Don't believe anything the mainstream tells you, it's all a coverup, Airbus is aware of the technical problems, but due high modification costs and airplane grounding time, reducing profits, they choose to keep flying, any a330 can still fall out of the sky today.
It seems that the two co-pilots forgot basic procedure and did not apply thrust and positive elevator angle for a nose up attitude to avoid a stall. They should have called the boss.
@chemerich - nose down to increase speed quickly and avoid the stall. Stalling is typically propogated by low speed and increasing angle of attack, resulting in a loss of lift. Drag can be so high close to stall speed that increased thrust may not be enough to increase speed without lowering the nose...
@cbrbird yeah and the software in Airbus planes does exactly that.. it pulls the noise up slightly and opens full throttle.. and sometimes this isn't enough like you say.. you may need a dive to gain airspeed.
I´am sceptic about the pitot icing theory. It is very unlikely that an icing occurs at 35000 ft. Even heavy turbolence can be handled by an A 330. I know it is just speculation and that we have to wait until the final report. But I think it could have been a slowly decompression. The plane was hit on the ground some time before and repaired. It crashed in a normal flight position not nose down. The recovered bodies had no life vests on. What if passengers and crew were unconscious ?
@Slaterator I'm a pilot and it seems like you know a bit about what you're talking about. I've never heard the decompression theory but after considering it, it does seem plausible. I can't wait till the FDR and CVR are recovered. This mystery is so fascinating but extremely sad at the same time. Great theory though.
I´ve studied a lot of material and civil aviation is my hobby since 20 years. The official theories are not very likely to me. First of all the first theorie that a lightning strike could be the cause. And icing of the pitot and/or static ports at 35000 ft. seems also not very logical. But the aircraft´s history is interesting. And a slowly decompression could answer a lot of questions. I realy hope that if they find and recover the boxes they´re able to read them out.
@Slaterator slow decompression? Maybe a door or so was blown out..causing the plane to go for a rapid dive..let's hope the now found black boxes can give an answer. Read:
No. If a door blows out at 35000 ft. this would not be a SLOW decompression. It would be a rapid one. I was thinking about a faulty air vent or some kind of hair crack in the bulkhead or somewhere else. They found the data recorder today and recovered it. But it is anything but sure that it can be read out. I realy hope so. All we can do is sit and wait...
@Slaterator Yes, I wasn't saying slow decompression..but indeed rapid one. But let's wait for the investigation to continue, we both don't know what happened...
Seeing all the hurt that those people are going through brought tears to my eyes. I hope that one day the truth will be uncovered and that they may all live in peace. :/
Pilots were struggling from the system which was getting failed one after another, even then they would have survived the catastrophe of the crash but sitting in the bed room commenting on the pilot's mistake is easy but being in his shoes and struggling to get the control of the flight is another story, as per my knowledge no pilot would ever wants to risk the lives of the passengers. I hope this mystery comes to a conclusion soon!!
the crash of AF 447 is an incredible scandal. Air France blames the weather, storm, lightning, but what about its own responsibility? why did the pilot fly directly into the eye of the storm, instead of taking the way around as some other airliners did?was it because of scanty fuel calculation, as argued by some newspapers? it makes me angry to see that today, the world almost forgot about the most mysterious aircrash of the past decade - and that the truth still lies on the bottom of the ocean.
@MrHavana08 One possibility is that they got fooled by weather radar that showed them only smaller storm in front of that really big one that can be dangerous.
Anyways big parts like landing gears and engines were found from bottom recently, there is big chance that they find also black boxes, and if they work they maybe answer to that question too.
There CANT be any video of what happent because its not known certainly yet and will not until FVR are recovered... the pitot tubes issue, while probable , its a theory so far
Thanks for posting. This video gives insight into the suffering of the survivors of a tragedy. There's a 53 minite video on Flight 447 which is much more comprehensive in the reconstruction of the chain of events which lead to the crash. It can be found on NOVA the PBS show. Simply type in PBS.com and click on NOVA. They'll offer you a number of shows. Click on the 447 option. Excellent. They talk about the unique conditions which may have lead to the crash and what the pilots could have done.
So one plane crash in a decade is more than atleast 100 deadly car accidents a day? To this day, it is the safest way of transportation especially when u consider how many planes take off a day from every airport and most carrying 200+ passengers. Accidents do happen and yes when it happens its in huge numbers. I work for an airline and fly almost every day and trust me, you dont get much more security checks 24/7 than this.
This is the proof that airplanes are NOT the safest means of transportation. Air France has had at least 1 deadly accident within every single decade ever since they are in operation and they are one of the biggest and most prestigious airlines in the world. What do you expect from a smaller one? BULLSHIT!
i dont get it.If a bus full of people falls off a cliff they dont make videos like this.It maybie is in a day news. But if a plane crashes its all over the news, internet etc , they make documentaries and videos about it.HUNDREDS of people die every day in car accidents.Flying with plane IS 1 of the safest way to travel.
@b0x3s ofcorse its boring :D but because these news are so popular and people have intrest in them than people start to freak out and and become afraid of flying wich IS one of the safest ways to travel.
Lol, case Boeing has never crashed, they have finally found the remains this week and hopefully the black box with it, I am 99% positive that this was pilot error, all other flights on route diverted that night due to bad climate conditions and severe turbulence, while this plane flew right into it, I was told this by an Air France Pilot and it makes sense, we will see, but Airbus have a better safety record than boeing
@joshuanaconda Why would you even start typing what you have when you so obviously have no clue on any of this. How would you then explain the data transmissions that the ACARS uploaded? How would you explain the fact that that one of the systems that governs altitude and the cockpit's interpretation of airspeed and altitude (the entire basis for human and computer decision making / situational awareness) generated fault codes and was malfunctioning? This is more likely an obstructed pitot tube.
@joshuanaconda I'm sure the families of the flight crews appreciate you ignorantly slandering their deceased loved ones from your parents' basement!! How considerate of you! Do some reading (even wikipedia would have given you some idea of what an idiot you are) before you start typing bullshit here.
right, cause Wikipedia is not what idiots read, try having a few conversations with actual pilots, doing some real research. No need to be calling names (idiot) that only confirms the lack of argument when debating something, I said i was 99% positive, not 100%, we will see in a few weeks what the outcome is, anyway, search your stats, Aribus is safer than Boeing, greetings.
@joshuanaconda So sorry..I guess I underestimated you. It is pretty impressive that you can drink windshield washer fluid, huff gasoline AND type at the same time! How else would you have so completely missed my point?!? I've researched the causes and contributing factors of most every air mishap of large passenger jets since Air Canada Flight 621 in 1970. I have also had occasion to postulate as to causes of recent mishaps with an FAA investigator whom I'd met some time ago.
@joshuanaconda ...and check out Aeroperú Flight 603 for what I'd said about an obstructed (or malfunctioning) pitot tube. I would imagine you know all about that though, having had the conversations you've had with the crop-dusting pilots you'd suggested I talk to! Run upstairs now...I think dinner's ready!
Yes, in fact I know everything about that flight, it wasn't malfunctioning, it was obstructed by some kind of local insect. Again, basic comment froma basic guy, you are so elemental!
@joshuanaconda If by "local insect" you mean the piece of masking tape that the maintenance worker (Eleuterio Chacaliaza) left on the pitot delta... For someone who complains here about being called an idiot; you certainly do make it difficult not to! Given that the whole point here has been that you don't bother getting your facts straight; I would have thought that you'd give what I had handed you on a friggin' platter a cursory glance before TOTALLY PROVING MY POINT...THANKS...IDIOT!
I have my own company in motorbikes, but it makes me sick how 75% out there has no technical skills whatsoever, their just their for the profits and to scam the customer. I'm sure this goes for the aircraft industrie aswell. Maintenance is often waited for better profits. Makes me wanna vomit !
@Ravenholm1982 not really, airbus is aware of the problems, lately there was another a330 emergency landing at amsterdam airport, but they would not anounce the problems. There's a serious airspeedsensor problem on airbus 300 series
Thank heavens that actual pilots that fly the plane were able to watch this clip and debunk a lot of the myth that the person who's supposed to have experience with the aircraft system is pandering. Never seen so much sensationalism and rubbish in my life.
there's a new documentary out, i heard it blames Pitot Static System, big plane like that and a clogged pitot static system is like flying blind, especially if they hit a storm what not, still gotta see the new documentary
@7BJDX I finally saw the new documentary yesterday, its a Nova special 'Flight 447' Really goood independent study on what happened that night, chain of events from a smaller storm blocking a huge storm in their path on radar. Supercooled water that froze over the pitot-static tube system, once you lose that, you lose all automated control, and the crew had to take over in extreme conditions and even the smallest of mistakes by them could've caused a stall and sent the plane downward
Rather than this British anti-science anti-engineering anti-knowledge hand-wringing, I suggest you check out the NOVA episode online at PBS_dotorg about this flight. A very good case is made by real accident investigators for what happened, without the distracting bleatings of BBC talking heads and lawyers.
@antimatterXXXIII Hi there! In fact, our spoken Portuguese has not much to do with the one spoken in portugal. Mostly different in accent but also in writing. The accent heard in the reporting is the local Rio de Janeiro accent (with strong Portuguese & French old influence) but we have many others throughout the vast country. Funny when we talk in Portuguese (Brazilian accent) while in Europe and people really cannot figure out what language is that! Already heard it sounded like Romanian,
@antimatterXXXIII Turkish, Catalan to name a few. One question... Do you know any reportage on this accident but dealing with the legal aspects? With lawyers or Union representatives about the legal items? If you know... please help me to get there. Thanks a lot!
Tell this "lawyer" James Healy-Pratt to screw himself. He has no clue regarding the aviation technology. Is he "board certified" in aviation torts, or merely expressing himself to gain a profit from families left behind? It's surprising you would subscribe to his nonsense. All recovered flight data recorders are transcribable. Tell him to jump into the southern Atlantic and recover the recorders from flight 447. I will willingly transcribe them.
@ginger0612 They are NOT all of them transcribable! :D How on earth can you say anything else?? :P And that matters little when you cant find the bloody thing in the first place... :P
@Inganotodden The point is that in almost all cases the recorders contain sufficient data to identify the cause. So the infrastructure required for live recording of data via telemetry is expensive, unnecessary, and above all distracting from the actual problem of flight safety. This one will be resolved eventually.
In the case of streaming the flight data and cockpit voice recording back to base, I wouldn't say cost was the only factor, not by a long shot. There's only so much radio spectrum bandwidth to go round, and the demands on it are already extremely heavy. In what channels should all this data be streamed? There's a hell of a lot of aircraft in the sky at any one time, and that means a hell of a lot of flight data. Recorders on aircraft are not ideal but the alternatives have their flaws too.
I cannot tell these ppl how sorry i feel for them and how many condolences i have for them. This was truly fate and those ppl do not deserve to lose their family members. I can't imagine how i'd feel..:(
@faridjabba I FOUND THAT airbus is very automaticac compaered to boeing wwhic is more human driven, i guess ocudl be like in [ 2001 space odysey[ in which computers fuckup human aaction , but i dont underat why in midflight a plane can crash, its likely in takeoff or laniding as iknow, can there be turbulance beyond takeoff after the plain crosses the clouds? it seems when it gets a height theres no tutbulnace, isnt it [ cruiseheight [ or so ?
well AirFrance just owns the planes , but the equipment and the technology they need to get is from Airbus (also french company) 3M/year seems like a right number nowadays, still expensive though... I still wonder if it was really the tubes, it could explain part of the accident as the velocity misinformation and sure the weather conditions worsen the situation, but is still bizarre the coincidence. Anyway I wouldn't trust the government hands in these matters either =[
This is an appallingly weak and intellectually dishonest piece of infotainment. Shame on the ABC in Australia and may they rediscover journalism. A little cup of poison.
Does anyone seriously think that the French government is going to permit a thorough, full and transparent investigation into its nationalized aircraft manufacturer, especially if it reveals a design flaw in the A300 family of planes?
Of course not. Instead, they will blame "pilot error" for causing yet another A300/A310/A320/A330 rudder to fall off. They will then bribe the Brazilian government with development deals to drop the investigation.
Yeah yeah yeah, bla bla bla. The plane admittedly landed on belly, so the pilots were completly clear about their speed I guess. MAKE MORE INTENSE SIGNED BLACK BOXES! PUT DOUBLE SIZE AND BATTERY or something.... :/// I hope we will know once the truth... :(
@jairrrrrr failed pitot tubes can cause a stall/breakup of the aircraft. There is a very small range of speed which an aircraft can fly in at cruise. Too fast, the aircraft breaks up. Too slow, it stalls. The A330 has a window of something around 50 knots, or something. In addition, pilots slow the plane down when entering storms, so they would have no idea what speed they were going at.
@kikusiakikusi why do you think boeing are better. look down though the years the 747 and 737 had to have there fusalage or some parts strenghtened for example aloha airlines incident and the united airlines incident in the 80s when a cargo door lock failed burst open in the middle of the pacific. leaving the pilots to battle with a huge hole in the fuselage and 2 failed engines on the one side for 30 minutes until they made the emergeny landing in honolulu.
@kikusiakikusia um except that the Boeing 787 could not meet the existing fuel tank safety regulations put in place after the crash of TWA 800 but I guess the FAA decided to "loosen" those safety regulations for their friends at boeing...
@XxStalkerxSasquachXx Actually this was the first major commercial incident involving the A330, it's really one of the best aircraft around. Personally I prefer Airbus and there have been a lot (relatively) of Boeing crashes if you search for it. Plus this accident is quite queer...
thank you intoxicatedTV but unfortunately the song is not what have you mentioned ... if you search on "you tube" you'll see is completely different . . ..
@LittleMissMichigan why, he went on the exact same flight, nothing happened, this flight has been going in and out everyday since the crash, and nothing has happened.
@Britishboyy1 Yes but you see, the petotubes on the airbus fleet were faulty and did not actually work much at all. This was because airbus disigned its aircraft to go to high altitudes. But the petrotubes were not changed to suit this hight flying. so the petotubes on the plane could have giving a miscalculation to the computer telling them they were flying when they were actually falling towards the ocean. And they fell flat which means you would have not noticed anything if you were on plane
Not exactly. Airplane manufacturers have the responsibility of issuing airworthiness directives which, in concurrence with government authorities, are regulatory. Airlines MUST comply with them before the plane can fly. Frequently the directive allows flying for a period of time if the defect can be inspected first and isn't known to be immediately threatening.
So there is at least a bit more culpability than car makers.
@21freeskier21 They will never turn up my friend, I followed this story and they just called it off because it was taking to long. The black boxes were located in a general loacation but they decided it was to deep to try and look for them.
Today there was a suspected bomb on another Air France did the same percussion of the accident. The plane was posed in Recife for agents seeking the bomb but they found nothing. Weird ...
We can follow a prisonner with a GPS bracelet but we are not able to know exactly where a plane crashed, only imprecise waypoints... Do not understand!

Slaterator 9 months ago
@Slaterator I'm a pilot and it seems like you know a bit about what you're talking about. I've never heard the decompression theory but after considering it, it does seem plausible. I can't wait till the FDR and CVR are recovered. This mystery is so fascinating but extremely sad at the same time. Great theory though.
RockinToke 9 months ago
@RockinToke
Slaterator 9 months ago
@Slaterator well they have found the black box today !
barthoedemaker 9 months ago
@Slaterator slow decompression? Maybe a door or so was blown out..causing the plane to go for a rapid dive..let's hope the now found black boxes can give an answer. Read:
.iol.co.za/news/world/faulty-autopilot-could-be-cause-of-crash-1.19381
barthoedemaker 9 months ago
@barthoedemaker
Slaterator 9 months ago
@Slaterator Yes, I wasn't saying slow decompression..but indeed rapid one. But let's wait for the investigation to continue, we both don't know what happened...

I hope this mystery comes to a conclusion soon!!
farrshhill 9 months ago
the crash of AF 447 is an incredible scandal.
MrHavana08 9 months ago
@MrHavana08 One possibility is that they got fooled by weather radar that showed them only smaller storm in front of that really big one that can be dangerous.
Anyways big parts like landing gears and engines were found from bottom recently, there is big chance that they find also black boxes, and if they work they maybe answer to that question too.

Simply type in PBS.com and click on NOVA. They'll offer you a number of shows. Click on the 447 option. Excellent. They talk about the unique conditions which may have lead to the crash and what the pilots could have done.

@superrcain
WickedlNl 9 months ago

Lol, case Boeing has never crashed, they have finally found the remains this week and hopefully the black box with it, I am 99% positive that this was pilot error, all other flights on route diverted that night due to bad climate conditions and severe turbulence, while this plane flew right into it, I was told this by an Air France Pilot and it makes sense, we will see, but Airbus have a better safety record than boeing
joshuanaconda 9 months ago
@joshuanaconda Why would you even start typing what you have when you so obviously have no clue on any of this. How would you then explain the data transmissions that the ACARS uploaded? How would you explain the fact that that one of the systems that governs altitude and the cockpit's interpretation of airspeed and altitude (the entire basis for human and computer decision making / situational awareness) generated fault codes and was malfunctioning? This is more likely an obstructed pitot tube.
RU4R33LR8N0W 9 months ago
@joshuanaconda I'm sure the families of the flight crews appreciate you ignorantly slandering their deceased loved ones from your parents' basement!! How considerate of you! right, cause Wikipedia is not what idiots read, try having a few conversations with actual pilots, doing some real research.
RU4R33LR8N0W 9 months ago
@joshuanaconda ...and check out Aeroperú Flight 603 for what I'd said about an obstructed (or malfunctioning) pitot tube. @monjexman whens the documentary on? and what channel?
7BJDX 10 months ago
@7BJDX I finally saw the new documentary yesterday, its a Nova special 'Flight 447' Really goood independent study on what happened that night, chain of events from a smaller storm blocking a huge storm in their path on radar. Supercooled water that froze over the pitot-static tube system, once you lose that, you lose all automated control, and the crew had to take over in extreme conditions and even the smallest of mistakes by them could've caused a stall and sent the plane downward
monjexman 10 months ago
Rather than this British anti-science anti-engineering anti-knowledge hand-wringing, I suggest you check out the NOVA episode online at PBS_dotorg about this flight. A very good case is made by real accident investigators for what happened, without the distracting bleatings of BBC talking heads and lawyers.

I will willingly transcribe them.
ginger0612 11 months ago
@ginger0612 They are NOT all of them transcribable! :D How on earth can you say anything else?? :P And that matters little when you cant find the bloody thing in the first place... :P
Inganotodden 11 months ago
@Inganotodden The point is that in almost all cases the recorders contain sufficient data to identify the cause. So the infrastructure required for live recording of data via telemetry is expensive, unnecessary, and above all distracting from the actual problem of flight safety. This one will be resolved eventually.

alruin4531 11 months ago
In the case of streaming the flight data and cockpit voice recording back to base, I wouldn't say cost was the only factor, not by a long shot. There's only so much radio spectrum bandwidth to go round, and the demands on it are already extremely heavy. In what channels should all this data be streamed? There's a hell of a lot of aircraft in the sky at any one time, and that means a hell of a lot of flight data. Recorders on aircraft are not ideal but the alternatives have their flaws too.

faridjabba 1 year ago
well AirFrance just owns the planes , but the equipment and the technology they need to get is from Airbus (also french company) 3M/year seems like a right number nowadays, still expensive though... I still wonder if it was really the tubes, it could explain part of the accident as the velocity misinformation and sure the weather conditions worsen the situation, but is still bizarre the coincidence. Anyway I wouldn't trust the government hands in these matters either =[

Failed pitot tubes and stormy weather can't be causes except if both pilots were drunk / K.O. That's just bullshit :P
they even can be without a storm --> see birgenair flight 301, aero peru flight 603.
jairrrrrr 1 year ago
@jairrrrrr failed pitot tubes can cause a stall/breakup of the aircraft. There is a very small range of speed which an aircraft can fly in at cruise. Too fast, the aircraft breaks up. Too slow, it stalls. The A330 has a window of something around 50 knots, or something. In addition, pilots slow the plane down when entering storms, so they would have no idea what speed they were going at.

Did the plane fall flat on its belly and break upon impact? Or did it break up in mid-air? What does the evidence show?
WanderingProphet 1 year ago
@Britishboyy1 Yes but you see, the petotubes on the airbus fleet were faulty and did not actually work much at all. This was because airbus disigned its aircraft to go to high altitudes. But the petrotubes were not changed to suit this hight flying. so the petotubes on the plane could have giving a miscalculation to the computer telling them they were flying when they were actually falling towards the ocean. And they fell flat which means you would have not noticed anything if you were on plane

eruditesickle0216 1 year ago
@eruditesickle0216
