I thank you so much for having this on youtube. My mother always said that she wanted Amazing Grace sung by Tennessee Ernie Ford at her funeral. Well, like a fool I put off getting a copy and then I lost her within 13 days of putting her in the hospital. None of her albums had this song. So we down loaded it and played it at her funeral just like she wanted.
This is from Ernie's Capitol LP "Hymns at Home," which he recorded in his hometown church in Bristol, TN, with 30 family embers & friends as vocal accompaniment. Each recording on the album is sung in old-time gospel fashion & so emotionally, especially "My Jesus, I Love Thee." One of my favorite albums. Thanks for posting.
@Sshelly34213 That was the style of the 1950's - I don't like it either. The choir usually sang all the chorus and the featured singer sang the lyrics. Awful ain't it?
@legendary240 I don't mean to be a jerk, but...it kind of does ruin it. There are a lot of cases in which a choir was used very nicely in the 50s...but I don't think this is the case. I just don't think it's fits very well.
Did they record separately from Ernie Ford? That could explain their absolutely disinterest, it's almost like they're detached from the song.

0_o Just outstanding!! Thanx for sharing! I'm searching for an LP version of "Children go where I send thee". But there's only the live version. Do you have it? and if so, could you upload it?
Christmas can not come and go without this man's voice raised in song in our home.
Love, Grandma
