  • 0:27 He's taking a shit.

  • I totally forgot about this version. Thanks for posting it. But it's hard to see him/her pacing.

  • I realllllllllly want an aardvark.<3 ive been obssesed with them ever since i watched the episoid that this sont was in with my brother last week.!

  • Maybe your backyard animal was an armadillo; they look kind of aardvarky.

  • That's true that Armadillo's almost look like Aardvark's, however, the animal I saw in my backyard had fur on him and I looked on the internet and I saw pictures of Armadillo's and none of them had fur on their bodies. All those Armadillo's looked like their whole bodies were hard like a shell. The animal I saw in my backyard had a long tail, fur all brushed down, ears pointing up, and a nose shaped like an elephant but smaller and the front of the nose shaped like a pig like an Aardvark.

  • brings back memories when I see an aardvark. I saw one at Omaha Zoo.

  • lol! i like this song i remember it from the 80's when i was kid. i know it's from the 70's. i think elmo tried to revive this song during a sketch of elmos's world.nothin like the original. "i'm a aardvark and i'm proud, i'm a aardvark and i'm happy!"good times!

  • Oh the memories!!

  • This was where I 1st heard of aardarks, and for years I thought it was the only word spelled with a double 'a'.

  • Who here has ben to the Henry Doorly Zoo uin Omaha Nebraska and seen the aardvarks? I hve visited From Denver Colorado, Buut when you see them or any aardvark, Don't you think of this clip? I sure do.

  • when I was alot younger, I used to think he said "Arch Fart" instead of aardvark. I was that kind of kid who insisted on hearing potty jokes all the time.

  • Im sure like any wild animal it can be fierce and attack wit its claws if you make them. They can break open tremitr nest just think what wold happen if they got a hold of you. So maybe is is not free, But fierce? If you make them yes.

  • This poor thing is neither fierce OR free. It is pacing all around this terrible cage. Sad

  • This poor thing is neither fierce or free. It is pacing wildly in a cage with no way out.

  • Why do big bird and the other animals appear at the end of the aardvark clip?

  • if i can remember correctly, i think this was part of a sesame street video dedicated to diversity/self-esteem, etc and it featured big bird and co who would introduce the videos

  • When I saw these in Omaha in the zoo I thought of this clip.

  • this brought back SOOOOOO many childhood memories. THANKS!

  • For those who don't know, the word aardvark comes from the Afrikaans language, and literally means "earth pig". Afrikaans is spoken in South Africa, and is descended from the Dutch language that settlers from the 1600's or so brought with them.

  • Yes, I heard that Aardvarks are found in Africa but, the strange thing is that, I once saw an Aardvark in my backyard and I'm from the United States. I'm sure it was an Aardvark because it had the same shape of the nose like on this skit, where the nose was shaped like an elephant, and the front of the nose was shaped like a pig. Also, I looked up on the internet other animals like "beaver" "gopher", "ground hog", and "possum" but, those animals didn't have the same nose like an "Aardvark."

  • @afriendofbean There's no way that could have been an aardvark (unless one escaped from the zoo). It could have been a wild pig.

  • Maybe one Aardvark escaped from the zoo but, my house is not close to the zoo, unless there was a hole in it's cage and it escaped at night when the zoo was closed and the one I saw in my backyard must have walked a long distance when everyone was asleep that nobody even driving on the road saw it because of the dark at night. Also, I looked on the internet "wild pig" also called "wild boar" and the pictures of the wild pig/wild boar didn't have the same nose and tail I saw in my backyard.

  • @afriendofbean It was probably EL CHUPACABRA.

  • I looked up on the internet Chupacabra but, it didn't look like the animal I saw in my backyard. The animal I saw in my backyard had a long tail, the fur was all brushed down, the ears were pointing up, and it's nose was shaped like an elephant but smaller and the front of the nose was shaped like a pig where everything looked like an Aardvark. I looked other animals up like beaver, gopher, ground hog, and possum but, they didn't have anything what I described about my backyard animal.

  • hahahaha! I love it! I haven't seen this since 1986. I was 5 then.

  • LOVED this one as a kid!! I'm pretty sure I first learned what an aardvark was from this clip (as did many kids, probably).

  • I remember Big Bird singing a song that started with "I'm no aardvark" (tune was the same); anyone know if that clip's floating somewhere?

  • "until I meet another aardvark who's bigger than me" - a line that has stayed with me forever! Love Joe Raposo!

  • when I watched this I was like, "What's an Ark Bark" LOL

  • This video surprised me because I've never seen an Aardvark in a zoo. Are they rare animals?

  • maybe. They live in Africa

  • not rare, but they usually only come out at night, and seeing as they eat ants and termites, they can be difficult to provide for in captivity.

  • What zoo is this? This may have changed againz Zoos are trying to get rid of bars in front of encloseures like that. Some animals have to have them, But for those that don't need them their may not add them so it won't seem like a cage but an evierment.

  • @lion371: This clip came from the early 70s; zoos have changed a WHOLE lot in 40 years!

  • I am also a huge animal lover!!!!!!!!!! <3 <3!!

  • This is one of my favorite Sesame Street songs. That could be because I'm an aardvark fancier.

  • An aardvark fancier than what?

  • Huh?

  • good one ROTFL, this one wil have me giggling all night :D

  • Oh, I get it now *smacks self in head from own stupidity*

    Duhhhhh!

  • The 70s aardvark is much more defiant than the 90s aardvark. Must be the tiny cage.

  • yeah, poor thing is pacing and generally being neurotic, thank god zoos have changed.

  • Very empowering. Aardvark pride! Whoooo!

  • I love this song.
