@Evin07 Heh, yeah. Definitely sounds like circa-1998 VH1 to me. The best period of the channel IMO.........they were long removed from airing only adult contemporary and jazz music, but before they basically copied MTV's playlist and aired Top 40 and Hip-Hop music. I liked that they somewhat distinguished themselves from what MTV was airing, musically. Now they're both interchangeable in that aspect.
@SuperAdventures Definitely 1998. I remember I was in 10th grade rushing out late for school always hearing this, so many memories... And you're right about how they've changed. MTV used to be THE place for music around 1992-1996, Vh1 was always playing catch up. MTV was Unplugged sessions, Vh1 was Storytellers. 1998-1999 was the era when music revived from the mid-90's slump and both channels were great.
These days its iPod's, iTunes, and Jersey Shore...lol, maybe I'm just getting old.
It was definitely a morning fixture of mine during 1999-2000, when I'd be getting ready for school. I miss it a lot. I w/ish I could see the "commercial break" bumpers, which were culled off of this one.
Wow, I haven't seen this in years. I wish the old "Insomniac Music Theater" bumper was up too. I remember being slightly creeped out by that one as a kid when I would randomly see it very early in the morning.
Yeah, I miss "Insomniac Music Theater" too. It was 10 years ago this summer that I first saw it and its creepy, random bumpers. A snippet of the Bjork song "Possibly Maybe" was used as Insomniac's theme song. Around 2003-2004 they removed the "Insomniac Music Theater" title card (w/ the old VH1 logo) and replaced it with some generic crap, and then in summer 2005 they replaced it altogether with the seldom-seen "Nocturnal State". I miss VH1's old music blocks.
i was young when they still had insomniac music theature. i fucking shit my pants cause i thought the starting was scary as hell. now im older and i want to see it.but the replaced it with noctural state. and now instead ofshowing it at 3:00am its 4:00am.
Weird. But, I remember seeing this lots of times when I was four years old, watching the tv and not knowing what the hell I was watching. Little would I know I'd miss that years later T_T .. this and pop-up video.
I think CardioVideo came on at 5 and Morning Mix came on at 6. I only remember it because I remember the voiceover when the commercials were over. It went "Pop, Rock, Alternative, and a dash of Soul. You're watching the VH1 Morning Mix."
Hey, I remember "CardioVideo." It came on very early. There was a period in 2001, I believe when VH1 didn't have Jump Start. CardioVideo was following by "Morning Mix."
BTW, some trivia, the guy who composed the theme music for "CardioVideo" (Salvatore Poe), also composed the hard-rocking theme to VH1's "Behind the Music" series. Notice the similar guitar riffs!!!
Finally, someone responds to this video! I thought I was the only one alive who remembered "CardioVideo"!
I'm still actively looking for the commercial bumpers to "CardioVideo" and bumpers for other long-defunct VH1 shows such as "Insomniac Music Theater", "Back2Back", "Crossroads", "VH1 Soul". I miss the old, low-key VH1 of the 1990's.
Heh, sounds like typical '90's VH1 to me. =) I miss the variety and creativity that they created their bumpers and programming blocks with. Nowadays, ALL of that, even over at sister station MTV, is sterile and boring, with the focus shifting to their dumb websites.
I wish I could come by more footage of '90's VH1. I personally started watching it (and music videos in general) in November 1997, when I first stumbled upon Chumbawamba's "Tubthumping" not only playing on VH1, but also on MTV!
By the end of this, my ears were almost trained to hear Lenny Kravitz's guitar intro to "Fly away" come on right after.

"Jump Start" was the successor to "CardioVideo".

I remember there was also a block called "Sex Appeal". IIRC, the opening featured stock footage of a train entering a tunnel (Get it?)
