  • Oh my, Bob Crane alone with a woman!! LOL

  • Bob Crane, the original Hollywood Gigolo!LOL!

  • You think ol' Bob had an erection during this?

  • this show had the most bizarre opening credits

  • This is Episode 6 - "But I Love My Wife," not the pilot! To my knowledge this episode is the only one that is really in circulation.

I am collector and have six episodes of this show on 16mm. I didn't know the pilot was titled "Second Start," but this YouTube video is definitely not the pilot. I always thought "Mid-term Blues" was the pilot.

  • @Calbear94 You are correct. I will amend this.

  • Does that intro sound allot like the A-Team? Wow. The 70's rock.

  • I think that this sounds a lot like Pat Williams wrote the theme song. Pat did most of (and the best) of the 1970s themes.

  • LOL! This is funny shit! Why did it get canceled?

  • Fuckers in the 70's had no taste so this show didn't last more than 13 weeks. Shitheads. If the ratings were higher this show may have went somewhere. Fuck.

  • @Brandon02852 there's a reason the ratings weren't higher....i'm surprised they even aired 5 of them. it's abhorrent. the writing is awful. the camera angles are amateur....and the opening credits are the first 10 minutes of the show. the writing kills or makes a show.

  • Amazing he was such a perv.

  • hooggaann!

  • 3:20. Apparently he doesn't realize this is Bob Crane.

  • @ridgerunner721601 The complaints came from people who never saw the show. You know. Just like complaints that are made today about shows.

  • Love those shots of big city skylines, pull-aways, zooms and whip-pans....Reminds me of the Bob Newheart Show.

  • Bob was quite the sex freak.

  • @BigDickMcGirk Which is what costed him his life.

  • I wonder with the advancements in DNA testing if a new test on the blood samples of Bob would change anything/?? Its been almost 20 years since they did a dna sample.. I think the last dna test was in 1990??

  • @jdgk1 Yes it was and it did not detect any blood from the sample they tested even though an initial blood test showed that the sample matched Bob's A+ blood type. So the sample they found in Carpenter's rental car was inconclusive.

  • @childofthemarshalsea I have the book here, and it says Bob's blood type was very rare: type B.. John's was A, though. A LOT of evidence was lost and it was before DNA testing, so John Carpenter got off (no pun intended).

  • does anybody where is more episodes of this show

  • @dxmania95 I'd like to see more episodes also. There were only five episodes made of this series so it was only on for a month and those episodes are now very hard to find.

  • I remember this show very vividly. I was only ten at the time, but it was funny and I liked it. That's why I couldn't understand WHY it was canceled. Of course, Summer of '78 came and I was blown away by the revelation of Bob Crane's death. I couldn't understand who would want to kill such an all 'round, lovable guy. It was then I recalled this show and thought what a break it would have been if it had caught on as a series.

  • This episode originally aired on March 6, 1975.

  • This series was originally "pencilled in" for the fall of 1974 (as "SECOND START"), to appear at 9:30pm(et) on Fridays following "SUNSHINE". However, the FCC forced NBC and the other two networks {at the time} to eliminate their plans for additional Saturday and Sunday night programming from 7-8pm(et), so all schedules were quickly "altered", with "THE BOB CRANE SHOW" and "SUNSHINE" temporarily postponed by NBC until March 1975, when they replaced "SIERRA" from 8-9pm on Thursdays..for 13 weeks..

  • I hav a question... how did Bob Crane die?

  • He was murdered in 1978. He was struck in the head while lying in bed.

  • Omg is that true? :(

  • Google Bob Crane Experience for more info about Bob.

  • Robert Graysmith of Zodiac Murder fame wrote a very informative book on the subject back in 1993 before the principle suspect's trial. I don't know if it is still in print but I recommend it for all those who are interested in the subject. It's called "The Murder of Bob Crane". His murder has never been solved and probably never will be.

  • I still believe to this day that his buddy did it...it just couldn't be proven...

  • I also believe that and had he gone to trial at the beginning of the case (as you may or may not know, it took the DA 16 years to finally bring to case to trial), there is a very good chance his friend would have been convicted. The DA at the time of the murder refused to prosecute because the cops never found any DNA evidence to link his friend to the murder and the murder weapon was never found. In my opinion, it was a missed opportunity.

  • Well, is was reported that they also had blood in his car, but the technology for DNA testing wasn't as sophisticated then as today.

  • They did a DNA test on the blood sample you are referring to but they did it 12 years after the murder and the test revealed that the sample did not contain blood. But they also did a lab test on the sample at the time of the murder and that test showed that it was blood and that it was Crane's blood type. Was the sample corrupted after 12 years? I'm not a DNA expert but since the sample was not stored properly at the police lab, it went bad and maybe could not be properly tested after 12 years.

  • Exactly. John "Carpy" Carpenter. Theres no doubt he did it. He changed his story several times and was the only guy seen with Bob that night. (That may not mean much but they were seen arguing at the night club just before the murder.) Bob was telling him to fuck off and quit bothering him. He was a hanger on and was only around for his ability to hook in the skanks. Bobs insatiable sexual appetite cost him his life. John Carpenter died before good DNA tech. go rent the movie Auto Focus.

  • @stinkriverstudios John Carpenter was scum but I am not 100% sure he killed Bob. Why? He wasn't smart enough for one thing. Also Bob pissed off many women, their husbands, and boyfriends. There are a lot of people who could have done this besides Carpenter.

The movie Auto Focus is a pile of shit and should not be relied upon for any factual information.

  • @liarsclub75 Excellent point. Could of been one of those babes that didnt know they were being taped and then found out. Or their hubby/boyfriend. It is an endlessly facinating subject. Have you seen the movie "Auto Focus"? Excellent movie. Greg Kaneer (spelling) should of gotten an Academy Award.

  • @stinkriverstudios I was saying the movie was bad as a reference to reality, but you are right, Greg Kinnear did a bang up job as Bob Crane.

Larry Hovis (Carter on HH) told me that all the Hogan's Heroes actors got death threats after Bob died. Bob's wife Sigrid Valdis believed it was Carpenter who killed Bob. She never took off her wedding band or had another relationship after Bob's death.

The cops did a terrible, botched job on solving this murder.

  • @liarsclub75 i agree. I bought the movie Auto Focus because i was more curious about the 50 minute documentary that they included "Murder in Scottsdale." The documentary was far more fascinating than the movie. And i do agree the police botched this murder case from the start.

  • @stinkriverstudios He may not have done it but I suspect he knew who did. He called Bob's flat on the day of the murder and when a cop answered the phone, John never asked what the cops was doing there and then John called Bob Jr. and told him that if Bob Jr. ever needed anything to call him. It may not be courtroom evidence but it does raise a lot of suspicions. As you know Carpenter died in 1998 and took all his secrets with him to the grave. I don't think we'll ever know the truth now.

  • I don't remember this pilot show at all. Was it ever broadcasted?

  • Yes, in 1975. There were 14 episodes made.

  • Thanks

  • @liarsclub75 I remember seeing Bob on a talk show plugging this. He was talking about all the flack he took about turning the holocaust into a sitcom then he went on to say that he was no different than Alan Alda. I my self liked this show and was dissappointed when it cancelled

  • This is amazing for us fans who weren't around before Bob was killed

  • great vids.

  • Awesome!!!! I had no idea!!!! Thank you! Bob Crane is the best!!!

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!! I've been waiting so long to see this show! One of two holy grails for me....the other being "Chicago Teddy Bears" with John Banner. :)
