  • Shut up and enjoy the song :D I miss this music...and I miss the years when I first heard it

  • Blame Scotiabank and the Edmonton Oilers for trading Gretzky!!!!!!!!! O.K O.K. Blame Soctiabank and ummmm.... Alan Thicke?!?!?!?!?!

  • Why do people never blame the original artist for selling the rights to their song?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the little Canuck no-name bank cashed the check.

  • @FunkyMothaFunksta I hope that limb breaks......

  • It does sound canadian now that you say it. I love canadian radio, and I live in the states.

  • darius is a fins fan

  • Friends OST!

  • everything is blue

  • I find the original 54-40 version is far better. This is a pretty rough, amateurish cover. The technical is accurate (too accurate maybe, like a copy without any originality) but the singing is icky.

  • @francblack I like this version because it is rough. Kind of like why I like Soul Asylum songs.

  • <3 Friends

  • hootie !!! que du bonheur

  • Both Versions Are Awesome Theres No Comparing

  • not a chance, 54- 40 is so much better, but then again music is pretty subjective, so enjoy!

  • Knowing this is a cover, and knowing Hootie covered it, this version is MILES better, in my opinion. Love 'em.

  • @LastGunFighter2 Relax Tyrone it was just a really bad joke implying some white peoples skin is so pale it's almost blinding. MLK Jr. wouldn't be very proud of your youtube etiquette.

  • @mjordan1998 hmmm i always thought it meant that the girl was so pretty it made him go blind.

  • Can't help but think of Friends... sorry but I had to say it!

  • I like this song and this band so there this song means something to me

  • "hold me hold me cause i wanna get higher and higher" I cant get enough of that part

  • @flip103333 kjfvakjgghgoedylgjdfgllsdfglkjgaedlkgjsrelylgjdszgjdalogjsl;gjrselophjvljsoutgoafaejgpgjsedogujdzpogvadzgsdjhgoesjgoihfxfg fat fofa

  • @youngblood468 cool beans

  • Great song... Hootie's vocals a nice cover of the CDN band's sweet tune!

  • I miss you Tanya!

  • i had NO idea how old this song is...but i LOVE it: ^-^♥

  • 14 people are confused by the deal that love has shown them.

  • Just to let you all know, in case some of you did not know, Hootie covered this song by a little Canadian group called 54-40. I find it incredible as 54-40 is a small time group in Canada and for this reason I find it incredible that Hootie was ever even exposed to this song in the first place. Bit please check out 54-40 they have some powerful songs with some GREAT songwriting! Cheers.

  • @brotherjesus FUCKING 54-40!!! FUCK YESS!!!

  • That's because H&TBF backed 54-40 back many years ago and they really liked this particular song of 54-40's. I commented on another video about H&TBF having the lyrics different from the original version - "higher and higher", should be "high and higher".

  • @brotherjesus Agreed, very under rated group

  • @brotherjesus Awesome song no matter who sings it...will have to look up 54-40

  • 60's? this dude was a kid back then or not even thought of...

  • everytime i wack my wang i go blind...lol

  • @kidlou good song to jack off to

  • @cheesynounou lmao

  • @cheesynounou .... Thanks for that comment... I Have not laughed so hard in a long time......

  • @MegaSteeltown ahahaha

  • @cheesynounou OMG, u are not right! Too Funny!

  • I remember listening to this song in the 60s

  • @cheesynounou The original by 54-40 only came out in 1986! lol

  • @cheesynounou 60s? The song didn't come out till the 80s!

  • my fav hootie song yeahhhh

  • is this in cracked rear view?

  • Respond to this video... No. It's on the "Friends" sound track.

  • Every morning I get up and I try to feel alive but I can't!

  • Somewhere over there, there's a purpose! there's a CARE FOR FREE!

  • 54-40 original is 1000 times better..

  • 54 40

  • Thanks for posting this song. No thanks for arguing. Peace in my one-eyed beast, bitches.

  • i told my boyfriend that i go blind every time i look at him and he got mad at me.

  • @ashweefbaby10 that sux lol

  • @brovell lol yeah. i was just trying to romance the bastard

  • @ashweefbaby10 well he probably thinks its an insult..esp if he's a lilly white boy with no tan lol..

  • Its not to often you see ya Black macke playing rock and country its very aewsome

  • Ssomewhere over there, theres a purpose theres a care FOR FREE!

  • darius rucker probably one of the best male voices we have too bad hes gone country

  • YEESSSS!! this is some good shit right here, brings back my past and I just found out that this guy is killing the country scene as well!!

  • This is a great song. I miss good rock music

  • And here I thought the song was about going blind from masturbation, hmm, well maybe the guy below is right and it is Jesus. Although I've never whacked it to a crucifix.

  • Hmm...

I think this is about how religion has confused some folks walk with...or view of GOD.

    Based on the lyrics...

    Originally...I thought-

Thanks for providing the lyrics...first time i got the song for what it is...in my opinion.

    ;0)

  • A great cover of 54-40's original!! :-D

  • @BRBluebird You know what it really is a great cover, lost of soul in it. You can tell how much the band members appreciated 54-40's music, while at the same time bringing their own original sound to it.

  • this song fits when goku uses solar flare on vegeta(great ape)

  • @CensedSonic

    Fail, derp style...

  • My favorite song

  • bored at seeing the same pics flashing every couple of seconds great song though

  • In the morning I get up and I try to feel alive BUT I CAN'T!!!!

  • hootie needs too come back and do a remake!! we need more hootie!! no more bieber please..lol even the jonas brothers took a break!! rofl

  • I LOVE THIS SONG

  • Brings back my childhood....

  • The bass guitar is the hook, fun song.

  • These are great lyrics of a person's turning to love for meaning in this world that hasn't fulfilled them.

  • kerou16, I don't know where you're from but if we had more people thinking like you this world would be a lot better place!!

  • I <3 Hootie!!!!!! Rucker is awesome

  • "Everytime I look at you, I go blind"

    Now THAT'S ugly!

  • @lunareclipse0629 lol

    btw

you are the top comment , congrats :)

  • come back hoot!

  • hear them on friends. Didn't know they where a real band!

  • I love hootie and you can all blowfish!!! haha

  • i'm from England and i've got to say no ones really heard of hootie and the blowish and to be honest i'm not a huge fan, but for some reason this particular song is just one of my all time favourite songs

  • my all-time favorite Hootie and the Blowfish song. Makes me think of my son when he was just a little boy. Holding him and dancing and singing along with this song. The look on his face. the love. the sentiment blows me away every time. He's a 6'3" 16 year old now, but I still feel like that when I hear this song. Thanks H&B!

  • Love!!

  • ya know... it kinda sounds like he's talking about his weiner

  • No matter if Hoots covered it from 54-40, its the base line is ripped from War's Summertime written 15 years earlier, sped up a wee bit. The War version is on UTube

Maybe War borrowed the base line from some Mariachi street busker. Its all connected.

  • Hootie and the Blowfish covered this song......,OK

  • @bahashawa1 Who cares they're the ones that made it famous. Fuck this other band you're talking about.

  • @posty92 Wow , you are very intelligent , great grammer , and understanding where music comes from . I bow down to you . Keep posting so we learn just how messed up you are !! :)

  • @bahashawa1 *sigh* I just have to... grammar*...

  • @thisiswilson2 My Bad , Grammar !! You are Kewl !!!!!!

  • @posty92 Thank you very much .

  • Reminds me of my cat

  • a great 54-40 song , Hootie and the blowfish did a good job covering it !!!!!

  • 9 people like dudes

  • I think it is funny when people refer to Darius Rucker as "Hootie". I guess the other guys are blowfish.

  • @MyPsychosisDeepens wait, I thought Hootie was the microphone??

  • what a cool voice. Not a country fan but this hits the spot for some reason. Reminds me of Canadian band Bare Naked Ladies. Must be the harmonies or somethin. Anyway I like this so thanks for puttin it up.

  • @59supercool ... Its not country genious. Its old school rock with a liiiiittle bit of surf music.

  • Nowadays Darius Rucker is a country singer.

  • @iw32 Even though he is a Country Singer, that doesn't mean that he's given up on the band. He stated recently in an interview that there will be more music from Hottie & the Blowfish somewhere down the road in the near future, so stay tuned for it.

  • @MrSteveRiker I hope so. He shouldn't be wasting his talents on country "music".

  • @MeanGene79 um, country music is awesome. If you're not smart enough to appreciate it you should probably not admit it on youtube. Country musicians are the only ones left who actually play their instruments instead of dubbing over all the tracks and autotuning it. How about you listen to some, open your ears, open your mind and shut your mouth? Do the world a favor and keep your awful opinions to yourself. K THX!

  • @drumma5 By playing their instruments, you must mean just flicking a few strings on their guitars. Country isn't music, it's just a bunch people with hillbilly voices talking about drinking and all that crap.

  • @drumma5 Do the world a favour and take a chill pill. I have just as much a right to express my opinions on YouTube as anyone else, regardless of whether or not you agree with them. Thanks and have a great day.

  • all of hootie's tracks should be on rockband

  • How the fuck did Pot, Canada, Healthcare, and Alcohol become debate topics on a fucking Hootie and the Blowfish song? I'm sure there are forums for this shit.

  • @Numberoneblind Probably because there's idiots here who insist this is the original when it clearly isn't.

  • Just to point out - Hootie and The Blowfish were around long before the cover version from 54-40

  • @izaakbenjamin You mean the cover version from Hootie. I thought we'd been through this already on the 54-40 version's video.

  • @MeanGene79 Don't start in on this one either.

  • @izaakbenjamin I laugh in your general direction. I'm sure about a million people have corrected you on this already, but I couldn't help myself. I mean, google is pretty easy to use. It only would've taken you a few mouse clicks and a few typed words to realize that the 54-40 version was released in 1986.

  • @lexakate79 I like how you guys always say "just check google" or something like that. But no one can make direct reference to a reliable source that contradicts what I say. That's because THIS IS THE ORIGINAL. Rucker penned it himself.

  • @izaakbenjamin Sorry but Hootie and the Blowfish toured with 54-40 who wrote the song originally. They (H & the B) liked it, asked permission and recorded it.

  • @roxngal I love how people like you come up with these "facts" out of thin air. I'd like to see some documentation of the so called exchange. If 50-40 toured with Hootie, then I doubt HATBF asked them for any songs. Your glam rock friends probably learned a lot from being with some old time classic rockers.

  • @izaakbenjamin I could link you to some things, but I'm sure you'd just say that anyone can post anything on the internet and it doesn't mean anything. So instead, I ask you this. Why would H&BF have written a song and then not put it on an album, or ever perform it in anyway until 10 years after another band did? It's true that H&BF did form in 1986, the year this song was originally released, but they didn't release so much as an EP demo until the early 90's, long after 54-40 was famous.

  • @izaakbenjamin Also, where's your reliable source that says that Rucker penned it? And why would they put the song on their cover albums? You can't 'cover' your own original material.

  • Comment removed

  • @izaakbenjamin So I suppose you also believe that Jefferson Starship is the original author of "We Built This City", right?... and Not Glass Tiger who wrote and recorded it nearly 2 yrs before...

  • THE 90's..... nuff said

  • classic song

  • aww this song is so sweet <3

  • GSP!!!!!!

  • gotta love hootie and the blowfish. well done

  • i am crazy about this song. absolutely amazing

  • Nine people don't go blind everytime they look at her.

  • sorry america, couldn't hear over our free health care...assholes... canada kicks ass

  • @Joshua346 and have you ever had a pressing health issue that you've had to wait eleven months to see a doctor for, because medicare takes so long to process and there aren't enough doctors in your province? I had to go the states so that I could get seen. Every country has it's problems, we have less but they still exist.

  • cant we just enjoy the song

  • Yall americans have nothing to do but diss Canada, suck out wunna mothers and enjoy the rasshole music regardless of what nation or artist produced the bands.

  • every body frogets about these guys i hate it these guys are the best singers in he world

  • im bout to lay pipe, thanks hootie

  • lol all of you are fuckin idiots for fighting with eachother on youtube comments.

  • @michaelmjc24 (asside) Agreed... you should check out some of the comments on Robby Romero's (Lead for "Red Thunder") HEARTBEAT Video... most of the racist hate comments are made by the Native Americans who HATE white people... it sounds like they're ready to start WWIII...

  • And it's a shame because it's such a good song... take a listen to it... you'll like it if you like this style of music...

  • @michaelmjc24 awww.The little dildo fucked beach punk has a chip on his shoulder.awwww

  • @ksamp1224 There's no such thing as aboot, no one says that. We are a real country by the way. Don't put down an entire nation because a few people from that nation pissed you off. All countries in the world are the same really, because they all have people just like you and me. People like to compare countries and make up reasons to hate other countries.. that's so counterproductive. Canada and the USA are both awesome places, and both have problems like every country does. Don't spread hate :(

  • @kerou16 Nah we're not all the same. Don't be naive.

  • @kerou16 that sounds like what someone from an inferior country would say

  • @kerou16 I work @ a hotel and I get older canadians in all the time that say "aboot" or "what's that aboot, eh?" You may not hear it in your neck of the woods, but I can assure you that people do in fact say it. It's like the U.S. having southern accents "Y'all" and people in the pennsylvania area saying "Yuse guys gotta get that done" or "How many of yuns want something to eat" for example. Different dialects all over, nothing to be ashamed of nor get into arguments over, it's nature & life

  • @ladychamberlainisit I agree i am canadian and when i focus on how many times i say eh, all the time. 1 thing i noticed thought is the generation differences, younger people dont say eh as much as older people do but yeah everyone says it all the time

  • @1990childs lol, I know what you meen, I have an aunt that is from germany & she says "nay" all the time. The when we say something about it she denies it, lol, then catches herself doing it. It's amazing how many different dialects you have in your own backyard. Sometimes it's hard to understand what people are saying "cuz" they "yuse" different versions of words, but it's fascinating to hear them all. You say "toe may toe" I say "to motto" lol

  • @kerou16 word <3

  • is it just me or is the background music slightly , oddly, similar to a song from Grease?

  • I always dance like a striper to this song..... not sure why?

  • Comment removed

  • This song reminds me of a friend of mine that passed away. She loved Hootie and the Blowfish

  • what album is this on? i cant find it anywhere

  • @Mrbeanoe this song is from the "Friends" soundtrack

  • @divercxi thanks man!

  • @divercxi nope its on "scattered smothered and covered"

  • @Mrbeanoe

Same here dude, I bought every Hootie & the blowfish album just for this song, and it wasn't even there.

  • this song makes me think of u!!!!! :)

  • NY Governor Paterson's favorite song!

  • Darius Rucker is a lyrical and melodic genius - just like so many black innovators from Huddy Ledbetter to Michael Jackson - often imitated never bettered. I just wish he was still writing such innovative tunes.

  • is this song about the sun?

  • i love darius rucker =) and this song is like super awesome. i just wanna dance to it lol.

  • Darius Rucker has a new album coming out soon.

  • 54-40s version is wayy better yahll. Go Canada, ....

  • great stoner song of all time

  • Thanks for the post.
