  • I wish this was how science really worked.

  • This is why we can't believe in science! Giant scissors? Wake up, people! Theory of evolution is just that - a theory. Jesus is the only way!

  • Iron when mixed with powdered rust and Hydrogen Gas forms Copper.

  • those hands creep me out

  • Oh, and can I play with my iron filings with my aluminum powder?

  • @AliasUndercover Terrorist over here guys!

  • SCIENCE!!!

  • Is that scissors thing real or is this whole thing fake?

  • @ZengxDoWx Yes.

  • Some one seems to have recently escaped @7:35

  • Fukken science, how does it work?

  • Marvellous stuff. I frequently show the maths episode to my higher-level groups, to see how long it takes them to get the joke. Writer Peter Serafinowicz (the 'student', taking notes in his copybook) is a genius.

  • @TheKaryobin hey thats peters brother as the student

  • i wish there were more episodes of this show

  • Microgallons?! XD

  • This is such a bizarre show.

  • thumbs up if vsauce3 brought you here

  • Shame the universe does work this way, I want to make scissors appear in the sky...

  • I only got that it was a joke when he said "We have been using iron sinve the Stone Age"

  • "and here is a model of an iron molecule, and here is a model of a model of an iron molecule modeled in iron"

I am a model of a modern major general?

  • not sure if joke

    or educational

  • @Manfresca69 quite clearly satire

  • i want to be a science teacher, so i can show my class this.

  • They used AC DC because it's heavy metal

    XD

  • I want the painting of Iron de Havilland.

  • anyone else notice the handcuffs are never removed?

  • "Iron filing cabinet" \o/

  • i found this a little bit funny when i hear this @7:06 XD

  • Man! That was hilarious!! :D

  • noobs

  • When they demonstrated the uses of iron, I was particularly annoyed that they didn't show the importance of bumcivilian in the production of Psilence. Terrible shame. I've had my home lined with the stuff and it works wonders for keeping the noise down. Trouble is, it does have a tendency to burst into flame, or alternately water, at random. I'm living at a Church of Imhotep retreat while my home is dried/washed out.

  • Dr. Science never came up with anything this outrageous.

  • Seems legit.

  • I was rather clumsy and used to get the sulphric acid all over my work before I handed it in. I really blotted my copybook.

  • is this for real?

  • @LlamaLynn24 yes totally

  • @LlamaLynn24 someee some not. lol.

  • @LlamaLynn24 Didn't you watch it in primary school? It was repeated until well into the 90s.

  • 4:26 with audio transcribe " If a mother scientist john lennon"

  • I wondered why he was attaching the cables in a weird way - I only realise now; His hands where still Handcuffed

  • "and an enormous pair of scissors has appeared above the laboratory" lol

  • when i saw scissors it makes me feel stoned when im not

  • DID YOU SEE THAT!!!??? holy fuck that made me almost die

  • @MrExAl Haha that and the noise does it for me :L

  • brilliant

  • Watched this on Adult Swim's DVR theater :D

  • We are using AC/DC, because it is heavy metal.

    LAWL XD

  • @klopiy96 AC/DC was in fact considered heavy metal back in the 70's when they were the first people to perform that kind of music. back in the day, AC/DC was HEAVY, no doubt about it

  • I propose a name change for these video series: "Trollface Tackles Science"

  • I love how the handcuff is still on his wrist

  • Teachers! ; play this in class and troll your pupils

  • @IYukonI

Haha, my chemistry teacher way back when I was 15 used to play episodes of this before classes.

  • @PilmarKhinKari "Way back" when you were 15? LOL! ;-)

  • @micahnewman

lol, well, it was 10 years ago!

  • I burst out laughing at "We're working with ACDC, because it's heavy metal."

  • I couldnt hear this video at first. Then I realized I left some bumcivilian in my pocket from last night

  • The guy staring at the spoon is my maths teacher :)

  • This is extracirriculariffic!

  • thanks youtube. thoutube

  • LOL, the hands from 6:20-6:54.

  • was this series meant to be funny? because i saw the sulfur episode on adult swim and i thought this is hilarious, i feel i do learn some stuff but mostly it was made to make us laugh

  • @uchihasi can't tell if joking, what did you actually learn?

  • Did you see that !! XD

  • lol the pigs made me giggle

  • The iron filing cabinet is pure genius

  • Man, the Look Around You laboratory is rather creepy. A big white ball in the middle of a field.

  • Pour sulfuric acid on iron man... Noone will hear his screams.

  • probably only about ..5.05 micro gallons.

  • I knew Aperture Science is REAL :D

  • They're there in their room.

  • I think we just found Iron Mans weakness.

  • Fucking lost it at the scissors part

  • Is pig iron a reference to animal farm...?

  • @Rambuzzle no, pig iron is a real rype of iron

  • Bumcivilian.

  • Ah, old Moog tunes and synth stabs.

  • This seems as random as the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy

  • Ravenscroft pan!Almost as good as Besselheim plate.

  • 2:19 iron filing cabinet, niiiiice

  • youve probably played with iron fillings as a child counting a recounting them over and over

  • An enormous pair of scissors has appeared in the sky -

Its an old experiment that youve probably seen before

  • Yep, that's how I spend my Sundays, cleaning and polishing all my garden tools and anvil!

  • haha I totally knew it! he was going to pour flour on the flowers XD

  • Wait, why is he pouring flour on the flowers?

  • 18 people's parents didn't have horseshoes on their rearviews.

  • Thanks, Iron.

    Thiron.

  • @JamysKinry

    Thanks, James.

    Thames.

  • ..5.05 Mg

  • ..5.05 Mg huh

  • 7:43 wtf

  • Are those periodic tables available for purchase??

  • lol a pair of scissors

  • Can't believe they didn't mention the tactical uses of the "scissors" experiment during the Blitz, they once decimated a whole squadron of Heinkels with a giant pair of left-handeds

  • Wait...an iron 'molecule'?!

  • look around you periodic table leinweber.us/post/74240633/the-periodic-table-look-around-you-full-size

  • "we use AC/DC because it's heavy metal" HAR HAR!!

    Plugging a 9v into a wall....ohhhh baaaaaaad news!!!!

  • Ha! Best periodic table ever!

    Mz: Marzipan

    Mngm: Manganesium

    Hi: Hello

    I-Ca: Intelligent Calcium

    Wd: Wood

    Rd: Red

    Xm: Christmas

I'm sure there are tons more...

  • aw crap i remember watching this on work experience xD

  • I wonder what ever happened to my old iron filing collection... Brings back such fond memories.

  • This program is genius, the synthesizer sounds are done so well!

If you have a brain, you can appreciate this stuff!

  • My favorite thing about these "Look Around You" videos is that I can't pick 1 favorite moment of any video. In this one, I love "The bell is sounded, and the experiment can begin." and "..5.05 micro gallons" but they use "Mg" which is the scientific measurement for Mega Grams, LOL.

Also the giant scissors in the sky... lol there's just too many to choose from! These videos are so brilliant

  • Notice when working with the pyramid that the "scientist's" hands move as though still cuffed together. Then at 7:10 there's a sound of a saw in the background, and clinks, and after that the hands are shown with the handcuffs on but the chain has been cut. Only noticed that now, the umpteenth time I've watched this...

  • @micahnewman Hehe, you can also see the handcuffs on his wrist at 6:51 for *JUST* a split-second before they go out of frame again.

  • "An iron molecule"... ha ha ha!

  • what happens if the queen electron leaves the nest of the iron compound? is there any kind of Helvetica Scenario?

  • so factualy correct itd seem like complete nonsense to the untrained eye....

  • WTF 1000 degrees!? Thi is all screwed up!

  • WTF he connected ac 120 to 6v dc battery is this manual how to kill your self

  • Little known fact: if you replace the square-based pyramid with a pentagon-based pyramid, the sky scissors stay until the power is switched off.

  • i loved that building

  • i want a face shackle.

  • When i saw that pair of scissors i was just WAHT DA FUCK

  • I've noted an inaccuracy at 3:37. The notation for micro-gallons is not "Mg" as the video would suggest, but in fact the lowercase Greek "mu", followed by the abbreviation "gal". The rest of the program is, however, spot on.

  • I'm currently studying degree level chemistry. The iron pyramid experiment is actually quite amazing, it occurs as a result of iron's unique electron wavefunction, which interacts with the magnetic field causing a shift in the Diels-Alder quantum number to a value >=45,000,000,000, at which point the Higgs boson escapes through tunneling. This leaves the raw iron nucleus which is propelled skyward because of tigers.

  • @glointhadark Haha the best bit about your comment is that you obviously do know some degree-level chemistry :-D That or you just used Wikipedia.

  • @glointhadark "Diels-Alder quantum number"

    I think I love you c:

  • @glointhadark mate you must go to some shit uni. coz almost everything you said isnt even true

  • @amrizzlenyash thatsthejoke.jpg

  • Comment removed

  • @amrizzlenyash you must be some kind of genius

  • @glointhadark lolol higgs boson, id say it has more to do with the god particle

  • ..5.05 micro gallons lol

  • UBER SCISSORS!

  • Hehe, when he's performing expirement 2 he's still wearing the handcuffs

  • Brings back memories of highschool chemistry...ringing bells and screaming

  • 3.30 is Boards of Canada. I thought they were just referencing the same period but this is definitely an actual song of theirs. I just can't remember the title. I think it was off Campfire.

  • too funny!

  • The bell is rung so that the experiment can begin.

  • Lol... "We're working with ACDC because it's heavy metal" The scissors in the sky was hilarious too =P

  • 7:06

  • hey cunts how about you dont upvote spoilers?

  • @sk86566 how about you restrain yourself of reading the freaking comment section before watching the video?

  • "The bell is sounded, and the experiment can begin."

  • "did you see that?!?"

  • bumcivilian :o

  • @serialkissersband Look Around You is a British television comedy series devised and written by Robert Popper and Peter Serafinowicz, and, in the first series only, narrated by Nigel Lambert. The first series of eight 10-minute shorts was shown in 2002, and the second series of six 30-minute episodes in 2005, both on BBC2.

  • the face shackle!

  • @serialkissersband This is what they show in science classes in British schools, I remember watching this in Year 10.

  • we have been using iron since the stone age.

  • @serialkissersband no it's real

  • @serialkissersband yes. yes it is

  • It's a pretty common experiment.

  • this scientist is very sophisticated

  • Although a great amount of time and energy has been put into making this look like a real science video, the large amounts of wrong, misleading and dangerous information, makes this video completely inappropriate for school use by any teacher-even as a joke.

  • @FarFallen1 As far as I remember from my secondary school days, the whole point of these videos is for the pupils to apply their knowledge by working out which parts of the video are accurate and which parts are wrong. Using their results they carry out some basic experiments, the ones who get it all right get As. The ones who get it wrong get to go to the hospital. But that's all right, because in Britain there is the... NHS.

  • @DrPoon I've been looking around for it ;) but no luck so far unfortunately! I would love to know what it is as well, sounds gorgeous

  • I love how the scientist is carefully setting up the experiment with both hands, but you never see his wrists. Then the narrator is still explaining the ac/dc experiment when the scientist heads off, you hear strange saw blade sounds, and he comes back with the hand cuffs' chain broken. :D

  • i am doing science in school where can i get the details for the scissor experiment as i want to use it in my exam cheers.

  • It's funny cause iron wasn't used in the stone age. XD

  • The scissors scene is my favorite. Its so strange to see the dome where they conduct all the experiments, just sitting in a wheat field. Plus the floating scissors and the ambient music.

Also the scientist still has the handcuffs on except cut. hah

  • is this a joke?

  • @IronGuild no it is completely serious, look at the others in the series

  • @IronGuild Schools still use videos like this because now the DVD has been invented, science videos are no longer made.

  • Iron has been used since the stone age.

  • We're working with AC/DC because it's heavy metal! LOL!

  • Could anyone please tell me the music at 7:44???

I love ambient and that sound is amazing.

  • @DrPoon

I read somewhere that the two comedians composed all the music themselves. They are definitely replicating the BBC Radiophonic Workshop sound of these early 80s educational videos, both directly and by channeling recent bands referencing the same period - such as Boards of Canada and the bands on the Ghost Box Music label

  • @UrbanBeast55 hee hee! Only stumbled upon this by accident earlier today - was fun filming it. The scene I was in took about 15 mins to film. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • first, an expiriment was caried out to determine the number of people who forgot the like button exists...

  • these experments really work

  • Iron de Havilland.

  • This is the best one. By far. ^_^

    DID YOU SEE THAT???

  • we're working with ac/dc because it's heavy metal.

  • 5:11 hippies ...

  • jesus crist, that one kid is a fatass

  • Yet another episode of this program

  • An enormous pair of scissors has appeared directly above the laboratory.

  • This, is... the best damn science lesson IN THE WORLD!

  • iron filing cabinet... oh man i JUST got that joke and i've seen this episode a dozen times at least.

  • bumcivillian.

    lol

  • Glad to see they used ..5.05 Mg not .5..05, that would have been a mighty explosion xD

  • "The cheapest form of iron available is pig iron. It is called pig iron because it is made by pigs."
