Cannot believe that we are yet again in such a historic period as this: would have thought we'd all received the message the last time 'round. If we are ever to set this right.... we must accept or own dark ages, heed each others calls..... why must we disbelieve or friends and neighbors, isn't there common ground anymore these are the new dark ages and the world might end tonight...
KROQ STARTED TO SUCK WHEN CBS BOUGHT IT IN 93 OR SO.
AND it's amazing how overrated this poser band is, while much better, legit punk bands such as, TSOL, The Adolescents, D.I., The Vandals, etc. get passed by the radio + major lables but that's why music sucks these days.
@TheNewMusicNetwork please, look at the lyrics, they talk about what most of the issues nowadays are mostly ignored by the society. This kind of music make us realize that there are people who still fight for their ideas so don't say they're posers and shit just because they defend their ideas
@TheNewMusicNetwork what a load of bull. BR's been one of the best punk rock bands since they started, and theyre pretty legit so you must not know a thing about them other than this acoustic performance. And KROQ is awesome, they play a lot of good music. Don't be so ignorant to think if it's not hardcore punk it's not music. Im mostly a punk rock and ska guy, but i still listen to some rock, blues, metal, and grunge.
But I will agree that there's a lot of bad music nowadays.
@TheNewMusicNetwork so wait, bad religion is why music sucks these days? you need to go back to listening to justin beeber then man cause you aint no punk by any stretch.
love Bad Religion, i'm glad they're still a band after 30 years. they're still true to their music, they didn't change to make more miney. they played what the y wanted people to hear and what they love. Bad Religion will always be one of my favorite bands
@stressdoubt1 Speaking of respecting people's beliefs, you all need to check urselves. I'm a believer in God, and a fan of Bad Religion. Even though I don't agree with Greg's ideology, I dig his music and style. So please don't bash on my beliefs or my favorite artists.
@B4Brendetta no1 is bashing believers like you my friend. i have no problem with people believing what they want. if i did i would be the biggest hypocrit in the fuckin world. what i do have a problem with is shit talkers, and people that throw their beliefs in my face. :)
@B4Brendetta Too lazy to see what you were talking about before. But I know that respecting the beliefs of someone else is quite alright. And I'm not so sure, but Bad Religion miiiight be about keeping an open mind, yeah? They'd be called Bad God if they weren't, imo.
@B4Brendetta Believing in God is totally fine, even though I do not believe. I agree with you though, everyone should respect other peoples beliefs. Who I do not respect are Christians that are trying to convert the whole world and make people believe in what they want them to believe. I think religion should be a CHOICE and not a MUST.
gregs short are the fuckin shit and fuck all of you that say otherwise. he truely doesnt give a fuck. those shorts are the punkest thing i have ever seen,
@TheWierdnerd75 have you read the music? they know damn what what they speak of unlike you. if they suck so much why are you watching this video? fuck off.
I really love the fact that they're not trying to act or look like they're still in their twenties, I really admire that. I think that retard from Rancid could learn a thing or two from them...
which "retard" are you refering to? because rancid is still tight as hell and are still punk as fuck. watch the wars end sung only by lars frederickson you ignorant fuck.
@nofxopivyrancid The loser in the mohawk. No, I don't think they're "punk as fuck", more like "fucking junk", but matt freeman is talented (altough highly overrated). Why should I watch it, I'm still gonna think they suck.
@jagheterzack Hey, Rancid is an iconic punk band! But I know exactly what you're saying, lol. BR never really dressed any part, they let their music and stage presence speak for itself. That's one of the most admirable things about BR.
@Minotauro79 Sure, but they haven't aged with dignity, like bad religion, wich was my point. You could say that Iron Maiden has stayed true to their roots, if that means playing the exact same stuff for thirty years. That I don't know if Rancid has, I just don't think they aged with dignity, wich the guys in BR has.
@jagheterzack don't down talk rancid, they're one of the most iconic punk bands ever. just cause you don't like the way they look doesn't mean anything, let them dress how they want who gives a shit how they look, all that matters is the unreal music they make.
@jagheterzack maybe the rancid crew still believe that things need to change and that dressing like keeps them young, and plus they dont care what you think
in this recording they start on B switch to E on "call" then to G on "susserations" then D on the "tend" of "extend" then back to B for "plunge" repeat like that for verse, chorus is mostly the same but with a little A before the B. (ps look around tab sites somebody tabbed this recording)
@Cisne22 Cause Bad Religion actually requires some intellect to listen to and truly fully appreciate, unlike other modern crap like Lady Gaga and Rihanna....
Greg can be sexy wearing anything, leave his clothes alone!

@B4Brendetta Believing in God is totally fine, even though I do not believe. I agree with you though, everyone should respect other peoples beliefs. Who I do not respect are Christians that are trying to convert the whole world and make people believe in what they want them to believe. I think religion should be a CHOICE and not a MUST.

bad religion sucks, they need to go to church, learn about god and learn what they sing against
TheWierdnerd75 1 year ago
@TheWierdnerd75 - we all know what they sing about ;) churches are for setting on fire - so if you go to a church - bring kerosin ;)
xlnt2new 1 year ago
@TheWierdnerd75 You need to learn to respect people's beliefs. It's people like you that cause so much violence and hatred in the worl.
BadReligion93 1 year ago
@TheWierdnerd75 I'm pretty sure Greg Graffin knows more about "god" than you'll ever know in your lifetime.

I really love the fact that they're not trying to act or look like they're still in their twenties, I really admire that. I think that retard from Rancid could learn a thing or two from them...

which "retard" are you refering to? because rancid is still tight as hell and are still punk as fuck. watch the wars end sung only by lars frederickson you ignorant fuck.
nofxopivyrancid 1 year ago
@nofxopivyrancid The loser in the mohawk. No, I don't think they're "punk as fuck", more like "fucking junk", but matt freeman is talented (altough highly overrated). Why should I watch it, I'm still gonna think they suck.

@jagheterzack fuck you, I love bad religion, but dont knock down rancid!
MCRAFISP9 1 year ago
@jagheterzack Hey, Rancid is an iconic punk band! But I know exactly what you're saying, lol. BR never really dressed any part, they let their music and stage presence speak for itself. That's one of the most admirable things about BR.
ash0ppingcart 1 year ago
@jagheterzack
That "retard" from Rancid also doesn't teach at UCLA but just like Bad Religion they've stayed true to their roots. I guess haters gonna hate.
Minotauro79 1 year ago
@Minotauro79 Sure, but they haven't aged with dignity, like bad religion, wich was my point. You could say that Iron Maiden has stayed true to their roots, if that means playing the exact same stuff for thirty years. That I don't know if Rancid has, I just don't think they aged with dignity, wich the guys in BR has.
jagheterzack 1 year ago
@jagheterzack don't down talk rancid, they're one of the most iconic punk bands ever. just cause you don't like the way they look doesn't mean anything, let them dress how they want who gives a shit how they look, all that matters is the unreal music they make.
8hrvat8 1 year ago 2
@jagheterzack maybe the rancid crew still believe that things need to change and that dressing like keeps them young, and plus they dont care what you think

does anyone know the chords to new dark ages?
whbdrummer 2 years ago
in this recording they start on B switch to E on "call" then to G on "susserations" then D on the "tend" of "extend" then back to B for "plunge" repeat like that for verse, chorus is mostly the same but with a little A before the B. (ps look around tab sites somebody tabbed this recording)
