  • Which buildings on UA property have voice evac and which ones don't?

  • @Gb755c the Campus Center (main building), Performing Arts Center, Library, Lecture Centers, Arts and Sciences, Phys Ed building and SEFCU Arena have voice evac, the rest are all non-voice evac.

  • do the voice instructions only play at the beginning of the alarm because all I can hear for the rest of the video is the slow whoop. One of our dorms has the same alarm and I was pretty sure it had voice instructions but one day I walked past as they were having a drill and all I heard was the slow whoop.

  • @sfoiad Yes, as the description says, it does two chimes, two slow whoops, plays a message three times, then does slow whoop until silenced/reset.

  • "My stuff!"

If that was a reference to Zelda on CDi...

  • @thevisualboy37 no, my stuff was just on the floor and in many collages, when the alarm goes off, you're supposed to take your things with you.

  • @weatherdan882002 Oh, good. Thanks for not referencing an internet meme in a fire drill video.

  • "Fire Drill! (wierd noise)"

    "My Stuff!"

"I don't care if my bookbags open, we're getting out of here!"

Dude you are odd. But no worries, so am I...probably more so.

  • Its a simplex voie evac, wich I love for the awsome whoops.

  • Some people behind me who saw me with my camera and said "Actually, this kid's videos show up on YouTube," so they seemed to have recognized me from here.

  • I could hear the message (on the third time) and the slow whoops very well.

  • You CANT use the elevators in case of a real fire you may go in a lift & the electricity is cut off & you would get stuck and burn alive.

  • Well actually they automatically are "called" to the first floor when the alarms go off and shut off so no one can use them even if they wanted to.

  • Well, they CAN be, but that's not always the case, but at UAlbany, I believe they are programmed for that. One elevator is shared w/ the Performing Arts Center. I'll bet it's dual-wired so that if one of the buildings is in alarm, it'll just avoid going to a floor that services that building.

  • Hey dan.

I know that you are great with fire alarms, and your vids have inspired me to put together my own system. I haven't bought the components yet, and i would like to know if this can be done without a panel- to save some money. My top priority would be a wheelock ns, because they are installed at my school. You are the only person on youtube that i think would be a huge help to me!!

  • Yeah, it can be done, but without a panel, unless you have a transformer of some sort, it'd be hard to keep constant power applied to it...

  • oh ok ill look for one and ill also look for a pull station

  • dudes-firedrillls-rok-my-sister-once-pulled-the-alarm-cause-she-got-fukin-pissed-at-her-bfrend-and-now-she-wont-talk-at-all-and-now-we-have-a-fuukin-firealarm-system-in-our-house-so-if-anybody-want-me-to-post-a-video-of-me-pulling-my-fire-alarm-system-just-ring-me-up-well-got-to-go-now-byeeeee

  • OMG I always thought that I was the only one who was obsessed with fire drills. The thing with me though, is that I actually pull them, but then I got caught, so no more for me! I love this video. Our college doesn't have a voice evac system. We only have a code 3 signal, in which the strobe flashes once for every three intervals of the audible signal. It's kinda' crazy!

  • Yeah, that's kind of messed up...

  • I hate this fire alarm. This alarm is the same one used in one of the freshman dorm buildings at University of Miami. There were many nights that I would be woken up by that loud whooping noise. It was annoying and kind of spooky, sounds like a guy screaming on the top of his lungs or something.

  • That's a unique description of the alarm...

  • On the video Embassy Suites Fire Drill, the Simplex Fire Alarm voice message says:

"Attention, Attention, This is an emergency, Leave the building through a marked exit, do not use the elevators." Why couldn't they have programed that message instead?

  • Because a: they were probably lazy and b: the message heard here is the default message for the Simplex voice evac systems.

  • At 01:11, it goes in to constant slow-whoop.

  • Hahaha, I'm so in this video for like... two seconds. WOO!

  • I love it when you say "I don't cair if my book bags open where getting out of here!" The way you sead it was so funny!

  • I said that purposely to be funny. Besides, in a LC with 400+ people in it (supposingly), if you wait, you're gonna get stuck, as I did. Also, in this vid, there are other ways out, but I just followed everyone else. It probably wouldn't have mattered if I took a different route anyway, because you just couldn't move anywhere except forward...

  • The problem with elevators are if they're used and, for whatever reason, ever fail during a fire, the occupants inside may be trapped and could be killed by fire or smoke inhalation.

Therefore, the elevators are not supposed to be used during a fire to preclude this possibility.

  • There's only 2 elevators in the whole LC and NO ONE, except for delivery guys, use them. I just think a different message should be used, especially since this one doesn't tell you to leave the building. I think this message would be better for high-rise buildings, and aside from the dorm towers, UAlbany has no high-rises. The only reason speaker/strobes are installed is because the buildings they're installed in have a high occupancy rating.

  • Well, if there are elevators, the message might still have to be used.

Another possibility could be that it's a general message for the alarm; the same message could be used in other buildings in their systems. Cheaper economics to record one message for all systems that says it all instead of recording custom messages for each building.

  • Yeah - that message is the default for Simplex systems. And yeah, I realize it is cheaper, but then it makes the job seem not so qualitatively done, and being as we're dealing w/ safety, it should always be done qualitatively.

  • I agree, although in this case, the alarm is giving information that still pertains to the building's features, even though the elevators are not intended to be used by general foot traffic.

It may also help to reduce liability to the building owners as well just in case you have greedy plaintiffs and an unscrupulous lawyer claiming the system is inadequate for not warning people to not use the elevators, despite the facts.

  • Hey I go to UAlbany too. We should hangout.

  • I'm a commuter student. I live about 30 minutes away.

  • Hey, I go to UAlbany too. Where do you live?

  • I think I have OCD. Why, cause I love buying fire alarms, I have almost 30 pairs of shoes, and I love sport/luxury perduction cars like the 2006 pontiac GTO.

  • What the f*** is ocd?

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder...

  • If you have it, do u act hyper like if you have adhd?

  • It's possible, but that's not always the case...

  • Is this a college or somethin cause my cousin is in college and they never had a fire drill. PS. I live in miami florida.

  • Yes, this was taken at the University at Albany in Albany, NY. UAlbany requires all education buildings, including the lecture centers have to have 1 drill during the fall semester, 1 during the spring semester (which is what the drill in this vid was for) and one in the summer semester. Other buildings, ones with large occupancy rating, must have 4 per year, although, IDK how if there's a specific period in which they need to have them in...

  • What job are you studying?

  • Broadcast Meteorology. In case you can't tell, this was taken in my oceans class - one of my classes required for my degree.

  • Hey. I have OCD also, and I am partly obsessed with fire alarms and how trhey sound. Only thing is, I can't stand to know when a drill is coming up because it scares the shit out of me.

  • Same here. That's why I used to got pulled from classes before it went off. I was able to get the drill list for the fall, but didn't ask about the drill list for the spring, And look what happened - and it wasn't half bad!

  • I suggest you research what O.C.D. is.

  • I already know what OCD is. I've been diagnosed with it for 12 years now, and have been on medication for it for the past 11 years. I basically know all there is to know about it. Granted, my obsession is one that doesn't come along everyday and is totally different from the normal OCD obsessions, it is still obsessive-compulsive nonetheless...

  • Sorry... I have OCD too. Accept I have the rituals and axiety type of thing. I have a LOT of different ticks and rituls and have mad axiety problems. And I have to go to a special ed school (and OCD's my only issue) because my parents think I have mental problems because they don't understand. They think I just want attention.

  • great vid dan!

  • Thx! It was fun to take this one!

  • good vid see my vid cyberlight22 symplex fire and compair!
