True: the one aspect of the "Van Helsing" game which the developers did a good job with, was with the audio & music. Good music & some creepy sound effects in the right places.
And, I remember the CastleVania reference, too: it was in a book, in a hidden library, I think in Castle Frankenstein.
After being bitten by a werewolf, he was cursed by lycanthropy for a while, when he did change into a werewolf, but he was cured, if I recall correctly.
Yeah: I remember the Belmont family reference! It was in one of the libraries you had to explore! I was laughing when I read that!
There is also a reference to the Stephen Somers 'Mummy' movies in this game.
Since Van Helsing was based on the live-action film, Konami did not have the rights to produce the game at the time, but I do see your point, though....
I find it funny that one of the newer games, Order of Ecclesia, also uses Glyphs for things. But in that game, it's revealed a number of them are from the power of Dracula.
There's also a new Belmont named Gabriel, but I don't know if that's a solid reference or anything.
I haven't played 'Order of Ecclesia' but I know it uses a 'Glyph System' for its gameplay.
Hmmm, it could be an inspiration taken from the 'Van Helsing' game (the CV developers would have to be aware of it), though the Castlevania (CV) series itself has tons of material of it's own to draw inspiration from.
The 'Gabriel Belmont' you're referring to is the main character in the upcoming 'Lords of Shadow.'
That CV game is brand new & unrelated to the older CV storyline.
This game had challenge even on easy it was tough to get through. Those demon owl things are no joke.

Once you learned how to shoot & dodge correctly, with the right weapons, those enemies weren't as bad as they first appeared to be.

@ReioStudio:
They never made a PC version.
'Van HelSing: The Video Game' was made for the PlayStation 2, the Xbox (original), GameBoy Advance, and for the Mobile Phone.

If this was produced by Konami, this could have easily worked as a Castlevania spinoff.
Hell, it even mentions the Belmont family in the game!

Damn, they ruined the movie. WTH are those skeleton things? Ah well... at least it looks marginally enjoyable.

Some would call it the 'curse of the movie games' syndrome.
Titles based on Hollywood films are often rushed to meet the box office deadline, and they take hits in their overall production quality.
Still, like playing this game, though.

'Van HelSing' was only made on the Xbox, Playstation 2, and an alternate version for the GameBoy Advance.
To get a copy of the PS2 version, try ebay or amazon.
