The American Robert Goddard was the most famous rocket scientist in the world, and the Russians and Germans copied and improved on his research. When Germans were brought to America to work on rockets they all expected Goddard to be in charge but were shocked to learn that the Americans had no idea who he was! (He had died, unsung, in 1944) What Americans considered as German secrets were based on Goddards' pioneering work!
Interesting that Russia had this techonology at before the end of the war... At that time only the germans had rocket airplanes in development, and it came to a totalt surprise to the allies when they found a real german jet airplane after the war.
Both the Russian and Americans had after the war a race in germany to secure/steal the german science projects and learn from them.. Alot of interesting technology were taken from Nazi germany and scientists helped with the apollo program.
@ali4330 Yeah,it's funny alright. The Germans were actually 1st in this sort of stuff, followed by the russians, followed by the Japanese, followed by the British. Watch Axis Weird Weapons.
@canamwing In that time period, yes Russia was probably the leading aviator of the world, but in more modern years, say, the last couple decades, america has definetly pulled ahead in terms of quality and technological advancement. Our active aircraft are probably the best in the world.
@wrylie188 America has numbers and system of support, but far from having airplane that is best in its flying parameters. Make some "digging" and you will see that flying parameters is what american planes, even modern planes like F35 or even F22 are lucking compare to Russian. In what US can be proud of is that it has more planes ready to go if it needs them. That's what Russia is not good at the moment.
the X-1 wasnt suppose to go into space hes speaking about aircraft that touch the edge of space. We never knew that droping an aircraft from a bomber it can go that high up 2 the edge of space the X-1 was a sound braking aircraft as you know.
3:35: the idea of dropping a research aircraft from a bomber didn't start in the US with X-15. The US had been dropping scale models from bombers for years, and even dropped the X-1 from a B-29...

Starlin must have been the dumbest fark ever, imagine to leap in tech if he had embarrassed his intellectuals instead of fearing them
