Aside from Xing being China and Drachma being Russia (not like it matters, Drachma doesn't do anything), none of them are that simple, especially not Ishval. The author has said it's partially inspired by the Ainu, indigenous people who lived on Hokkaido and were taken over and made part of Japan. Sounds pretty similar to me. Just because they live in a desert and have tan skin doesn't mean the Middle East is the only inspiration.

@Niyaru I'd hate to sound like a know it all. But yelling causes an increased flow of adrenaline, and thus sort of making your hits stronger than what they would be if you didn't yell. It's why fighting styles like karate for example, they shout while they attack.

So, it sort of applies to real life.

I would say the Ishvalans are more like the parallel of the Jews, who suffered persecutions for differences in beliefs (in fma's case their culture forbids the use of alchemy. It's not the cause of their massacre but because of that they could not defend as well as they could). Isvhal itself also resembles Jerusalem in that it is reinstated as a holy land at the end.

one of my favorite things about brotherhood is that it's not based in japan with the uniforms and it's hardly even based off of japan, even xing seems more chinese than anything it's unusual for an anime but it's original just like the rest of the show... but thats just me...

@demirocks645 My take is that Amestris is based off Western Europe, Like Germany or England. Xing is definitely more based on China if anything. Dracma seems more Russian to me (this is all IMO)

@scizorXX that's true. Drachma is Russian based because of the harsh weather and lifestyle. Amestris is European. Xing is Chinese. Xerxes is Ancient Greek. Ishval is Middle Eastern.

The funny thing is, if you look up the history, there was a Persian King named Xerxes who married a woman named Amestris. I love the connection. Even the names of the soldiers hold significance (The Hughes tank, the Mustang plane), Hiromu Arakawa put so much time and effort into everything it's remarkable.

@darthkarr Adding my belated 2-cents, the Japan-only Brotherhood games suggest that Aerugo (just google it) is based off Italy; and Arakawa has mentioned that Amestris was in part also based off England. I'd say the German factor is more related to the Nazi era (what with the genocides and King Bradley being a "Fuhrer" instead of a "Kaiser"), Amestris's ethnic diversity is probably based off nations like the US and Canada, which were less "white" than Europe during the early 20th century.

Finally found it. I love this theme. My favorite scene with this track is at the beginning of ep. 26 when Ed and Ling are going up against Envy's true form. The bloody environment and the fact that they are being clobbered by an insane monster makes it a tense fight, and this music certainly helps.
