Saw them in 1977 at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts...........Played some of this album, but mostly Raindances..........Great!......love all the early stuff especially!
@x0AuG0x You're not alone ;) ... Found out about a lot of the 70's prog band from Mikaels radioshow on swedish national radio where he goes through his vinyl collection.... So glad I found out about music like this!
@x0AuG0x I did too. Mikael is a mega fan, and I usually enjoy the music he recommends (found Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson via Opeth as well). So I gave Camel a shot. And loved 'em. I can definitely hear a huge Camel influence in Opeth's music. It's a shame because a lot of their more metal audience won't check out a 70s prog band. Progressive metal can be a good gateway drug, if you will, into straight up classic prog rock. It worked for me!
It is awesome that you are getting Camel's music out there for all to hear! I almost abandoned rock about five years ago after I heard so much of the same stuff for 24 years until I first heard Camel. It took 23 years for my dad to turn me on to this. Two decades wasted.
i bought this album (moon madness) when it came out. camel should've gotten more airplay but they didnt. i also have mirage, i can see your house from here, dust and dreams, and breathless. moon madness is their best in my opinion.
essence of the romantic, horror and wonder of being human -- being from the clouded rain forest... can relate to the cloudy bipolar, the full moon wolf hunt for joy -- prescience ...? what happens to the human mood if a cloud of climate change takes the sky in more and more of our niche?
This is awesome! I was just going through my old albums (yes, vinyl) stored for over 20 years and found this hidden treasure. Really glad I found it on Youtube 'cuz I don't think my record player works anymore. I used to play this all the time back in the day. Thanks for posting.
Saw camel in the seventies in lower regent street playing cant remember venue maybe some one can tell the venue matthewlaming@hotmail.com but wow amazing the tightest band i have heard and one of my Fav Bands of all time .
Just heard one of Camel's songs a few nights ago... And they're one of the greatest, most unique rock bands I've ever heard. They're like an Arabian version of Pink Floyd!
Glad to see you putting out Camel songs for the world to hear. I just posted "Fingertips" on Facebook and four friends immediately liked it, 3 ladies and a gent. I'm glad your store is open again. I like buying Camel music and t-shirts. I have all studio albums plus some CDs and DVDs. Had a great time hearing you in California at the Coach House and Belly Up. Best wishes and health to you, Susan, family, and friends. Jeff
From the Year 1977 that i've listened to Camel's music and specially Andy's sound and style,i have not listened to anything else that could give me the kind of feeling that someone gets by listening to their music.
This is one of their greatest albums ! along side stationary traveler ? 1976 was an amazing year for rock ! rush 2112 and the classic al stewart year of the cat ! amoung many .. superb bands !!!
Well, in my opinion, the albums from Dust and Dreams up until A Nod and a Wink are better. Also, give Nude and The Snow Goose a listen. Mirage is well worth a listen as well.
In a word: No. This is it if you're looking for Camel's best Album, but All the others are all very worthy too with some individually outstanding tracks to look out for, especially... "Echoes", "Summer Lightning" (Breathless), a few on "Rain Dances" too, to name one or two...
@Semenofthefall The first is my favorite.... but it seems every camel fan has there own taste on the subject. although, We do all generally agree that the early works are the best!
@Semenofthefall My favourites are: Camel, Mirage, Snow Goose, Moonmadness, Harbour Of Tears, Rajaz and A Nod And A Wink, are those I can play from beginning to end, the rest are just good, some better than others but I would only note those albums...
yes. Mirage (1974)

The word 'Anthem' is horribly trivialised these days but the lead theme on this is massively evocative of all that was good in music around this time.
Camel - You made my life just a tiny bit richer. Thanks guys.
Latimer thanks for reminding me I need to buy a good quality CD of this album (and Snow Goose too).
