How can this road call itself an Autobahn? Lanes are too narrow, the curve radius is too low, partially no guard rails, acceleration and deceleration are lanes way too short, some signs look like 1989... and lets not talk about the surface condition.......

@pi314159t thats why tourists shouldn't drive in berlin :P it is called "Stadtautobahn" (city-autobahn) so if you don't know how big your car is you shouldn't drive in berlin ;)

@Jamari17 In Boston we used to have a "stadtautobahn" called the Central Artery which has since been torn down and replaced with an undergound freeway (true autobahn). But there are still a lot of highways in the eastern US that are still like the former road in Boston.

@Jamari17 Sometimes they are. Here in the US the individual travel lanes can be as narrow as 10 feet (3.0 m)! And the video of your stadtautobahn shows travel lanes of fairly normal width (11 to 12 ft) (3.3 - 3.6 m) except for that chokedown in the construction zone at the Spandauer Damm. BTW we have those, too.

@Jamari17 Here's an example. Very narrow travel lanes on a city interstate in Brooklyn, NY and the Brookyn Bridge.

But I never understood why anyone would rather live in Berlin than Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt other then slightly lower cost of living..

And to airtouch01 ; your absoluteley right about that the cars in Berlin are much older then those of Frankfurt..

Good observation, and you are right. Compared to other German cities - especially in South Germany - Berlin is poorer. Unemployment is about 15%. To make the best of it the current mayor called Berlin 'poor but sexy'...

The clip wasn't taken during rush hour, I'd say the traffic density is about average. The route covers the highway section of Germany with the highest traffic density, nearly 200,000 vehicles per day on average, one of the reasons why I recorded the clip. During rush hour there are often jams.
