@SaPe1994 Because Animals are often victimized by a system they have no part or say in (obviously). They are truley innocent. Most humans however, are monsters and ecological rapists that have been driven by an out of control world-wide industrialized economy. I think its pretty natural for most people (at least for me) to have more sympathy for animals than for other people, as most all misery humanity endures is brought upon itself.

@eljagg01 I think there is a moral gradient depending upon how advanced an animal is. I think it's self evident that killing an ant is not morally equivalent to killing a human being. If you accept that second statement then how do you avoid the first?

Of course you're right that we too are animals. I think we are uniquely advanced and precious but primates, for example, are also to be treated with great respect.

But surely it's clear enough what I mean when I say that an ant is more advanced than a single cell organism, a snail is yet more advanced, a mouse yet more so, etc? Most animals are more at the ant level than at the mouse level yet the video implicitly agrees that invertebrates don't matter: it doesn't show any.

@137Newton There are many scientific documentaries about just how complex ant and termite colonies are, possibly even more complex than human activity. One over 30 yrs old shows how all life on earth will die out if all ant-termite colonies perish. The emit more carbon dioxide that all other life forms combined, hence feed the vegetation need which produces all oxygen we animals depend on. We are all connected.

Do ants "love and suffer"? "None are free unless all are free" can't possibly apply to insects. Animals are not equal to humans. I care a lot about how we treat primates and much less about how we treat fish.

@annebanda1 Animals ARE victims. Honestly, if some other species did the practices we did on animals to humans, we'd be horrified. Dogs are omnivores, cats are carnivores. They have physical needs that we don't. Dogs need meat more urgently than humans, and cats can eat some vegetables, but are true carnivores nonetheless. Humans ARE animals, we not much more than petty inventions so we can feel "superior". But intrinsically, we ARE equal. I also go for human issues. Not just animal ones.

Protein is necessary for human health. Sure you can replace it with supplements, but supplements are expensive especially if you are needing it for a family of 4. Protein is a part of every cell in your body, and no other nutrient plays as many different roles in keeping you alive and healthy. Protein gives you essential energy. Just like anything else in life it can be over done.

Human intestines are 25 feet long & cannot process meat completely -- it piles up in your colon about 1 lb every 10 years -- just rotting.

A true carnivore, like a tiger, has only 5 feet of small intestines. Quite a difference.

Proteins like peas, beans, lentils, nuts & seeds are easily digested by humans.

We certainly do NOT need meat for protein, that's the whole point of the film, we can make lifestyle choices to avoid animal and human suffering, and going vegetarian then vegan is the easiest way to vote with your fork 3 times a day for a kinder world, better health, and use only 20% as much land to produce your food as a meat eater does. And livestock farming is responsible for 18% of greenhouse gases. Go vegan, or eat as much vegan food as you can, everybody wins.

Nice video. The best part is when he says that we are connected in an evolutionary way, and this also makes us connected morally. Why do humans beings think of themselves better than animals? I can't stop thinking of the way the white men treated the slaves or women in the past, considering then inferior.. I hope one day the respect for animals reaches all parts of the world. Test drugs on assassins (shown to have no respect for human lives) instead of animals, for example.
