Not the A320, nor any other type of commercial Boeing and Airbus aircraft. Modern Auto Pilots and Flight Management computers can only do what the pilots insert. the pilots didnt push the "go around" buttons on the throttles.....so plane stayed in the landing config. The airbus has a auto throttle system that when engaged will hold a speed. regardless if the pilots moves the throttles. that needs to be disengaged before thrust will change. Unfortunate

This actually was a test flight of airbus to test the onboard fly-by-wire system. The idea of this maneuvre was that the plane would make a fly-by. The computer however tried to land the plane which caused this silly crash.
Airbus removed this system after this crash so I highly doubt that it killed 136 people.

I read a New York Times article on their website published in 1988 which says 130 passengers were on board, plus the crew. Not sure why they put passengers on board for an airshow, but I'm just a youtube user.

@SG55OVCam you are not an aviation historian very obviously. Because you would know that commercial aircraft are not capable to fly unmanned. Not the A320, nor any other type of commercial Boeing and Airbus aircraft. Modern Auto Pilots and Flight Management computers can only do what the pilots insert. And they can not perform a take off automatically. Also, Air France Flight 296 was loaded with 136 passengers and a cockpit and cabin crew, as usual.

the pilots didnt push the "go around" buttons on the throttles.....so plane stayed in the landing config. The airbus has a auto throttle system that when engaged will hold a speed. regardless if the pilots moves the throttles. that needs to be disengaged before thrust will change. Unfortunate

This actually was a test flight of airbus to test the onboard fly-by-wire system. The idea of this maneuvre was that the plane would make a fly-by. The computer however tried to land the plane which caused this silly crash.
Airbus removed this system after this crash so I highly doubt that it killed 136 people.

I read a New York Times article on their website published in 1988 which says 130 passengers were on board, plus the crew. Not sure why they put passengers on board for an airshow, but I'm just a youtube user.
