My dad was a field medic who served from 67 to 68, he got half a Vietnamese grenade stuck in his leg and had to go back after the shrapnel was taken out. He also got to drive a tank and a jeep, and got to save his best friends life.
I am a cousin of Capt. Francis Michael Girardot 25Avn/25th Infantry. He was KIA 16 December 1969. He was my hero as a young kid. I would love to communicate with any of his friends or associates. My email is johnduffy0013@gmail.com. Many thanks for all your courage!!!
I served with the 116th AHC from Sept.1966 to Oct.1967 supporting the 25th Inf. Div. in Cu Chi. The Hobo Woods, Michelin Plantation, the Iron Triangle and the Black Virgin mountain were familar LZ's. It was not a resort area. God Bless all those who served and especially my brothers who did not make it home. RV
Neil Higgins, my deceased uncle, served with this unit at this time. He was a fine person and his war experience drove his future life. He cared much for all life after the war. He is one of the greatest individuals I have known personally.
I was there dec68-dec69 . i was ncoic of the accounting section of finance. i also was there during the construction of the swimming pool as to the effect my hootch was 3 buildings away .if you view the pool scene just count 3 over right side towards the church that was my place
i was looking for anyone who knew my father, his name was Gonzalo J. Saenz, he was a sgt. in vietnam 25th inf div. 66-68 he might have gone by gun not to sure he didnt talk much about, only to other vets, wanted to know more bout his time there i know he has two purple hearts. if any one can help. my e-mail is saenz_g@yahoo.com or my FB is Gonzalo E. Saenz
I was there in '66. never saw the pool, the fun times other guys had at base camp. however, i did get a good foot tour of the country side and lots of B1A's. propaganda is such a sweet diversion from reality. i really like the ones the viets now show when depicting the fine engineering of those trap doors and the artificial foilage. i don't recall the sofistication but i do recall the reality.
I was in cu chi for 1 year april 68 to april 69 at the 20th trans company it was fairly safe till the vc shot rocket and motars in and they tried to overrun the base camp a few times, I was lucky I worked on choppers and had it better than the fighting men of the 25th infantry they had it hard.
I was in Cu Chi in 68-69...25th Inf Div...Hit with mortars and rockets almost daily and at night..a bitch during the monsoon season.....WE WERE SOLDIERS!!
My Father Sergeant Leonard J. Blackburn served in the 25th Infantry Division in Cu Chi, Vietnam in '68-'70. Your video is great. My father left Vietnam with a lot of problems. He has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder very bad. I'm doing a lot of research on it now. I plan to help the veterans when I get older. Being 17 years old, I'm just now starting to understand my dad's problems. I want to make him proud.
Served 1969-70 with 2/22nd Mechanized, Co. B, 4th platoon, 4th squad. About the only time we go to get into Chu Chi was for stand down after a long mission. I remember the Ilikai East restaurant and bar.
One was a big pool shaped hole lined with rubber fabric, the other was a regular pool. I think the regular pool was for the officers because I never used it. Cu chi was a fairly safe place. The rocket and mortar attacks only came about once a month and usually it was only one or two at a time. I was there from March of 1969 to November of 1970, when the 25th Infantry Division pulled out. A usual tour of duty was 12 months but I extended twice because the weed was soooooo damn good!
cymbali, you should be ashamed of yourself, claiming that you are a Vietnam veteran, claiming that u were in Cu Chi from 1967 to 1968, your profile shows that u are 30 years old, u were never even born at that time, i bet that u were never in
the service, period. and the reason that I"m angry, is that my husband is a combat wounded Vietnam veteran!
I was in Cu Chi for about 2 months Aug and part of Sept '67 then in the field and up to Tay Ninh. I didn't even know there was a pool or a college course. Best kept secret from most soldiers....
ninefin, you claim you were Cu Chi, in Aug. of 67, your profile shows that you are 43 years old, do the math, so you were 1 year old when you went to Vietnam, i can honestly tell you how lucky you are that you was Never there.
I was there, too - '68, 69 - I designed and painted the 'Hawaii' decorations around the pool area ;-) I hopped choppers not knowing where they were going - what was I thinking!!!! Joined the Combat Artists Team. Those were some times! Glad I made it out! -s
